I actually don't disagree with most of what you said. As a former Windows user, I felt your pain.

But I drank the Apple Koolaid and I feel much better now... :D

My last computer would have been an Apple of some sort if not for a couple of pieces of windows-only software that poop all over Apple's offerings (for example J River Media Center vs. iTunes). This (and a couple others) are pieces of software that I literally could not live without.

As it stands now, I am considering buying a used Mac Mini in the ~$300 range to be my connection from my iPhone to my PC; Basically just keep all of Apple's crap they force me to have (that actually runs pretty damn well on a Mac) on the Mac Mini. Then network it with my PC that I can do all my heavy lifting on. My great fear is once I do this, I'll find out that Apple's computers can't network with my current Windows 7/U-Verse set up. Or it will work but be flaky. Or it will work, but then Apple will break the compatibility on purpose. My other option is to take the plunge and go Android. I already use Google for GMail, Google Docs, Picasa, my web searching, and quite a few other things. And I love them all because they work well together (like Apple) and they are generally free or dirt cheap (the complete opposite of Apple). But I don't want to get stuck using Android until it catches up to iOS (in my eyes).

So yeah right now, I'm stuck in a web of Microsoft/Google/Apple and sometimes I think the best solution would be a tall glass of cyanide. I know my life would be easier if I just went one direction or the other. I feel like I'd be happier with all Apple products... but I can't as a consumer in good faith support a company that operates how they do.

Also, I apologize to the OP for somewhat hijacking the thread. I don't even deserve to be posting here since I'm not a 4S buyer (but I suspect I will be buying the iPhone 5)

Not really. People just need to search first for similar threads.

I knew that thread existed, without searching for it. I asked a completely different question.

The other thread was titled: "How many of you would be livid if a redesigned iPhone was introduced June 2012?" and the thread starter asked: "Seems everyone still wants a redesigned iPhone despite the new release of the 4S. How would you react if that happened June 2012?"

I asked if people would upgrade for a redesigned iPhone 5. Similar? Yes. The same? No.

I never asked about people being mad. I never asked how they would react. I never asked about if the date of the next release would have an impact on their choice. All fundamental differences in the thread.

I will repeat myself: are the threads similar? One could argue yes (you would be one of them). Are they the same? No.

I believe you're wrong. If you don't agree, so be it.

Maybe I will. I am now on a 2 year deal with Orange UK, but no matter I could just get one unlocked from Apple store. I wouldn't do it if it was next Summer though, too soon - maybe if the next iphone is Oct again.

This is my first iPhone, so maybe I have no clue what I am in for but I typically skip at least 1, if not two generations with tech so I expect the 5S will be my next phone, or the 6.... but we will see. :)

Not unless the "5" has a larger screen, a much larger battery, and direct home page access to the sorts of toggles that matter, such as using or not using data, wi-fi, et cetera, and possibly the Google turn-by-turn map program.

I'm a recent convert to the iPhone, got my 4S last week. It's a nice phone, but I wish Apple had spent less time on "cutsie-poo" and more time on utility. I'd prefer a thicker iPhone with a honkin' big battery to an iPhone where the goal seems to be to get it as thin as a credit card.

I'll always get it on release day. If I can get the majority of the cash from selling the previous model I'll always do this.

I don't always get it on release day, but that is the new plan. Sell the old one so the new one costs little to nothing.

Sweet jesus. The phone has only been out 5 mins and you're already thinking about the next one?

Just enjoy what you got!

Hahaha, I am more than enjoying what I got, it's fantastic. I have zero buyer's remorse.

With that said, I am always excited/looking forward to a newer and better gadget.

I will always upgrade because i can!
Ill get all the iphones for the rest of life!

The only reason I said that is because that's essentially what they did with Siri. I hope Apple's new business model isn't "buy up the companies that make the best 3rd party apps, remove them from the app store, and unveil them as new during keynotes"

I can see it now...

iPhone 5 with a vastly improved camera app (oh, btw guys no biggie, but the Camera+, Hipstamatic, and a few other apps that we know you guys have been using for years are going to disappear). But don't worry... we are also going to include this awesome new map application which will use be a collaboration of Google Maps and Garmin Navigation to offer turn by turn navigation. Oh, but all turn by turn navigation apps currently available will be removed from the app store!

So Apple will....buy Facebook? Beyond the fact that you can just access it through Safari, that's one of the most bizarre business buyout predictions I've heard in a while. Apple has also been doing this for years, as has MS, Google, and pretty much every tech company out there.

First and foremost, I love the 4S. I upgraded from a 3GS and the improvements are incredible.

With that said, I will be upgrading for sure.

The 4S will go to my Fiance (wife on 11/12/2011, she has 3GS still) and I will buy the iPhone 5.

Yes, I probably will.

I paid off-contract prices for the iPhone 4S's we got in order to keep our ability to get the iPhone 5 when and if it becomes available.

I know, it's dumb. It's a way of life. What can you do.

Nope, or at least not immediately. I'd never buy an unsubsidized iPhone, I'd just wait for my discount.

Yup. Even if it comes out in April or something. My wife and I have a rotational upgrade thing on our plans, and she never wants the newest phone. When I gave her my 4, she said "I'm really OK with my 3Gs." Even after a few days she's like, "I guess it's better, but I was fine." So, I can upgrade every year without any issues.

That sounds like my wife. Sometimes I walk in the family room and she is watching the standard definition channels instead of the hidef channels. When I point it out and change it for her, she says pretty much the same thing "I guess that's better!"

Without a doubt, 4s is my first Iphone from long line of Androids and I ain't never going back.

OP, I am in the same situation as you - upgraded from the 3GS (after having it since launch) and bought the 4S. I too intend to buy the 5 when it's available - I'm sure the resale value of the 4S will be enough to sufficiently subsidise the price of a 5!

Not really. People just need to search first for similar threads.

"How many of you would be livid if a redesigned iPhone was introduced June 2012?" is not similar to asking if 4S buyers will upgrade again next year. And it appears that the discussion in this thread is going just fine.

nope, i will not purchase the new model. personally i actually prefer the "mid-cycle refresh" models. bugs are usually fixed and slight improvements made. with a complete redesign there are inevitably new bugs & issues.

same goes for cars.

but i will get the iphone 5s, 6s, or whatever it is called.

:D
