No silent icon? You have an even better indicator then that, the button. A quick feel or glance and you'll know for sure what mode it's on, regardless of what you're doing on the device.

And why would we need a network icon when we could just open the SIM slot and see what card is inside? Or why bother with a phone signal icon when we could just make a phone call and see if it connects...

Problems arise when they view the iPhone as an alternate religion. It's not though. It's just a cellphone.

Honestly dude, I agree.

This is my First iPhone. I've had an iPod touch 2nd Gen for 2-3 years. Then an iPod Touch 4th Gen for little less than a year.

I then got my first iPhone 4S on Launch day. I LOVED it.

But iOS is getting boring. It just needs…more. Notification center is awesome. But It's not "ground breaking". We need more features, More Options, More settings.
It's basically been the same OS since 2007. (Few changes. But you get the point.) We just need different stuff.

Anyone defending otherwise is plain ignorant, and an iPhone fanboy who doesn't see things other than their small field of vision.

I bought a phone to make calls, email if necessary, camera and GPS. Every thing else I have a Computer/Xbox 360 for. This is not a toy for me, so I will never get bored with it. :D ;)

Good luck with what ever you get later on.....

Exactly!!!!! Could not have said it better myself. :D

Brilliant statement: all opposition has been silenced.

You are more bored with iOS' GUI than the hardware itself. I personally get bored with all them. I can criticize each and every platform. There are a number of things I don't like with Android. But surprisingly, my most laggy phone is an iPhone 2G. Of course, that is from 2007 and 2 1/2 years older than the Nexus One. But the N1 is much smoother and faster with the occasional force close or hiccup with the touchscreen. My iP4 is still the best and my fav.

Instead of saying my phone is better than your phone or having snarky remarks on certain platforms, I think people need to suggest ways to IMPROVE them all which then improves the overall experience for everybody. There is always room for improvement in technology. Today, I hope to finally pick up a Samsung Focus for $100 off CL. Hopefully a deal can be done. So I will own the three major platforms. I will probably love it at first because how stable and smooth WP7 can be only to be turned off by the shoddy build quality compared to my iPhones and N1. Nothing is really perfect and even if it was, you will get bored of it over time. C'est la vie.

I def. can see what the OP means by this post. I came from Android and iOS was a fresh breath of air on my part. You'll get bored of BOTH platforms the longer you use it, that's the bottom line.

I just enjoy the iPhone 4S more than any Android based phone atm, I use my camera a lot and I also listen to music a lot (music is my life) so going with the iPhone 4S was just a simple choice for me.

You can't go wrong with ICS and iOS5, in the end it all comes down to what your preference is - that's it.

try to go with a 1inch screen flip phone for a week then if your complaining about the screen size

----------

your post is boring to me.

The language some people use to describe Apple users is really irritating (Not to mention ridiculous) sometimes. "Got their followers convinced" it's the sweet spot? Funny how you don't describe Android as "having their followers convinced" that 4.0 is the sweet spot - no, in that case it's just users genuine feelings, right? But in the case of Apple users, Apple's somehow hoodwinked us into liking our 3.5 screens  I wonder if you even hear yourself?

I like 3.5. To me, it's pretty much the perfect size. I've handled 4.0 and higher screens on friend's phones - 4.0 is the biggest I can take, higher feels stupid big. I wouldn't mind a 4.0 iPhone, but I upgraded to the 4S from the 4 and I'm finding the 3.5 is still good for me.

As for Apple starting with Edge when others were at 3G, I believe that was because 3G was a battery hog at first. Apple didn't want to use it til the tech caught up - I think that's probly the reason they haven't introduced "4G" yet - it's a battery killer. There's :::nothing wrong with that:::. Nothing wrong with not wanting to introduce a technology if they feel overall it's going to lessen the performance of the phone. It doesn't matter if you CAN do it, technically. Sometimes it matters more what doing it is going to do to the rest of the device.

