starting to get worried about my iPhone that is still "preparing for shipment". I ordered from apple. Should I call AT&T just to make sure everything is okay?

Let's see,
your billing info is different than your card info
and you are wondering why the order got cancelled?
Hope this isn't to me. Billing and card info are obviously the same thing.
Question for the general community again: Would it not make sense to request to still have one release day? I mean I obviously had a spot and a phone preparing for the 14th release date, I ordered it before most people. My order got cancelled and they gave that spot to someone else. It seems like I SHOULD be able to get it back if I try hard enough.
It was pending shipment earlier today and next I checked it simply said cancelled. The sales rep for AT&T told me they don't accept debit cards, for ANY iPhone 4S sales on ANY service; which I'm pretty sure is a load of ********.

It doesnt work that way. The people taking the orders dont have a secret stash of iPhones they can allocate to solve problems like yours. They can just take the order. If the phone that was destined for you was given to someone else, and they ran out, they ran out. There will be other batches. I don't mean to sound like a donkey but it is what it is.
If you go to a store on Friday you have a shot at getting one even sooner that the folks preordering...
Very sorry for your problem!! Just FYI, something similar happened to me for the iphone 4 launch. AT&T and Apples sites were screwed all day long, finally got an Att order to the step before confirmation and site crashed. I thought the order didn't go through as no email, no order number etc. Got an apple order placed later that day. Lo and behold an Att order email shows up 3 full days later, so I cancelled it. Well 3 days before my apple order is supposed to be delivered, they cancelled my order too as they checked my eligibility again and since Att did not revert my eligibility status back to qualify for early upgrade, they viewed it as me getting 2 phones for the cheap price. I was pissed. I tried to get my order back with Apple, but every rep I talked to said they couldn't do it. The ONLY thing they could do was call the manager of my local Apple store and reserve one in my name and add me to the reserved list. I had to stand in line, but was guaranteed a phone in launch day. Good luck!!

This is all I'm asking for at this point. As for the guy who said I should mention it worked for other people: I did. I got nowhere with it. I'm gonna keep calling/call again tomorrow.
Apple was really cool about it, not AT&T.
One of the first replies mentioned arriving 8 AM thursday to guarentee a phone. so I'd be waiting like a full 24 hours? Did he mean friday or will I really have to arrive THAT much early to get a spot in line?
Does it matter if on shipping address i hav my home phone number but on the billing its my cell phone number? Address is the same. Just makes me nervous that the slightest thing it could be cancelled.
As I understand it, the issue is not that the billing info does not match the billing info on the credit card but that the billing info does not match the shipping info. This is not at all unusual. Many people have deliveries delivered to their workplace because there is nobody at home to sign for them.
Same situation as me. Apple can't do anything, and it's not their fault. It'd be cancelled on AT&T's part. I'm almost certain my order was cancelled due to the difference in shipping/billing info on the account holder and mine's info. Otherwise it would've been fine, but they tell me it was because I ordered with a debit card.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure you won't be able to have them get you it on Friday. They said they wouldn't for me, but if you do let me know so I can bring it up and hopefully have it done for me. Perhaps I can eventually get someone with a level of intelligence at AT&T too.
So, I called Apple again. They tried to order me a phone, but they said that AT&T had a block on my account. They had suggested that I call AT&T.
So, I called AT&T. After getting transferred to a busy signal twice, I finally got to a person, who put me on hold for ~20 minutes, saying that nothing is wrong with my account.
I called Apple back, and magically they were able to order me a phone. I suspect that AT&T was lying to me and just wanted me off the phone. The person who sold me the iPhone said that he would put a note on the order that I want it delivered on Friday and also suggested that I reply to the email with my old and new order numbers. He said that he couldn't promise me anything, but said that is the way to go about this.
Fingers crossed...
I have not been so notified, but after reading through this thread, I'm confident my order has been cancelled, too.
I just checked my bank account and the charge is gone. The Apple Store still shows "Preparing for Shipment". I ordered through the Apple Store early Friday morning using a debit card (which is the only card I own). My universal billing address is a PO Box, but I always have items shipped to my home's physical address.
I've purchased a $4,000 television, billed to the PO Box, and shipped to my home and not an eyelash was batted. But ordering an iPhone? Nooooooooo.
The very same thing happened to me in 2010 with the iPhone 4 pre-order. I ended up never getting one, and have my 3GS in front of me, battered and held together with electrical tape.
I'm off-contract, and will be canceling my AT&T account within the week.
Smart man.
