A bigger screen in a barely bigger form factor: yes.
Or do you think making it a couple mm thinner is actual progress?
Take mobile vikings, 15 pre paid (sms and data are valid for a month) 2GB data 2000 SMS

So the majority of iphone users want a bigger screen (phone)?
I asked my wife and her friends if they wanted a bigger screen and phone on their iphones, can you guess what they said?
They said that if anything they would prefer a slightly smaller phone and couldn't care less about the screen size!
I would bet that if you surveyed iphone users about what they wanted from the next iphone it would be a minority who would say they wanted a bigger screen because the majority of users are like my wife, they want a phone that works flawlessly, has many features but will fit in their clutch bags or pockets!
I think many people posting here don't know what your average iphone user really wants. You are the minority and not the majority.

I can't believe how this thread went from discussion of how cool the new siri feature is to a comparison between Apple and Samsung. Bigger screen, no bigger screen.
Why would people be disappointed in Apple for pushing us forward with a phone that can do what no other phone before can? I was describing the feature to a friend (a road warrior friend in fact) and he couldn't believe what I was telling him. His comment was that the conversational voice recognition is stuff of science fiction - how could it possibly work so well?
He said he will for sure get the 4S just for this feature, because like me, when you spend hours in the car traveling for work, it would be really handy to be able to write texts and emails without having to stop the car each time (or worse, try to type while driving).
Even for parents of teens, this could change the death rate from inattentive driving (texting while driving) of their sons/daughters.
Those people stuck in the past of how things were will never understand or appreciate Apple's way.

Every single person on this forum who bitches about Apple Going down to hell in a hand basket basket because they did not include a 4 inch ++ screen and saying its now Android the leading phone because of that are dead wrong. It will sell .. and that's the bottom line !
These people coming here to the forums to show off their GEEKY frustration of not having a redesign Phone really think they are speaking for the masses of people buying iPhones ???
Its a phone for God's sake !!! If you don't like it .. go buy an other one that has the options you are looking for. I understand that some of you would like to have a 4 inch screen ... but please stop talking like everyone actually wants one!

That's what I thought too. Will people not purchase a new improved MacBook Pro because it's still in the same shell as last years? I think not.
So is the phone a fashion accessory that they want it looking different?

You sir have seem to have nailed to problem 🙂 ! Honestly I really think that the geeks are all outraged because no one will know that they have an iPhone 4S and not an iPhone4 ... so they cant brag or look cooler then others because its the same design.

Siri on iPad 2?
I'm just wondering if the iPad 2 will be able to run Siri. If not, I guess I'm glad I didn't move to an iPad 2 yet. It's got the A5 chip, but probably not enough on board RAM for iOS + Siri.

IF it does work with the iPad2 and the iPhone 4S ... will this be iCloud enabled ?

I use Siri on my iPhone to make an appointment ... then it pushes it to the cloud ... I get back home .. open up my iPad .. and everything I did with Siri (calendar, emails, reminders) is there waiting for me .. thats actualy sweet !!! 🙂

I can't see why not. It will be nice to play around with it on the iPad rather than the iPhone for now. Then again, this feature likely needs to a continuously accessed internet, so maybe it won't have this feature. I can see people complaining that their Siri doesn't work (when the actual problem is that they don't have an internet connection).

I totally agree. I can't believe all this talk about screen size. I doubt screen size will ever need to change. What ever size it is now works just great right now. The whole idea of being able to pinch the screen solves the "I need a larger screen issue". Is a person really seeing things SOOO much better on a screen that is .5 inch larger? C'mon.

The iPhone 4S is going to sell big time because of features, not because of screen size. Apple, I'm certain, went through an incredible amount of focus groups to determine what size the majority of the public wanted. I'm sure it wasn't 4 inches. If that's what the public wanted, Apple would have made it.

combining GSM+CDMA, jumping from [Bluetooth 2.1+EDR] to [Bluetooth 4.0], maintaining same data transfer speed as 4G phones [ok, I may have misunderstood this one] without actually moving to 4G support... that's already freakin' awesome!

What gives you the impression that the size is perfectly fine? No alternatives? Oh, but there are alternatives. Try browsing the web or watching movies on a 4.3" droid, and try going back to the 3.5" iPhone. Hell, it's even heavier and mostly thicker than a 4.3" like the SGS2. Try going back to 1999 and people will tell you they are "perfectly fine" with 15" iMacs. How ridiculous is a 15" desktop today?
People expected bigger screens EVERYWHERE, and one week ago you would have gotten a -70 rank at suggesting that the iPhone 5 (4S) would have been better with a 3.5". Now Apple presented it and everybody is alright with it. Very definition of the reality distortion field.

Yup. And they're not selling anywhere near the iPhone. The 3GS is outselling them all. That's embarrassing.
Screen size ranks just slightly behind "OMG WE NEED FLASH" in the list of things that geeks care about, but nobody else does.

No T-mobile 4S???
The Apple site says the frequencies are: UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz). Does anyone know if I put this 4S one on T-mobile would this 'worldphone' get 3G speeds?
If my memory serves me correct I think T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 MHZ.
Any thoughts?

The only thing I'm happy about is I can finally leave AT&T. I had Sprint but left to go to the iPhone 3Gs. Love the phone, hate AT&T's greed..
Sprint gets knocked on all the time but IMO their service was/is way better than AT&T in my area (Philly burbs)
I wanted a bigger screen and LTE (sure, I would have to got to the Big V for that, but at this point I feel anything is better than AT&T)
Is it just me, but why did they need so much time to release the same phone with a new processor and video chip?
Well, at least I'll be back with Sprint. Hope the iphone 4s can save them.

It's not necessarily the hype the drives the stock down immediately afterwards as almost always happens. It is Wall Street manipulating the push down. The stock, as always will soar again in the next few days if not today.

You know, if we took all the upgrades the iPhone 4S has and change how it looks, everyone would be raving today on how it's the best thing ever. The fact is, Apple will sell millions of the iPhone 4S and it will still be the best selling smart phone in the world.
Remember, how good a phone, or operating system is, is not based on specs alone. Andriod fans what you to think that. The success of the iPhone is due to the reliability, quality, ease of use and eco system support. The iPhone it tops in all those area's.

This may have already been mentioned, but I didn't feel like reading through 22 pages of posts and skipped to the end around page four...
For everyone saying, "what have they been doing for 16 months?!?!?", assuming you are only talking about the hardware aspect of things (since they clearly have revamped the OS and added features like Siri, which I'm sure took a lot of work to run as smoothly as Apple likes their products to work)... really it's only been 8 months since they were clearly working on the CDMA iPhone for the time before that. Since then they have been working on a phone that can be used on all carriers (CDMA + GSM).
If they released a completely redesigned phone, CDMA customers would be unhappy since they just got their phones 8 months back at the earliest. So they make a combined phone and the same way they made GSM users wait 16 months for a new phone, now CDMA users will wait 16 months and Apple will get back on schedule (June-ish timeframe) and all carriers will be on the same release cycle with a newly designed phone (probably similar to the leaked prototype). They need to keep everyone happy and get everyone on the same release cycle. All in all it's a move to put themselves in a better production position. This revamped phone will be on par with the competition until next summer. Just my 2¢.

Correct. You can't look at the stock prices immediately and determine if Apple did right or wrong. IIRC, Apple's stock took a hit when Steve Jobs steped down, only to soar over $400 within a few days after that.