It's not like they're lying to people that their phones have certain features - you know what you're getting when you buy your iPhone. No one's got a gun to your head making you go buy a 3.5 inch screen phone that runs on 3G and has no NFC. Funnily enough, ppl still go buy them in droves.

And I'm an Apple fan, but I'm no fangirl. I have an iPod, iPhone and iPad, but I really dislike their computers. I love my PC and will always stick with PCs - they just work, for me. But I have a mind of my own, and no company has "convinced" me of anything, thanks :)

I assume when apple introduces the next model with a larger screen you will not be upgrading to it. Or maybe you will find that apple just does the larger screen in a better way.

That's what cracks me up with about 99% of people on this forum. They don't need any feature on their apple products and they are pointless features until apple includes them features then they rave about them! it's been this way ever since apple got into the electronics business and the apple fanboys will never change. They just can't see past the shine and glass to see the world has many more better options than stuff made by apple. Apple is nothing more than overpriced form over function.

Honestly this is the first phone i've ever not been bored of. I made the switch from the 3gs to the 4s, and loving every minute of it.

Yah i'll agree with many people in that it wouldn't hurt to get a nice refresh to iOS to give it a fresh new interesting feel rather than pages of a grid of 12 icons on each page.

HOWEVER, i'm not going to be bored with my phone. I have plenty of apps to make my phone VERY useful, i love the new retina display (if you've been on a 3gs and the move to retina its crazy), loving the non blurry camera, and as for customization i have a computer.

I think people are expecting too much out of a phone. If you want something awesome, go get a 3g mobile hotspot, plug it into a netbook and play with that.

EDIT:

I would somewhat agree with you, however an iphone is the only apple product i own. I don't like feeling like i would want to buy something new every 3 months. With an android phone, i have a feeling thats what it would be like. They are ALWAYS coming out with something new and better and they are only months apart. Also i get the fragmentation is supposed to be fixed with ICS, but again that won't be fully implemented for another 6 months to a year, so it wouldn't even be worth it to purchase an android right now besides maybe the Nexus.

Plus the iphone isn't even that overpriced. I paid $200 for my phone and it runs super smooth, i love how it handles my music, and my apps and its wonderful for a PHONE.... not a computer a PHONE. Call that me being a fanboy or whatever, but i know what is good in my mind. I went and checked out android phones before i got my 4s, and i just could NOT handle the big screen. If Apple does come out with a bigger screen, i'll probably hang on to my 4s as long as possible because its just uncomfortable for anything bigger than a 3.5.

As for a computer, i'm sorry a mac is just way too damn overpriced, that i will agree with you on there. I wouldn't buy it because there's nothing on there i would use that would be worth the money, plus i hate the OS.

Let me start off by saying the iPhone 4S is my first ever iPhone. I'm relatively new to iOS (I have own an iPad 2 .....

I've been using the iPhone 4S as my daily driver since launch day and it's been a good experience! Battery life is superb, the screen is gorgeous, and the OS is really fluid. .......

I'm not a fanboy of anything. ..............

...... just the honest opinions from a tech fanatic.

People are different, while we have some experiences in common, our conclusion is complete different.

I just love my iPhone 4S and even if it's an instrument (workrelated and private use), I somethimes just look at it.
I love the design, the feel and than I start it. It's just a nicely made device that performs the functions that I need when I need them (calls, sms, an occasional photo and movie, looking something up on internet, quick glance at Facebook, etc...).

I'm not someone that wants or needs everything that Apple puts on the market every year. I want something that does what it should do, have a decent build quality and looks good.
I'm more a "never change a winning team" and "if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it" kind of guy.
That comes probably from my job as an ITer where every two years it's more a revolution than evolution, especially when every new "revolution" needs upgrades and service packs to work properly.

So after years of pc's, Microsoft and Samsungs, I switched over to an iMac (I was a pure skeptical, even considered an Apple hater at the time).
Loved the ease, so a few months later I bought an iPad 2, while I wasn't sure if this IOS would perform as good as MacOSX...but it did.
So when the time came to buy a smartphone, I went for the iPhone 4S and it costs here 740€ (at time of buying $1 = 0,74€), so it wasn't cheap at all and yet I haven't regretted it for a nanosecond.

