the number of sales are actually what explain why so many phones are having problems...NO manufacturing process is perfect, EVERY PRODUCT will have defective units produced. Some get caught in the factories, others make it out into the wild. Thats why they come with 1 year warranties...you have 1 year to figure out if somethings wrong. Im sorry you're having issues...but thats just the luck of the draw. You have a defective unit. Go get it replaced

Take the number of phones with issues. Divide it by the number they sold...you'll see that their failure rate % is actually very (impressively) low

what? I don't work for apple support. Im just logical

Yea I've already been told I can't replace the phone anymore times. I'm not the only one with these problems, they're crawling all over this site and lots of others. I love this phone I just wish it would work as advertised

how many times have you had it replaced already, and for what reasons? If its not performing properly, and it isn't from something you broke (which, internet speeds quite obviously isn't), then it is a manufacturing problem. You clearly have the proof to back up the fact that the speeds you are experiencing aren't normal for your area (speedtest history), so if they're giving you a hard time, I'd call applecare and explain your situation. I've had iPhones replaced 3-4 times in a year before without anyone saying a word.

It's really bumming me out though that this phone crashes so often. I just really would like to see these iDevices not bog down. The sad part is that most issues are software. I guarantee if I go and ask owners if they have ever had a hangup or springboard restarts randomly or battery life then I know generally the answer is yes and they mostly didn't pay much attention. It's just unfortunate that things are like this for me and everyone I know. iOS 5 general is just tangled in little slip ups. Btw on the phone right now and noise cancelling is not working, proximity sensor is not working, and bluetooth won't turn on. Can't be possible I got the same defective equipment in three different phones through 3 retailers. Software I blame you

Does the OP work at BGR..haha jk

I have great service in Alamogordo, NM and its mostly Verizon coverage. I am with AT&T.

When I moved here in 2009 this was only Verizon coverage in the area. no AT&T store. I had the iPhone 3GS and the coverage was average and I still had only minimal dropped calls, but that was because it was a Verizon only area.

From what a previous post said this phone is probably the best on the market right now.

I looked at a Droid Bionic yesterday and it to me look so simple and plain. Also it is too big for me.

I would return the phone you have and get another one.

I've had an AT&T iphone since the 3G, and I have never had any problems with dropped calls or slow internet. Sure it doesn't go as fast as my cable modem at home, but I don't expect it too. Every now and then a phone call with get disconnected but not enough to be a problem, and I assume half the time it is due to the person on the other end (there are two phones involved with a call, why assume the problem is always my end?). Of course, I live in Houston which is a huge metropolitan area, within a few miles of downtown. If you look at an AT&T coverage map, the best coverage is right where I live (and other major cities).

I love the 4S, best phone I've ever had. So far I have not had a single dropped call on it. Not one. My only issue is the Siri startup freeze caused by certain bluetooth devices (two of which I use). Having to wait 5-10 seconds for Siri to start running is annoying and reduces the usability and benefits of having it.

I'm running iOS5 on my year old iPhone 4 with no issues. A dropped call every now and then though the AT&T service in Atlanta is generally great so I don't know whether to blame the phone or AT&T.

I seriously doubt the iPhone 4S is the "worst yet", though I'll be holding out for the next "best iPhone ever" with LTE.

Had VZW since 2005 and never ever dropped calls on my regular flip phones.
I've had my VZW iphone since launch back last Feb.. and never had a dropped call.

Iphone is not the problem.. it is the carrier and your location.

Just so everyone knows.. At&t customers had complained about frequent dropped calls prior to the iphone arrival...

I do think it's fairly miraculous that the OP and "EVERYONE" he knows are having dozens of problems, many of which have not even been common complaints around here, to my knowledge.

"Everyone"! An epidemic, it seems.

I've had my AT&T iP4S since launch day. Probably 100 calls, none dropped. Consistently pulling down 2-4 mbps over 3g. Totally depends on where you are.

