iPhone 4 Sold Out for Launch Day at AT&T and At Least Parts of Europe

Success through Apple.com
Well after trying since 4am...apple.com went through for me without a hitch. It's 10:30pm Eastern Time. It even went through twice for me as I needed 2 iphones. But I didn't hit submit as I had already gone to Best Buy to reserve them. I was #8 on their list and I went as late as 3pm. Remember that article that said at least 45 per store? no problem where I'm living.
I also had to drop $50 deposit through them to get it reserved. I also figure, "well if ATT crashed on the preorder through the net, I figure I'll see if Best buy has a better chance of actually activating the phone in the store...and if they fail, I can at least then take it home with me to try through iTunes."
It's kinda weird, they said they will call me Wednesday June 23rd to schedule an appointment for me to come in and pick up the phone. Great if it works out.

so in all the mess of today between Apple and At&t websites.... I have 2 iPhone 4 32GB Black phones pre-ordered. One from Apple and one from At&t. So Wednesday as soon as I can confirm with apple over the phone that my order is in and I will get delivery on the 24th.... I will then call At&t and cancel my order from them.... BTW, i've had At&t for years and have had all iPhones at launch. This year they wanted me to pay full retail pricing! So, I just set up as a new customer with a new number for the $299 price. As soon as I get the iPhone 4 up and running I will be canceling my old line of service and pay the $120 early termination fee.... still saving me more than $250 bucks!

Tried about a minute ago, fast processing all the way to the check out then got an Oops. Tried it again right away, really fast to the processing screen and was able to check out just fine. Seems like they got it fixed? The shipping date still showing June 24th.

Anyone with a black iPhone 4 is going to be stereotyped as impatient and

Now granted I am impatient, however I ordered my 32GB black iPhone 4 today, but my dad is upgrading in about a month and is getting a white 32GB and said we can trade cause he wants black.

Anyone able to get anywhere with safari on the iPhone? It won't get passed the part where you select replace a phone or new line. Just stays on the same page showing the spinning wheel for a few seconds then the wheel disappears leaving you at the same page.
I tried with Opera and it will get to the next page to enter your AT&T info (number, zip, and SS#) but just sits at getting info from AT&T with no progress wheel or anything.
The apple store app just says it can't connect to the AT&T server after the same amount of time every time leading me to believe it's not even attempting to connect and is a waste of time.

Weird Apple glitch
Ok so I'm consistently able to get through Apple.com. I am not placing the preorder as I already have one with best buy.
But of note is that one time it went through and when the iphone is in the cart, it says ship date is July 2nd. I cancelled it, did the process again, and this time it said June 24th. Did it again and it's back to July 2nd. Inconsistent. I wonder if I actually pressed process for the June 24th date if it would literally ship earlier...heh

I just ordered 2 new iphone 4's for my wife and I. I have been going crazy all day but for some reason it finally worked. I took screen shots and print up receipts just in case I have to go ape S+%t on ATT when I dont get them on Kune 24th.

placed my order on AT&T's site around 6pm EST after trying alllll day. 5 hours later and still no hold on my CC or confirmation email, went to Apple, got right through, used different card and placed order within 30 seconds. Just gonna cal and cancel the AT&T order once i get the hold on my other CC.
So I got my order to go through earlier today through AT&T (around 3:30 EST). The order status is showing it in the Processing phase and I got my confirmation e-mail. That said, it was only about an hour before the reported cutoff time when AT&T ran through their pre-order supply.
My question is this....I was only eligible for the early upgrade pricing ($499 for the 32GB model). When I run through Apple's website now I am still showing the $499 pricing. This kind of worries me that it isn't showing the full retail price on Apple's side, as in something could be wrong with my AT&T order (I am Premier, so it is too late to call them to verify everything is all set) Should I go ahead and place the order through Apple and then cancel one or the other depending on what I find tomorrow?

I finally got my order in around 5:20pm CDT. I had been trying on and off since 9am this morning. Glad I made the cut for the 24th. I would have been disappointed severely if I had the July 2 message. Got a confirmation email around 7:40pm.
What a mess of a day and order system. Congrats to Apple for making a product that brought ATT servers to its knees in what they said was the biggest ordering day ever.

Just got confirmation from AT&T
So after probably 200 attempts today at both ATT.com and Apple.com, I said the hell with it and went to the only AT&T store in town on my way home from work... Pre-order in person went pretty smoothly, my order was placed around 6 PM EST. Just got the confirmation email at 10:30 PM EST. It does mention that there is a chance some customers will receive their's June 25th-28th. I have a funny feeling I will be one of those unlucky people. Not a super huge deal, I just wanted to make sure I'd be in the first batch of phones and not have to wait weeks for the next shipment.
The AT&T store, which is usually a ghost town, was bumping at 6 PM, and every single person that was there when I was was there to pre-order the iPhone. I assumed interest in this model would not be that great, as iPhone saturation in Charlottesville is pretty high but that was not the case...
Good luck to those of you who are trying first-come, first-served options at Apple Stores... I think it's going to be a madhouse if my observations at the AT&T store were any indication.

after 9+ hours, i managed to order one through apple. haven't seen an initial confirmation. Although i did go back online and change the ship to name. i got a confirmation email on that change. i also did talk to someone at apple who saw my order. i feel confident they have mine... sort of.
Officially time to give up.
I'll just go stand in line on 6.24 and see what happens.
AT&T's starting to get on my last nerve
I was trying since 6:30am to order from the apple store online, I finally got through around 5:30, just got my confirmation e-mail a couple hours ago =) Looks like I'll be a lucky one with the iPhone 4 on launch day!
Same here. Apple store seems to working fine now. At least it remembers your shopping cart if it craps out before confirming your order.
How long do you think apple stores will be sold out of phones for?
As Fuster Cluck: The Pre-Order Edition winds down, I have to say it provided quite a bit of entertainment. I think Fuster Cluck II: The Activation Edition will be even better.
FTW! That scary cause it's so true. I only hope Apple has learned something from this and truly comes prepared.
You to! I made my pre-order around 9:15AM MST/11:15 EST and I barely got my email just around 6:00PM MST/ 8:00 PM EST. I am just glad that it says it will deliver on 24th and besides it already charged my credit card so I better get it LOL
