can't wait for a vanilla google phone. or even an amazon phone. apple needs to compete. pride comes before the fall. love apple, though :apple:

I for one am disappointed, I just don't understand why Apple did not go for the larger screen, truth be told a lot of the mentioned features have been around in the Android world for a while..

Sure nice to see dual core processor, but lets be real, will it really enhance your experience that much? The iPhone 4 was never slow to begin with, and who needs 7x the graphics on a 3.5" screen, will we even be able to notice a difference? I'm not saying that Apple should not add faster hardware, all I'm saying is the keynote left me disappointed, I wanted so much more then internal upgrades..

Frankly I think the sales will be lower then iPhone 4.. Will wait and see..

Funny... just logged in to pay my AT&T bill and saw this:

As a valued AT&T customer, you qualify for a discounted iPhone upgrade at two-year commitment pricing plus $250, along with a two-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee.

Why the heck AT&T doesn't have the common sense to lower the $250 to be the same as what my ETF would be I'll never understand. Right now it would save me money in both upfront costs and in monthly fees to switch to Sprint if I wanted to upgrade to the iP4S.

So, now Apple will carry 3GS, 4, and 4S? What is the word I was looking for? Oh yeah - fragmentation! Delicious irony is delicious :D

“Fragmentation” in reference to smartphones and app selection/quality doesn’t mean three names. It means that among all the different Android phones, any given model will fail to run lots of given apps. And that developing for Android is more challenging and less profitable and harder to support, and harder to make as clean and usable a UI. A problem in vastly different league than simply having 3 iPhone choices on the market.

Oh right, by ignoring the article and posting the same tone-deaf complaints from every other topic on the forum. I'll be looking forward to Siri in my next iPhone. That's something I can't say about any voice service I've seen Android users fumble with (typically once or twice before giving up).
I've been pretty impressed with the speech recognition of my Evo 4G for quite some time now. I don't like absolutely everything about my Evo, but I do like my contract with Sprint and it certainly gets the job done. Based on what I've seen in today's presentation there's no "killer app" the iPhone 4S brings to the table that makes me want it bad enough to modify my contract. Apple could have wowed me with another game-changing iPhone 5 release OR they could have equally wowed me with a much cheaper iPhone that didn't require a few thousand dollars worth of contract terms. Instead they provided neither.

1. LTE

[Enjoy your 4-5 hour battery life]

2. Removable battery

[I guess you'd need it if you had LTE in it's current state. iPhone's current battery performance negates the need for removable]

3. Screen size

[4"+ Phones are terribly uncomfortable to use with 1 hand]

4. True multitasking

[Yep. Your LTE toting phone needs something else to kill battery life faster. iPhone DOES multitask. Dunno what's with this "true" nonsense. Can my apps perform vital functions in the background while I am doing something else on my phone? Yup... sounds like Multitasking to me.]

5. Themes - this one STILL baffles me

[You are grasping at straws here. This is not a vital function of any phone.]

That good enough? I could go on...

[nope, sure isn't!]

6. 1280x720 330ppi SAMOLED+ HD display on the prime coming (already on the Galaxy SII v2 coming out shortly in Europe

[Well this ties into #3, which I already explained.]

7. Flash support

[Flash will be dead in 5 years]

I kind of wanted a new form factor myself but will happily take this one for sure. My home button is trashed and my screen is all chipped up so needed a new one and have been holding off since before June (funny how June turned in to October, oh well) So I'll be ordering one up Friday for sure.

I think the best part is going to be listening to and hearing everyone who was so SURE that Apple isn't going to call it an iPhone 4s. iOS 5, A5 chip, 5th gen phone. IT'LL BE CALLED AN iPHONE5 can we stop with this iPhone 4s stuff that the rumor sites made up!!!! Really?!?! Is that so.......... Yeah you called it! Hahaha

GREAT 4S, love it

The hardware doesnt matter much, the specs bump on that 4S is just HUGE! i have a black iphone 4 right now, im getting a white 4s.
I mean Siri is GREAT, and that camera is almost PERFECT!!! I love the 4S !
Tim Cook was good. I like him.
And remember : :apple: always does the right thing. ;)

Wouldn't want to be the Sprint CEO today.
Talk about poor timing.
"What? Wait? We didn't buy millions of iPhone 5s?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!:D

i can't believe they're still selling the 3gs...

the service is what costs a ton, so if you can't afford a regular 4 - it's probably a very bad idea to commit to a 24 month contract...

Lots of people blindly buy an Android phone because it’s “free” So now at least that sub-market has a better option! The 3GS lacks the retina display and the 4’s awesome camera, but speed-wise it’s close the 4, making it a great device. Just not as great as the 4 or 4S (better buys for sure).

Am I the only one that noticed...?

Just before the guy "shuts it up" (around 1:12) Siri says "You do not need to hold the home button. You can ask for things when the screen is on, just...."
That seems like a pretty big deal IMO.

sucks for the guys who sold their iphone 4 hoping there would be a redesigned iphone 5 with bigger screen... phew! I almost sold mine too... ;)

What a lame upgrade. Apple has fallen so far behind Android it's not even funny. Where's the iPhone 5 with the bigger screen?

Show me an Android counterpart to the Siri feature. Then we can talk about Apple falling far behind Android.

Also, while it may have been nice for Apple to introduce an all-new design, there are advantages to keeping the same design. Apple can figure out ways of cutting costs. Also, Apple can figure out how to polish the design some more.

The A5 powers the iPad 2 and does it good. so it''s just gonna be super fast on the 4S !

A5 is a great jump (using my iPad 2 compared to the older ones).

I guess iPhone 4 users won't complain until iOS 6...

Yeah Siri would be the main reason why I would want to get an iPhone. I tend to want to use my phone when driving and I don't agree with people who text while driving so siri should alleviate a lot of that danger. My main problem with iPhone is the price point for the combination of minutes, texting and data. Hopefully Sprint will force att/verizon to be more competitive and keep their $79.99 unlimited plan going.

The SAMOLED+ HD display is actually PenTile, so it's effective resolution is down to half as what is advertised, depending upon who you ask and how you should calculate actual resolution. It's not a true 1280x720 in any case.
