i'm actually impressed with the iPhone 4S i mean I'm not that bothered about screen size and its still going to be one of the fastest phones so i don't no why people are complaining :apple:

A 3.5-inch screen after over 4 years sounds tolerable to you?

So, if the iPhone had a 3.5" screen in 2007 and a 4" screen in 2011. By my math at a .5" screen size increase in 4 years...
By 2023 it should have a 5.5" screen? Is there a certain number of years that should correlate with screen size increases?

end of the day its a phone that can do a lot more than my old nokia can do so they have a sale from me my ipod touch is outdated and i think with out of the box setup apple have finally made a product i can invest in

Like it was said over and over again, this year was all about Software and how to make it run flawlessly. Even the hardware upgrade was done in order to work iOS and Siri work lag-free and fast. 8MP Cam to rival bionic and others. Seriously, the Speech-to-text feature in Android phones is nowhere close to Siri. Only downpoint of iPhone 4S is the screen size which most people don't even care.
P.S - Infinity Blade 2 looked awesome on 4S.

iPhone 4S 16GB: $199 (599 if you add the subsidy)
iPhone 4S 64GB: $399 (799 if you add the subsidy)

The difference is 200 bucks and 48GB of flash.

48GB of MLC NAND costs around $40 (source: DRAMexchange). Now that's the average contract price, Apple will get a much better deal because they buy millions of chips.

Profit margins like that are unheard of in consumer electronics.

But true Apple fans pay it gladly so that the company can make record profits. That is what really is important to the Apple consumer.

omg!
combining GSM+CDMA, jumping from [Bluetooth 2.1+EDR] to [Bluetooth 4.0], maintaining same data transfer speed as 4G phones [ok, I may have misunderstood this one] without actually moving to 4G support... that's already freakin' awesome! :apple::apple::apple:

Anything less than 10" in 2023 is just plain unacceptable. Seriously, 4" phones are good for some people, but they are bulky. Hell, the iPhone is bulky enough already. These things are *phones*, they are supposed to slip easily into a pocket, etc.

I do see the possibility of a bigger screen by shrinking the non-screen real estate on the front of the standard iPhone (who knows, we might see two screen sizes in the future?), but that will probably take quite a bit of engineering work.

On a side note it´s always amusing to see the checkbox fetishism on tech sites whenever Apple releases something. "No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.", "It´s just a big iPhone!" indeed.

The joke of course is that Apple makes its outrageous sums of money exactly *because* it steers clear of the tech site crowd...

can't wait for a vanilla google phone. or even an amazon phone. apple needs to compete. pride comes before the fall. love apple, though :apple:

Google nexus and google nexus s. Get it now.

Apple = Major Fail

16 months for a better camera and a 'faster' chip.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Tim Cook is a failure and should resign with immediate effect.

The teenagers of the forum have come and started a bitchin' feast! Bravo!

I wish I had that siri application on my Android phone. It's so integrated so well. I miss my iPhone. the battery life alone was worth it.

I think the probable reason on why they settled on the iPhone 4 design is probably they want to maintain the high pixel density of the screen. They could increase it to 4.0" and adopt a 720p resolution, like the future Nexus phone as well as the Sony Ericsson "Nozumi".

Can't wait for some real world tests to compare the iPhone 4S battery against say Samsung GS2.

GS2 seems to have good battery life and it is the current competitor to iPhone. At least those I know who don't use an iPhone are using GS2 now!

Suggesting an iPad as a smartphone replacement is absurd.

Actually, the one thought that might keep me from buying the 4s, is using my iPad as my phone. I don't like to carry multiple items, and I never leave without my iPad. So, I don't think it's so far fetched. If I remember correctly, we lived for at least a couple of centuries without a phone in our pocket.

16 months ago the standards were different. Apple started falling behind the competition back then but now the gap has widened significantly. And iPhone will probably keep the market crown but why would we (the consumers) care? Besides, the stats are somewhat meaningless. For example, Samsung has a bunch of phones that are quite similar to Galaxy SII on the market so some consumers do buy them thus potentially decreasing SGSII share but Samsung's overall smartphone market share is growing fast (faster than the Apple's one)

Sorry but, weren't basically all those downsides to iPhone 4 as well? It wasn't the fastest phone out there, no NFC. No Oled, no screen size choices, no dual band wifi, only 512MB ram (well at that point all the rest had 512 as well though), the camera resolution front and back were lower than competitors, and no support for memory cards where even much older phones had support for SD.

That did not change anything and iPhone 4 became the #1 smartphone worldwide anyway.

You're making the assumption that lilo777 actually uses facts to back up his argument. He's a troll that keeps bringing up the same points over and over, no matter how often he's proven to be wrong. He lives on planet GeekyMcSpecSpec, and doesn't understand how far away he is from reality.

We'll AP_Piano295 least it's not like ANDROID "KNOCKOFFS" where you have to buy A WHOLE NEW PHONE to upgrade the OS. Android Sucks period! That's why Apple, is just apple, and we luv it! :D

Actually I think a commercial best but it about non-apple users, no need for anyone to say. :)

Actually you do have to buy the iPhone to get the upgrade the only physical upgrade to the 4S ...Siri

After all, 95% of smart phone users I know won't use the tech upgrade nor notice it...

----------

Go buy an ipad if you want a bigger screen so badly.

Foolish comment

So, now Apple will carry 3GS, 4, and 4S? What is the word I was looking for? Oh yeah - fragmentation! Delicious irony is delicious :D

Well not everyone can spend $850 on a phone because yes, that's exactly how much the current iPhone 4 costs here in Belgium. 639eur. You get it unlocked, but who cares, I need a contract to go with it anyways. I've been with the same carrier for years, so the fact that I can switch to any I want is useless. I'd much rather buy em locked and subsidized and sign up for the same type of contracts I'm already getting now on TOP of that $850.

Not to mention our contracts are beyond pathetic. To give you an example, $40 a month for one with 200MB data limit.

1. LTE
2. Removable battery
3. Screen size
4. True multitasking
5. Themes - this one STILL baffles me

That good enough? I could go on...

6. 1280x720 330ppi SAMOLED+ HD display on the prime coming (already on the Galaxy SII v2 coming out shortly in Europe
7. Flash support
You forget bluetoot file transfer to non apple hardware and phones!;)
Thats why apple stay apple and i will no way buy anyone without these tools you mentioned plus what i said;)
