BTW - on the Apple Skull, is there any way the leaf could be outlined in white like the skull? The leaf kinda gets lost on the wood background...

Because I just don't want to get involved in the whole barrage of VZW discussions...

Played around a bit. Mind you, I'm a rank amateur compared with most other PS folks on the forum.

Thanks, much appreciated!

How does one do this?!? I'm guessing Photoshop ....or Illustrator?!? It'd be cool to learn... gonna google to see if I can find any "how to" lessons...

Is it possible to have one with the LEXUS logo?

Just the L please, not word Lexus. Thanks.

Also, can you do ANY photo? Even if its nude? O:)

i'm not sure if nude pics are welcomed on this site, so i would suggest no.

Ok, THIS should work....

Its 1000 px high by 880 px wide, hosted using my twitter to post it as a pic to keep its large size.

Thanks in advance!

It's not just the size that is the issue with this one, it's the dimensions. Meaning, when I try to overlay your image on the wood I have to either cut of good portion of your image, or center it in the middle of the wood and thus reveal the horrid corners of the image. Does that make sense?

PS/CS5 is how these are accomplished. I learned strictly by playing around on my own; I don't use it for work or anything, so it's a 'downtime' activity/hobby.

Check out this post by Mr. Incognito -- who has helped me get things straight on how to accomplish it:

Mr. Incognito's short DIY guide to overlaying images on wood

Again, it's not just following steps -- you need a bit of artistic flair to an extent -- which I severely lack. Can't draw a lick. And my perception of what looks good isn't quite in tune with a 'real' artist.

Well, what if I made it 960 x 640 ....would that help?!?

Honestly, I was happy with the first attempt, I just zoomed in on it and used it as home screen. I would just like the image to take up all of the wood so you can see more of the planks on the screen...

A pic of my home screen using your rendering, zoomed in.

As the originator of the sports logos on wood I went through this entire thread (out of narcissistic curiosity I must admit) after having been away from Macrumors for a long time.

Wow, I had no idea when I started that it would ever go on like this. I must say, this is impressive.

Ok carry on

What'd you think of my technique? What PS tools where you using to create your wood wallpapers?

You remind me of that guy that took care of Curious George, the guy that wore wore all yellow and a yellow hat... yea:

LOL, I never thought of that. I need to Photoshop my face on the cover of Curious George!

Thanks so much for putting up with trying to accommodate me and my strange request! Your work is much appreciated!

To be honest every single one I made (all of the Major League Sports and BCS Colleges + others) used the same basic technique:

1) Magic Wand Tool to select out the background. This was super easy because I had a pretty good source for Hi-Resolutions logos that made the Magic Wand Tool the perfect one.

2) Set the layer style to overlay.

That's it. Occasionally (especially) with white logos I would have to duplicate the logo a couple times to make it a little darker but I never changed anything else. It was actually kind of funny to see how everyone else was doing them (some with good results and others not as much)

That's exactly how I've been doing mine. Do you use any tool or shortcut to center the logo on the wood or do you just eyeball it?

I used the exact same PSD file for all the wood wallpapers (it's got around 300-400 layers in it now) and it has guides set so I know where the center is.

"Ctrl-;" to show the guides (if they're off)
"Ctrl-T" with the logo layer selected gives you the transform option (which will show the center)
Then I just use the arrow keys to align it exactly with the center. Usually I only focus on the horizontal alignment. For the vertical alignment I have a layer I lay over the top at about 25% opacity which shows me where the bars (time and slider) are on the iPhone lockscreen. I then use this to align vertically so it looks the best once it's on the phone.

Here's a link to the base PSD I use if you want that layer: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6688660/Wood Background Base.psd

Sweet, thanks a bunch!

Hate to do this because you guys have already done so much for me, but just wanted to see what it would look like if I aligned everything a lil better up for you guys ...may this helps.

I redid the pic, erased the gradients, (sorry for quality, at work, comp doesnt have PS, had to use MS Paint) and resized it to a 960 x 640. I also think the wall may look a lil better if the wood background were flipped horizontally, so that the knots in the wood didnt smear the face.

At 960 x 640 minus gradients

Thanks! :apple:

Three Temple ones and not a single Villanova background?? Tsk tsk. Kidding, my girlfriend went to Temple. But if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you make a Villanova one? Thanks so much! These are amazing.

I'm looking for a NOVA one as well. Can we get one that has this on it:

After looking though this thread, may I kindly ask my requested pic to be put on this type of wood background?

It's cool about the nude stuff, but wow!

The one you did just looks 10x better then the photo I gave you.

Thanks a lot man! :)
