Omission is lying.... I wouldn't have dreamed of even making the attempt to take my phone in that I dropped into water to try and get a new one. I would have told them what happened and hoped that I could buy a new one at the discounted price but that is about it. That phone will go back to Apple and be inspected then cleaned and when they determine it was water damage (which they will) and they will mark it in their books as a loss (due to training or whatever). What do you think happens to those losses? They get inflated into the cost of the next phone or other products which will be paid back by other customers. Companies don't lose money... FYI, the company shouldn't be giving him good service, SHE BROKE HER OWN PHONE!

So you can "pretend" all you want, but you are lying, even by omission, to that person by not telling them that you damaged the phone.

I know where my morals sit and I am proud of them because I can easily display them in public… How about you?

1) Firstly, that phone may not have even been water damaged. 1 sensor was tripped.

2) The iPhone has only become cheaper over time. No inflation costs due to 1 water damaged unit there.

3) HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG.

Seriously, give it up. Go outside and play in the snow.

What part of "she dropped it in water" did you not get?

I said all products, not just the phone. Believe me, you pay for it, go back to school and learn a little before you post ridiculous comments.

As for the "hug" and the rest, quit trolling....

More hypocrisy? LOL - Resorting to the variance of "get a life." And yet here you sit post after post trying to hug people. I don't have to lighten up. I was never "riled" so to speak.

Seriously, give it up. :)

Being dropped in water does not necessarily fully water damage the phone. I've seen phones that have gone to the bottom of a pool have zero circuit board corruption and work just fine. 'dropped in water' simply means she dropped it in water - that's no indication of 'water damage' as Apple defines it (and it evidently didn't 'water damage' the phone since Apple replaced it).

As for the school comment, you gave me a chuckle. Thanks.

Nope, this is not trolling. I contributed to the thread more than the 'morally righteous' people here.

You weren't riled? Shame. That means the hug wasn't for you then, I take it back. Meany. Surely though, replying to me puts you in the same ball park? Let's have a big hug. We're all as bad as each other.*hug*

Ah - but I wasn't the one telling you to "get a life" so to speak. My comment was tongue-in-cheek. We know yours wasn't..

Btw - it's considered spamming (and against forum rules) to post repeatedly without someone commenting in between. You've done it a few times in this thread.

You guys really know how to give a guy a panic attack.

I just checked my sensors and my iPhone, which was actually replaced on Sunday, as a small speck on the bottom sensor. Looks pink, but it's hard to tell.

It could just as easily be a speck of dust but it's still making me a nervous wreck.

Edit: Looks more wood/orange colored and it's casting a very slight shadow so it's definitely something just stuck to the sensor. Whew.

Edit 2: Hit it with a little bit of compressed air and it's ain't budging...but I'm concerned about condensation hitting it so I'm letting it be.

I learned very quickly that the best way to approach the Apple Genius bar is to pretend to be a technological retard. You hurt a genius' feelings because most of them don't know their ass from their elbow and they don't do you any favours. You pretend your technologically inept and suddenly they're your best friend.

I'm not qualified to sit in moral judgement of anyone, particularly when all I have to go on is a few lines of a post on the Mac Rumors website. Consider that my contribution to the 'speck' and 'plank' part of this discussion.
But I DO agree with the sentiments I've quoted above as a general rule when dealing with the Genius Bar.
For one thing, I don't know what their policies are- they don't seem consistent in any way.
And for another, the general approach I've observed from many Apple Genius employees is more like the triage model- stop the bleeding and move them along- rather than the full care model! That's NOT intended as a criticism of them. Most of the ones I've dealt with have been friendly, cordial and professional- but also, in a hurry to get to the next person on the list.

OK, phone works before pool and then phone doesn't work after pool. Regardless if it is water damage or not, it was damaged by the user and is NOT Apple's responsibility to repair or replace at their cost. Speaking of chuckling, I chuckle every time I read your asinine logic.

Since you are so smart, what did cause it to stop functioning after is was dropped in the pool?

There is help out there

Take it to the apple store and see what they can do. If for some reason they will not warrany it you can send it to my company. www.iphonemd.net for a small fee of $9.50,we can diagnose the problem and call you with a quote. It will definitely be less than $100.00 which includes shipping.
