No wonder Apple are as tight lipped as they are. They say there's an issue with signal strength, they're called liars. They investigate issues, and don't say anything until they know what there is to say, people scream that they're ignoring the issue. They announce a press conference, people have already decided that whatever it is that they plan to say is a slap in the face, despite not even knowing what they will say.

They see a market they're not in that has a massive profit margin (cases), people say it's a conspiracy and that it must be to cover up a mistake.

Seriously, just wait and see what they're going to say at this press conference before you write it all off. Believe it or not, but the engineers who work on these things might just know a little more about it than you.

Apple sells iPad covers also.

So, using the existence of iPhone bumpers as evidence that they knew of a flaw is itself a flawed notion.

Or wait! maybe they knew of this issue, and came up with the idea of bumpers. But then thought that might be too suspicious, so they made iPad cases also just to cover their tracks?!

Usually, I am against conspiracy theories, but on this case too manny "coincidences" happen. The drama unfolds with Google's attempt on it's droids. Then Jobs realizes in horror that iphone is in trouble, then he decides to make THE most advanced gadget, iphone 4 which is leaps ahead the competition. Then, someone dumb loses the gadget in a bar by mistake... Then police, then the antenna... Then Jobs says it's software....
The facts are the phone simply got tremendous publicity, way more than it would if everything were running smooth. Imagine what would happen with all that steam buildup, when later today we learn that iphone4 just needs a s/w fix... Unbelievable sales...

If the iPod touch had all the same cool features as the iPone 4 I would ditch this stupid thing in a heartbeat. I'm tempted to try it with a myfi

Careful. I asked if anyone had done this using skype on a similar thread about a week ago. The moderators deleted my post. I honestly don't understand why.

You naysayers are amazing.

Apple will provide a solid fix...and it's killing you.
And when that happens, will you return and say you were wrong?

Bye bye.

I think. And quote me tomorrow if I'm wrong. But Jobs is going to get on stage and announce the iGlove4. It's simple. You just wear these gloves on your hand whenever your ready to use your phone and take them off when your done. Simple right. And they are gonna be FREE. The bumpers cost more to make than the iGlove4 so they went that route. Now everyone can goto sleep with no worries of software fix, recall or Apple shutting down and be at peace!

Haven't there been problems with Iphone connections from the beginning? There was even a study that said that 1/3 of Iphone owners carried another phone to actually communicate (make calls and text messages)... Maybe it wasn't (just) the bad ATT network after all but faulty Iphone software.

That's what I was saying. They have been fighting this thing for at least 3 years. I think what is apparent now is that the iPhone in any material has problems with it's reception. And, if this bug has been around for a long time then they would almost certainly have put a new form factor with a radical antenna design under rigorous communication testing. I doubt that they would all of a sudden forget about that pesky bug that has been a black eye for the iPhone since it's launch.

Something smells funny, not sure what yet.

Why do you assume that Steve Jobs will be at the press conference?

Don't worry, I know.

However, what I've seen reported for the most part has been a bunch of news about bars. How many people are actually losing service?

I don't take any corporate explanation at face value. But then again, I don't take the reported rumors that way either, in case you didn't know.

I could turn around and say anyone accepting the reported rumors at face value is a shill for an Apple competitor...

You have Apple shill written all over your replies. Asking whether people have actually lost their signal. Yes, lots of people have lost calls and signals because of this problem, did you somehow not see the dozens of YouTube videos demonstrating how the signal degrades at a mere touch of the spot? If I hold the phone naked on my house I have absolutely no signal.

Again, your suggesting that somehow this software explanation is credible, but you seem oblivious to the fact that it's purely a leaked response to Bloomberg's report this morning, and Apple has already used the "it's just a software problem" excuse once.

And also if someone could share with me the number to the jackass from the NY Times so I can tip him on this and say I'm a reliable but anonymous individual. That would be great! Thanks

The irony is so thick. Apple has offered us nothing but denials, excuses, and new excuses, and yet you're acting like they've already fixed the problem.

Why don't you wait til they've actually fixed this problem before you take your fanboy "victory" lap? Oh I forgot, because you're ready to believe anything you hear as long as it's suggesting this problem can be fixed.

In case you didn't know, sources for sensitive information tend to be anonymous. That's how investigative journalism works. Obviously Bloomberg had a source they felt was very credible, or they wouldn't have reported what they did this.

Bloomberg is the same news agency that keeps constantly reporting the Verizon rumor with multiple launch date targets that have now passed. They're a second tier financial news network and should be treated as such.

I really want this whole signal issue to go away so I never have to read a variation on this lame joke ever again.

Yeah we've only had to hear the verizon crap from Doomburg for the last 2 or 3 years. They just wanna make sure and say it all the time because if/when it goes to Verizon, they can be the first ones to have known about it lol WTF

Why am I almost more excited for this press conference tomorrow than I was about the WWDC conference? Thank you Apple for making me so pathetic! :D

I can see it now, Jobs will come out on stage:

"iPhone 4 is so advanced that we've completely eliminated the problem of dropped calls. In the event of such a thing, the iPhone 4 can now synthesize both a synthetic voice and a matching AI to continue the conversation for the person you were just talking to. Meanwhile, the phone will ring back the dropped number and by the time the real person comes back you may be just as happy to go on talking with the synthetic-AI version of your friend. This is really something. It's magical."

With all the reported issues and non issues over the last 3 weeks there can be only one new rumor to start.
The manufacturing plant has been infiltrated by smartphone software and/or handset makers. The manufacturing processes have been tampered with and compromised by planted enemy employees.
Explains the recent suicides, extreme intrigue and inconsistent reported problems with the iPhone 4;)
