It seems like signal drops on my 3GS only when in Edge mode. With 3G on, I can do all the cupping and gripping, but no problemamo.

I even made a terrible video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-IV3diWrnY

The Camera, Kodak EasyShare Z612 can't stay in focus, and when zooming, it makes terrible noises, and my air conditioner was on, so kinda annoying. The camera's video quality also sucks too. Sorry.

Wow and to think all the fuss about IPhone I new I made the right choice with my HTC EVO4G. Must have case inorder to have signal strength inorder to make a call......YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS AT&T strikes again. Can't help but laugh yellowish on screen the so called best RETNA display how great is the iPhone 4 now?? HTC EVO POWER#1 in the smartphone industry.

How long will the trolls be out? Sometimes I question why I even care for technology and tech related websites.

wow, you're really trying to sell it to us huh :D

I did the test myself. But the problem could be something different (and not as bad). It's true that the bars drop when you INITIALLY just turned the phone on from sleep. If you hold the edges just as the phone turns on from sleep, the bars would drop dramatically. But If you keep the phone on for a while like 30 sec, then try to touch the edges again, the bars will NOT drop, it doesn't change at all. So it could be a couple things going on that's affecting the bar dropping and it may not be as bad and possibly can be fixed with a software patch.

Also with even one bar, I still had very fast internet browsing...the number of bars may be deceiving.

How long do you guys think this will take to be fixed (if it's a hardware issue / if it's a software issue)? I'm going on holidays for 3 weeks, so I wouldn't be able to use my new iPhone anyway, so I might just wait for 3/4 weeks. Is it very likely to be fixed by then, do you think? :)

Option A: Buy now, risk having an affected iPhone 4. Go on holiday and get it replaced after / update to new software in case it was a software issue.

Option B: Buy later (after holidays) and risk not getting one straight away because of stock issues (will there still be low stock in a month?)

Wow. I thought Jobs couldn't have gotten any more arrogant, but once again he surprises me! I wonder how many people other than myself have ran away from the iphone "eco-system" into the transparent (at least) evil of Google/Android. Must only be the iSheep left to graze by now I would have thought.

This is certainly a WTF moment.

It is clear now Gray Powell didn't lose his iPhone 4, he threw the piece of **** away & went back to 3G. I hope Steve Jobs slips on acid. -- via @dimlylitcube

Could it be fake?
Did he post headers?

Granted, however, since Engadget posted them, I assume they've been checked. It'd be pretty bad for Engadget, if they this turned out to be false.

Just wondering, why is there a double full-stop?

I would never get an Android phone, simply because I have tried them and their eco-system is incredibly poor when compared to the iPhone's, not to mention the fact that 1 out of every 5 apps runs commands not allowed by the user with harming potential.

However, I don't know about buying the iPhone now. This response from Jobs totally made me WTF. I can't really see him say that, specially when we're talking about something that can potentially stop you from holding the phone in your left hand and touch the screen with your right one.

If it hadn't been confirmed, I'd call BS on this one. I totally would.

Me: Got my Shiny New iPhone, from the shiny toy maker. :)

Me: Can't use my hands to hold the phone.

Apple: You can spend $30 to buy a case that fixes the problem.

Me: Urrr, yeah :(

Me: takes device back for a refund to get android smart phone on a better network :D

Non Issue

So a guy goes to the doctor, lifts his arm over his head and says it hurts when he does that. So the doctor says, don't do that.

I always that was a joke until now.

Oops, I see other people on the other thread beat me to this.

This isn't a fake guys.

This is what this nonsense has devolved into. Unbelievable arrogance.

Tell you what, I'll do you one better Jobs, I'm definitely not buying now.

And you'll never buy one.
Tell the truth.

I just expect you to relentlessly post here when Apple actually acknowledge this flaw and say a thing.

So stop hoping to discourage people into buying one.

Great for Android that the Evo and X have just been released, and Apple's walled garden now includes directions on the right and wrong ways to hold an Apple phone.

Apple tells you how to hold your phone? They're making a handheld phone that you can't hold in your hand? Class action....

Will you post the e-mail or it was thru your Drone, er. Droid?

I can't help but think this issue has been spun into a frenzy, partly by rabid Apple haters.

Today I visted an AT&T store and tried my best to replicate this issue. I gripped it in my left hand, covered all sides, even placed my fingers over all three seams and waited for a good twenty seconds. 5 bars.

I tried the same with my BlackBerry Curve 8330 on Verizon and it dropped from 4 bars to 3.

Just my experience. If this really is a big issue (like the iMac flickering problem), Apple will respond with a fix or happily refund your money.

My short time trying out an iPhone 4 was overwhelmingly positive. It's a real shame if this issue is ruining the experience with others. That's what Apple products are all about, right? Experience.
