There's no way around it the antenna part of the phone does suck, but benefits IMO do out weigh the flaws. I hate the feel of a bumper so I conscious ly try to avoid holding it wrong, however I can't wait until the i5 hits the market without this flaw.

This "outcry" that you speak of here has been overblown by both the media, and people trolling on the blogs, and message boards, when they know darn well they never even used the iPhone 4. ;)

And the one you responded to is one of those who doesn’t own one. He writes the same thing in every thread he can, so best just to ignore him.

1) It's Apple and there are iHaters aplenty.
2) The iP4 has been given bad rep by the media so it's the "cool thing" to diss on it.
3) Fanboys.

Hey, if people want to spend their energy and time hating, let 'em. While they do that, I'll be THOROUGHLY enjoying my iPhone 4.

Sounds like people are not liking the phone

Everyone I know who has one absolutely loves it.

I've noticed in these forums and especially in Engadget's comments section (too unbearable to read nowadays... I feel my brain start to melt almost instantly), the people who "hate" the most are mostly vehement android users.

Engadget is so full of these unbearable FanDroids its sad. Any mention of the word iPhone will get you down ranked. Antenna jokes occur on almost every article. The Apple vs. Google debate happens on every article - even where its irrelevant. Every new android phone is called an iPhone killer - funny because no single android phone will ever outsell the iPhone. A few times Engadget linked to MR and sadly a few of these roaches started swarming the forums.

I know I love it. My first one was bad as far as reception, no data at times, as well as poor call quality. However, my second one is absolutely perfect, with no issues to speak of. The display is awesome! :)

Not posted anything about my iphone4 before, but thought I would add to this post. I queued up for mine on the GB release day, got it and thought fantastic. I have to say, as an internet device, camera, video, email tool it is excellent, perhaps not the revolution it was pinned as, but then it pretty much does what a jailbroken 3GS does - but faster!!

However, as a phone it is probably the worst phone I have owned in ten years, this is MY opinion! The problems for me are

1) The antenna - believe it or not, but for me, I do lose signal and do drop calls. I am left handed and do not see why I should have to adapt the way I hold a mobile phone after 10 years of using one - it is now 2010, I got my first phone in 1999 - progress should go forwards not backwards.

2) Proximity sensor - An equally big annoyance -one minute I am talking, the next I am on loud speaker, then suddenly I am trying to call someone else, or I have hung up. At first I didnt know this was such a global problem - but have since heard about it being quite widespread - probably better than my initial thought - that my left ear was possessed.

3) Phone freeze - sometimes my screen goes black and that is it, home bottom - does nothing, power on/off does nothing. Then 1 minute later all is good....

I don't hate my iphone4 device, but I do hate my iphone4 phone. I didn't hate my iphone3GS.

I have wondered for sometime if apple are heading the way of all companies that lived on the edge for a while and then move into the limelight, my 2003 powerbook was AWESOME my 2009 macbook pro is just good.

bcburrows, it sounds like you just got a bad device there, and should get it exchanged. My first iP4 was bad too, but the one I have now is perfect.

So did you return it? If it's the worst phone you've owned in ten year, then what you had before was clearly better and you should go back to it.

It's like the Yankees. When you're the best, you get a lot of **** for destroying the competition.

you could have said the red sox and i would have understood the statement a lot better lol...but yeah people hate something they cant have...it's their way of dealing with it

It's actually really funny, the haters are.

Go look at any YouTube video about anything iPhone related and I can almost guarantee you the two "top-rated comments" will be hatred towards the iP4; "Who would shell out $300 for that piece of crap??," "Steve Jobs can suck my..." just to name a few.

I got mine just yesterday and have had NO problems with it. The first thing I did out of the box (At the Apple Store I might add) was to see if I could replicate the "AntennaGate" issues with no avail. Proximity sensors work just fine for me, as does the screen, the battery life, and almost everything else about the phone. All-in-all, this is hands down the best phone I have ever owned.

I'm really not sure why many are so frustrated. I've had mostly great experiences with my iPhone 4.

The screen is awesome, the battery lasts a lot longer than my 3G model, the exterior design is beautiful and performance is up in all categories. The new camera is so much better than previous models. I love the touch to focus/expose feature and the 720p video is very handy. I don't own a dedicated video camera so it's my only way to capture decent video clips.

Maybe some people are expecting so much that they're impossible to please. I don't know.

I don't know why people care about the opinions of a bunch of anonymous message board people. If the phone works for you, great. If it doesn't, find one that does.

I think it's jealousy to be honest. Many simply cannot afford an iPhone. The quoted $199 price is just to make people think that iPhones are cheap. In reality, over 2 years, you are paying around $2000 for what is, at the end of the day, a mobile phone. It is very expensive for what it is.