Now with these prices, my iPad 2 will be replaced by an "iPad 5" and my iPhone 4S by an "iPhone 6" or "iPhone 6S", but I'm certain that if I take good care of them, this will happen easily.

Maybe you are just an "Ice Cream Sandwich" guy...whatever that even means.

Did you actually read my post? I said I wouldn't mind a 4.0 screen. It's right up there ^ in the post you quoted - go ahead and re-read, I'll wait :)

OP, OP, OP...wayyyy too many blind fans on here for you to get away with an opinion like that. I mean how dare you express your opinion. I've had every iPhone since it came out and I can say that sometimes I get a little bored with it. Usually that's when I jailbreak and I even get sick of that after a few weeks and I go back. I actually kinda sorta wish I had gone with an Android phone this time around just to try it out and then got the iPhone 5 when it's released. However, and I don't have too much experience with Android, even though iOS might get boring sometimes it seems to be way easier and better organized.

@OP: There is a curse of unknown origin: "May you live in interesting times.", followed by its corollary "Be careful what you wish for."

In any case I view my 4S as an information tool, not a source of entertainment. I suppose if I have a sense of boredom, it is from observing the banality of the popular apps in the App Store. But then again, that simply mirrors life.

Listen to yourself! "iPhone 4S is getting boring to me." You read the stories in the news about something selling a kidney in China to buy the latest iPad?

I'm not about to debate whether the iPhone 4S is the best mobile phone on Earth at the moment. But perhaps you could try appreciating it a bit more. Out of all the criticisms I've ever heard of a phone, this is officially the daftest. "My phone's boring." Recycle it then and go back to live in the stone age.

In a way he's right, I use my phone a lot and that's why I've held onto my jailbroken 3GS. There is so much more Apple could do, iOS is boring stock. But there are certain things that makes no sense why Apple doesn't include, or does half assed. I.E. folder system, yes let's make a system where you limited in # of items. There isn't one reason they don't do something like FolderEnchancer on cydia or others where you can make folders and and folders within a folder to organize. Some people have a lot of games, it's nice having a games folder in which multiple category folders are within that (action, puzzles etc) and not limited by "12 apps" per folder. Same thing with business, as now I have biz app's and others organized neatly and not scattered among various folders.

Plus having SBS settings integrated into ios 5 is slick, and lot's of new widgets are being developed for it. But even then there's no reason Apple could just integrate toggles like for wifi, airplane, location etc. As well as controlling multitasking app's from that screen as well with widget task.

I added barrel to give iOS some pizzaz, as well as gridlock to be able to place app's exactly where I want. Diff themes to give it a fresh look vs the boring stock icon look.

Jailbroken iPhone far > stock iPhone, even if your not into games or anything, there are legit app's for improvement for normal use and for business, biteSMS for example.

You ever hear the crazy notion that everyone is entitled to their opinion?

You guys need to go out and live life, then maybe your phone's OS wouldn't be as boring anymore. But if you spend over 12 hours daily staring at your home screen, then of course it'll get boring.

This is the one post in the thread, after all opinions and complaints, that hit home the most for me. I've had the same apps on my phone since I had the 3G. Nothing changes because there's no innovation. It's frustrating to see 90% of the Top paid/free lists comprised of games. I've given up looking for new apps.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I don't think you appreciate the time and energy that went into building iOS and doing it right from the beginning.

If you half arse design an os in six months then completely redoing it every 12 months is not unexpected.

If you thoughtfully and meticulously design an os over many many years to get things right then redesigning the os because someone is bored does not make sense.

The os is not there to entertain you. Thinking that makes me think one is "holding it wrong".

Stability, reliability and capability are the underpinnings of ios.

Less is More. You don't understand Apple's philosophy it seems. Apple will never have the most bells and whistles of any device, but they will have a product that just works.
