Me: "I'd like to do a SIM unlock on my new 4S"

VZW: "So you're going to be doing some international traveling soon?"

Me: "Um, yes, in a couple of months."

VZW: "Let me transfer you to the department that can help."

On hold...............

Hmm that's weird they transferred you. Make sure they don't misinterpret and try to activate a global plan or something...

Wow, guy's not too smart...ended up being the same guy that wanted to transfer me...

VZW: "In order to unlock it they have to have a SIM card you want to use in the phone and call us back."

Me: "But what if I'm buying the SIM card from a vending machine in Europe - the phone has to be unlocked before I go to Europe....obviously I can't call you from the phone IN Europe without the phone being unlocked before I get there!"

VZW: "Um, hmmmm...let me talk to the Global department - but they'll probably tell me the same thing."

On hold......

Yeah that guy is definitely wrong...same thing happened to me with my Droid 2 Global last year. I had to call and talk to probably three different reps before I found one knowledgeable about doing a SIM unlock. They definitely can do it...it's just a question of whether they have the walkthrough instructions for doing it with the 4S (yet).

Sorry to ask you to waste your time like this...

I guess the good thing is - doing this exercise will hopefully result in VZW logging the instructions for future call-ins for the same request.

Still on hold....

I wish I was as lucky as you today. My iPhone is still in Kentucky. Oh well, it will be here tomorrow so I'm not worried about it.

A few more from this morning's unboxing:

Andrew,

You are the envy of a LOT of people right now.

But not me. I hate you. Really. I really really hate you.

LOL. Just kidding.

You are a lucky bastard though.

I also ordered within an hour of preopder being available. I also live in So Cal. But mine is coming via UPS. Which means it will be in my hands tomorrow.

May your crotch be infested by the fleas of 1000 camels.

Transferred to the Global Dept....

VZW Global: "Blah blah blah - understand you want to unlock your SIM - blah blah Verizon Wireless appreciates your business - blah blah blah - give me a few minutes to verify your account..."

Me: "Ok."

VZW Global: "What I just did sir was processed the SIM to be unlocked and you're good to go with any GSM SIM card!"

Me: "Wow, that's it, so I can just drop in a pre-paid SIM when I arrive in Italy?"

VZW Global: "Yes sir, that's all. Anything else I can assist you with aside from the SIM card unlock?"

Me: "So you can do it all from there - nothing for me to do from the phone settings?"

VZW Global: "Yes, we've done it all from our systems here. Anything else I can assist you with aside from the SIM card unlock?"

Me: "Nope, thanks!"

Totally photoshopped. It's clearly an iPhone 4.

I doubt someone would go through the trouble of photoshopping it. This happened last year with the iPhone 4, so it's not a shock to see it happen again this year. Some people just get lucky and get their phones early.

If it's any help, I'm in California, but I'm FROM Kentucky! :)

You're joking, right? Did you notice the photo with the shrink-wrapped iPhone 4S box?

Wow.

The box is photoshopped. That S is clearly at a 32.3 degree angle whereas the side of the box is at a 73 degree angle. It doesn't match up.

You guys need to take some photoshop lessons off of youtube like I do.

As someone asked earlier, does the phone feel snappier?
Definitely snappier. Especially the map function. Went to lunch and let the wife drive, and the maps are so much more smooth than my iP4.

Will get more out of it tonight at home, but for now I can say indeed noticeably faster!

Congrats on your new phone. Don't worry about people like him, there are douches all over this board today. Its called jealousy. I get mine tomorrow which will be neat. I have a Verizon personal one and my Sprint work one also. So I will have two of them to compare with each other with their service and all the fun stuff.

WHOA. WHAT! How is that even...what?!? I am so confused. Did he push an update to your phone directly? Or did he push the update to iTunes which will apply the next time you connect to your computer, like this?

I have so many more questions now haha. Thanks so much for calling man, much appreciated :D
