I've held in my hands an HTC Evo. While a nice phone, the width of the phone (based on portrait orientation) makes it a bit awkward to hold. That's why I think the iPhone 4S--it that's what Apple chose for the new model name--will look like a slightly thicker iPhone 4 but with edge-to-edge LCD touchscreen panel (left and right side based on portrait orientation).

I am really hoping they get rid of the button as well to be honest. Time for a touch sensitive area underneath the screen, a thin band or something to give us more screen real estate.

My Boost rep said Sprint was in negotiations with Apple, but was not happy with the price Apple wanted to get the iPhone on the network.

However he could have been trolling me just to sound informed.

I would love it if the Apple came here. I have an EVO 4G and I love it, but I miss iOS so much. Honestly it just can't be beat. We JUST got Netflix for crying out loud.

In my experience rep's aren't told info like that boost rep says he knew. And I highly doubt a Boost rep knows anything about Sorints upcoming phones that have not been released to the public.

Curious

Apple will not allow Tmobile or Sprint to undersale Verizon and AT&T with those very affordable unlimited everything plans...and if Tmobile gets the iPhone does this mean it will be the fastest iPhone?

Why would Apple care what Sprint or TMobile charge for monthly plans? Do Verizon & AT&T charge the same for plans?

Once Apple receives payment from the carrier for the device, why would it concern them if the carrier turns a profit?

If it lands on the Sprint network, any chance of Virgin Mobile reeling one in? $25 a month for unlimited everything on an iPhone would pretty much kill off android phones.

I highly doubt it in fact I would be surprised if it lands on Sprint or T-Mobile especially since AT&T is trying to grab TMobile.

One thing this would force AT&T to do is go back to the unlimited plan, because if the iPhone is on Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint with $30 unlimited plans, AT&T will have no choice but to cave in or what I see is all the other carriers going to a tier'd plan, they all can not stay different for long, it just will not work. I can also see carriers locking folks into a solid 24 month contract, Verizon does it and if everyone is going to compete for iPhone business, I see maybe even a 3 Year Contract coming like in Europe.

Given how somewhat bulky the HTC Thunderbolt is with its 4.3" touchscreen, I doubt Apple will do an iPhone with such a big screen. Now, 4.0" touchscreen is definitely possible with the iPhone 4S.

The android size criticism is overblown IMO. My EVO easily fits in the front pocket of jeans and the size has never been an issue. With that said, if apple goes to 4" rather than 4.3, I would still consider an iPhone. If it stays the same size as now, then no way.

Yeah my EVO is slim enough to fit in any pocket but I could easily live with a 4in screen. I've always thought the iphone/ipt screen just a wee small for my hands but the 4.3in just a bit too big to handle with on hand at times.

I don't know for sure but VZ I don't think has unlimited data. It says unlimited, but its not. Odd I know. Sprint does, and I am pretty Sure t mobile does.

Doesn't T-mobile throttle speeds after a certain amount? And I'm pretty sure Sprint has a "soft" cap at 5gb although I haven't really heard of them enforcing it (even on myself for 4 years). Even then, I'm all for a sprint iphone. Even though AT&T data speeds have been 2-3x faster than the fastest speeds I got on Sprint, it's not nearly as reliable if you roam about.

I personally don't know if t mobile throttles the speed but I know Sprint will (with 4G, not sure on 3G). Right now, Sprint is truly unlimited -- if I somehow use more then 5GB of data then I don't get charged mor. This is for cell phone only, not wifi built into the phone or those mifi devices. The idea is people don't generally use more then 400mb of data on cell phones (avg iPhone user uses 300mb or around there). So sprint doesn't charge u more because you never will use too much. They have expressed if we start using insane amounts of data the policy will change. I personally don't think iPhone uses use more data than eco or HTC arrive users. I know webos users ar data hogs too. But I think the iPhone going to sprint will have an increase amount of traffic because sprint is cheaper and has truly unlimited. And with the news that sprint ties with VZ on bing best customer service is a good thing too.

With more capabilities these phones are offering average data usage will continue to increase. I stream pandora on my commute every day and use about 1gb monthly just on that. I imagine people that regularly stream videos like netflix and etc... will be pushing limits as well. Especially those that don't have access to wifi. I'm glad I have "unlimited" data on AT&T.

Not coming to Sprint

I'm currently employed at Sprint, and from what we have heard here at the store is that Apple offered the iPhone to Sprint and Sprint DECLINED the offer, due to them just recieving the EVO and the new NEXUS.
Sorry iPhone people, but Sprint is most likely not going to be having the iPhone any time soon.

I don't believe it. All the Roids in the world aren't going to help them add subscribers like an iPhone would. Especially if T-mobile gets one.

This is the most Stupid thing i ever heard...

False. I highly doubt Sprint is going to pass up an opportunity to jump in a huge ring of money.

Good point, because to be hoesnt the only real change for the ipad 2 was the CPU and a little thinner, would make sense fo apple to call it the ipad 1s. but if the design is the same they may call it iphone 4s because its only going to be a cpu upgrade....

Hardly the only changes... An iPad 1 user unwilling upgrade, I'm guessing??

So let me get this straight...rumor is Apple is going to release the next iPhone in Sep...but the only update will be that it runs on other cell carriers. Therefore, in reality, the next update for an iPhone will be earliest Q2 2012 (Apple would wait 2 quarters at least before releasing an update of any product) which would then hopefully have some kind of new features.

So this would give Android (and others) to have all of 2011 and first half of 2012 to release more and more iPhone competitors.

Either this rumor doesn't hold any water, or Apple is just toying with disaster.

There is also confirmed that the next iPhone will have an 8MP camera with HD 1080p recording, 1GB RAM (Though Apple doesn't confirm RAM and other hardware until it's released), the new Apple A5 processor (Dual-Core) with much improved graphics. Apple hasn't mentioned LTE 4G support, but that doesn't mean Apple won't surprise people and announce it later on.
