Everytime I try and check my order status on apple.com I get this error message:

"Can't connect to application instance"

My email says it will ship on the 24th... hopefully that stays. Can't believe Apple is already having to delay shipments!

Same thing for me. We will have to stay tuned and see what that's all about.

Like i said in my earlier post i started a 12am finally got through to att at 5am never got confirmation email, credit card charge....nothin,been on and off with att all day can't find my order or even if it went through so i went ahead and finally got through on apple and ordered, was through in 2 mins on the camino browser ships by 24ththis was around 9pm,told att i wanted to cancel, still couldn't find order, told me to keep both orders open and if att order showed up to then cancel.Still haven't got apple email confirmation but it sounds like it's taking awhile to get one

ummm....I got my pre-order in @ 7:41pm pst and already got my confirmation as well for a ship date of june 24th. So dont believe the hype

Not only were they smart of enough not to advertise their pre-order online to avoid massive ordering issues like AT&T and Apple Store had, they also made the White iPhone model available. They also set up pick-up time appointments for customers on the launch day. They learned well from the HTC EVO launch appearently. Kudos to Best Buy for their excellent service today.
Wait until all those people that show up on the 24th find out that their white iPhones aren't there, because Best Buy allowed preorders for a phone that isn't available yet. That should be fun.

Best Buy - not "smart." :p

Just ordered 5 phones using same phone number clicking upgrade on apple. It let me upgrade each time for both 16g and 32g and I already received email confirming the 24th. Weird that it let me get upgrade With discounted price 5x

I got Mine!

I also was having problems all day long to pre-order my iPhone 4. Just recently got a confirmation saying that I should have the beast on the 24th!
(Ordered using apple store)

Completed at roughly 9 PM Central (Apple website). Pretty sure it said the 24th for the iPhone 4, and July-something for the dock accessory.

No confirmation email yet and I also can't get to the Order Status page.

$1 pre-auth on my credit card also, no full charge quite yet.

Edit: Email confirm came at about 11 PM Central (2 hours later). June 24th.

I was actually able to log into the Apple store website, but when I click Order Status it gives me this message

"Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store
Apple's Online and phone Order Status services are temporarily unavailable due to a scheduled upgrade to our systems.

We apologize for any inconvenience."

Interesting Experience with AT&T Site

I tried ordering 3 times in the early morning hours. Each time the order went through fine but I received an email a few minutes later saying the information I provided could not be verified and the order was canceled.

I gave up.

Today, I tried ordering on Apple's site and got the message I wasn't eligible for an upgrade.

I checked my AT&T eligibility page and sure enough my eligibility had been pushed back to Feb of 2012!

Then, on a lark I checked for orders under that number. And lo and behold! And order for an iPhone 4 is pending! The order number is different from the 3 that were canceled. I never got a confirmation email.

It sure seems like someone manually went in and did me a huge favor.

Behind the institutional mess, there are some very talented and dedicated individuals.

Waiting, not necessarily by choice

In U.S. If you're preordering for delivery to you, don't plan on traveling as it only ships to your addy on your at&t bill.

Just because the Apple site let you do doesn't mean it was a good idea to do so. If you're lucky all but one order will be cancelled. If not so lucky all will be cancelled and no phone for you on the 24th.

Yeah I heard about that. That's a big Fail.

After trying all day they better let me keep 1! I kept ordering to get one thru.

Fingers crossed...

Very strange....why is apple.com letting me order numerous iphone 4's at the discounted price???

I havnt processed the order yet, just tried to see if it would let me. Looks like it will. I already have one confirmed so I dont think im gonna risk it....your input?

Not what I wanted, but...

After receiving a message on Apple website that my FamilyTalk Plan couldn't be completed online and I would need to visit a store, I then tried AT & T site.

On AT & T, when I attempted to transfer existing verizon #s, I kept receiving a message, "cannot complete eligibility check". In talking to different AT & T reps, some said the eligibility check was down, and others said that number transfers can't be requested on pre-orders. Regardless of the reason, all said that I should request new #s when placing order, and then call to port my existing #s when I receive the phones and am activating, so that is what I did.

My order went through easy when I gave up on the transfer existing # option. I just hope that the port is as easy to do as they state, and that it doesn't cause any synch issues when connecting to iTunes the first time after activation. Anybody else have any experience with porting an existing after getting a new # initially?

Good for you, but I think I've got you beat.

* AT&T waived the $18 activation fee for me
* I'm getting unlimited text messaging for $5
* Apple is selling me AppleCare for $29.95
* The local Apple store manager is giving me a free Icon Bluetooth, and
* Steve Jobs is taking me to lunch

Bet you can't top that.

4 extra phones beats all that! nice try. I doubt they actually show up at my door but if they do I will make some extra $$$

It let me order over and over with email confirmations. I'm sure they will catch it later and leave me with first order

Well guess i am screwed for now. Called AT&T and they don't have a record of my order.

Guess I should go ahead and order for a July 2nd delivery date.

Figures, I dropped iPhone 3G two days ago and shattered the glass. The Irony is hysterical!

No White Phones in the US

I'll avoid the obvious racial joke here....
Quick recap of the day: June 15, 1am, following a stream of UK Twitterati, I learned that the Apple Store was going to go up in 2 min-- and my UK friends were right. I spent the next hour trying to get in a pre-order. Yes, me and 1 billion folks in four other countries and various time zones. I'll not question the wisdom of launching five countries at once except to say that it wasn't..... wise.

At 2am I go to bed- after all, I work full-time in order to pay for things like... iPhones. Daughter rose at 6:30am to attempt order. We all hang at the AT & T ping. 7am I drag myself out of bed and make one last attempt before work. Nada.
At noon, after attempts via the AT & T site, the Apple Store App and the Apple Chat line, my daughter finally gets through, to find out that she is not eligible for the discounted phone. Her previous phone stopped working; she bought a 3G (not even 3GS) in March as a "temp" phone to get her to the 4th...so they declare her ineligible. AND the features on the new OS4 software being released will not work on the 3G. She is double-ticked. She contacts AT & T Cust Svc. Nada. She elevates her contact to AT & T Corporate offices. I think she has a legitimate request for an exception- let alone the fact that we have been 12 year customers of AT & T/Cingular. They have enough of my money to comp us this once.

4pm- randomly I try to get on at work. I get farther on this attempt but, after 35 min of "processing" I bow out. My work server is run on a "quad core," of four hamsters and four wheels. Other attempts simply result in error messages. I'm feeling a lot of hate toward AT & T and I'm not terribly happy with Apple right now, either. Is a new phone really worth all of this?

8:30pm, almost hesitantly, I attempt a pre-order. Oh, look- the delivery date is now sometime after July 2. I again re-think the order. I get to the phone choice and seriously vacillate between the 16 and 32. I realized I currently have a 32 3GS and won't downsize. Then the data plans, then the Apple Care protection (don't ever buy ANYTHING without it),and my total is nearing "half a G." Used an Apple credit I'd saved to bring it down a bit, but still swallowed hard.

All this pain and I have to pay, too? It's the first time I ever questioned my purchase. Ever. Maybe a few of you hit this same point at some time today. Maybe it's fatigue; my net sleeping hours were four from last night. Several hundred dollars and I won't even get the chance to be "first." Does the 3GS still work? Yes- very well. My daughter may end up with it unless we find a really nice human being at the AT & T corp level. But, this kind of experience makes the CDMA version (I'm told it will release at the end of this year) and another carrier (Verizon) pretty attractive.

It's one thing to stage a major world wide event-- it's quite another to actually pull it off. Apple and AT & T failed in the latter and it's left a very bad taste in the mouths of many.