If you are content to blame it on software that's fine. I'm just saying that me and lots of people I know have not had any issues like this (I've had restart, etc on old iPhones, but that was while jailbroken). You CAN get a working phone if you want to put in the time to fight CS (sounds like they're being quite difficult for you, that's unfortunate but it isn't true of all of apple CS). You have been VERY unlucky, and I can certainly understand your frustration

I guess it comes down to sticking out with what you have, choosing to leave apple, or getting your phone replaced. Each option has its advantages or disadvantages. Id get myself a working phone but that doesn't mean it is the best decision for everyone

It's a shame that a $900 phone drops more calls than the last iPhone 4. I have lost 73 to be exact phone calls since the release of this phone. This phone has slow internet anywhere I'm at. I've gone all over in a +100 mile radius and still no change. iPhone 4S, this disappoints everyone, again. Not complaining about it really but it's just sad that I can't call people half the time, or during the call it just "call failed" 's on me and then won't call the person back. Even tested it and the call wouldn't go through near the tower with the person I'm calling sitting by me. I'm not the only one thank god. My friends have the same problem, a few of which are 1200 to 2000 miles away from me so it can't be local. It can only be the work of a company that refuses everything but what they can take that is popular and getting outdated and call it new. Apple is the new Vegan cult version of technology I swear.

Whatever...

Thank you for not trying to shoot me down like everyone else. I'm not trying to blame the phone or AT&T but in every instance I've had with the thing it just has not been a good experience in the Phone department. Sprint to AT&T both phones returned the same message as call failed then hang on the dialing screen until you click end. I waited 10 minutes and it just didn't dial. Same happened on Sprint to Verizon, AT&T to Verizon, and AT&T to AT&T. All iOS 5 devices, and they all both randomly gave me call failed screens and wouldn't reconnect until the phone was sat for a few minutes. I know location is a big part of it but I mean these are tests in some of the highest coverage areas in the State and calls to very high coverage areas across the country. I'm glad that all of y'all are having a good experience with yours but you don't have to take it out on me because I'm not. I came here to provide a problem and maybe get a solution because Apple hasn't helped, AT&T is blaming Apple, and I'm stuck with a great iPod.

Last night I was facetimeing and it just up and failed, it said facetime failed but my internet was steady fine, my friends internet was steady fine, but we both recieved the message that it failed and then I couldn't call him back and he couldn't call me back (on regular phone calling) until the phones were reset. It's just really buggy for me but I do notice everything so maybe I'm being anal here. Who knows.

Wow. Great fiction.

Phone calls are so 1990s. Get with the times ;)

Well for you maybe. But why buy iPHONE in the first place then? Why not buy iPad 3G instead if you never call on this hyper modern 2011 era?

Just because people complain they cant make acceptable phone calls on their iPhone, you just mock voice call is so 90s?

What about if I complain I have dropped 3G internet on my iPhone? Would you say "OMG browsing on your phone is so 2000?" whats the point of having a smartphone then?

And why is this guy getting some vote ups anyway? Enjoy some bullying folks??!

Get over it man, some respect please? You'd do the same or even worse in the same situation!!

I been with AT&T, Sprint, and now Verizon. AT&T dropped lots of calls and had weak signal. Sprint tried to play it off with it's 2 to 3 bar action with weak speeds. Verizon is strong, maybe more expensive, but 4G LTE all you can eat is damn nice. Verizon keep their network running smoothly, where AT&T try to hold off as long as possible. And Sprint they have an alright network, but they are afraid to turn it up they want to conserve a little to much of their unlimited data. At least Verizon don't slow ya down and give ya some juice.

For the sake of this post only, I'm going to set aside the brand and model of cell phone. I'm going to set aside all the carriers.

What are we left with? A disturbing number of people who have no idea how cell phones and cell phone networks function.

If they did they wouldn't be blaming, pointing the finger, and playing the victim.

Knowledgeable users would be posting far different responses. They would not be bashing _any_ carrier for the reasons they do.

For it's those very reasons they currently cite that make it readily apparent they are out of their league, and simply guessing.

Not a single dropped call on my 4S in Jacksonville. It has been months from my last dropped call on my 4 and none on the 4S. People are so quick to blame the phone. Sometimes they install a case that cuts the RF in half!

This is self inflicted
