Am cancelling my ATT order as we speak.

I was told by two AT&T stores that I can't cancel my ordered iPhone until I receive it! How did you cancel your order?!

Over here in Memphis the Apple store's reserve system shows only 64GB versions for AT&T/Sprint, but all Verizon models are available, last two days in a row; I guess Verizon must suck round here?!

The reserve page keeps loading now. Nothing is showing up. Maybe they are updating? Hope so.

Nothing at 9 Mountain Time. Maybe 10 here, since that'll be 9 Pacific.

can anyone give an update on whether they were able to get an off contract at&t iphone 4s through the reservation system?

It's back up now. My store updated and have 64GB versions available but I'm looking for 16GB. :(

The site is seriously messed up right now. Can't even get through to the page to pick my state & store. Reserved one last night for today, but I couldn't make it. Trying again.

It's finally showing. An hour and a half late! No 64 GB in the Calgary area, unfortunately. Very frustrating.

Do they have 16gb white there? I'll buy yours, you buy me mine, and we'll swap! haha

was able to reserve an at&t phone. was anyone able to get an off contract phone without having to give any information?

Why is stock available for Verizon but not AT&T in my area? I thought the 4S was supposed to not have GSM/CDMA versions. One phone to rule them all. Maybe they have to come preloaded with slightly different software.

yes

i tried tonight for more iphones, but none came up.

I want a 64!!!!!!

That's too bad. The apple reservation servers were overloaded and I was having trouble connecting, so reserved a white 64 at the first store in the area that I was able to check. Afterwards, when their website was able to handle more requests, I saw that a closer store had stock, so I reserved another white 64 (using a different Apple ID) at that store so that I didn't have to drive for an hour tomorrow.

If anyone in the San Fran area wants to try for it, the Stonestown Apple Store will have an unclaimed 64GB white Verizon iPhone tomorrow.

Now... I have to figure out how to deal with the fact that I have no social security number (moved down from Canada for work just over a week ago, not eligible to get a social security number until early next week). I have flawless credit in Canada, and my work is paying my cellphone bill while I'm here, but Apple still says that I need to bring it when I pick it up. Should be interesting...

I was able to reserve a White Iphone 4S 64GB at the Walnut Creek Store here in SF Bay Area. Does this mean they will hold the phone for me until the end of the day?

My concern now is that i have an existing pre order through ATT.COM and it shows that i am no longer eligible for an upgrade. could i just call att to cancel and have them make my account eligible again? would that be easy as it sounds?

I need you replies. Thank you!

They will hold it until 6 pm tomorrow. At 6 all reserved phones that are unclaimed are available for walk-in purchases. I don't know enough about AT&T to help, sorry.

Update as requested:

Walked into Apple store at 8am sharp, right when they opened. picked up a new magsafe for my MacBook Pro (last one died, ugh), tried to get an iPhone 4S without a reservation, told me they had Sprint phones available... no AT&T.

Asked about stock, they told me they get new stock every day (though what they get and how much they get may vary)

So I'll be trying to reserve one tonight :p and... i guess, every night until I finally succeed!

To avoid upsetting people that line up everyday when they know that they won't have any stock they tell people not to line up and that there's this fancy new online reservation system. That doesn't mean that there's any more stock, but to avoid people being disgruntled in lines because there's no more iPhones or extremely limited stock.

Yep that is likely a major part of it. Also if it is true that managers can cap the total number of reservations on any given day, they can avoid, or try to avoid, the folks being disgruntled about trying to buy anything else but there's no sales staff, the malls etc that are pissy over the lines, etc

they are probably doing this whole 'reserve for the next day' instead of the old waiting list system to avoid the complaints about how long it was taking (I've been on your waiting list for 3 weeks) or folks claiming they never got the notification and demanding a phone right then. If they are out of stock, you simply can't place a reservation

I heard something a bit different about the whole 6pm thing. What I heard was that they were doing that to get folks to not wait until the last minute because ATT etc shut down their customer service at 9pm on the dot and if there's an issue the sale can't be completed. So to make sure that they get all phones sold by 9pm they absolutely can not start a sale later than 8.30pm, but they prefer no later than 8pm. So telling folks if they aren't in line by 6pm they won't get the phone gets them to come early rather than lag about until the end of the night.

Manager however do have the ability to approve a walk in sale between 6-8pm IF they don't have a line and only of phones that were not on reservation for other customers on a case by case basis.

----------

However, by having people reserve online, it allows Apple to optimize their supply chain and shift that supply to accommodate demand appropriately and efficiently.

That really only works if they allow for a running waiting list, which they are not. If they have 50 units of a sku once they hit 50 reservations no one else can reserve that one. So it really doesn't help them with supply issues.

So I got one reserved. What do I tell them when I go in to pay? I am not eligible right now for the full subsidized price but they will give me a couple hundred off. Obviously I want to have it unlocked. Do I just tell them I am not eligible for upgrade and what to pay full price? I'm guessing they don't really care.

Going to try again tonight for a 64 GB model.

Last night there was nothing up until half past 10. Hopefully tonight things start closer to 9. I keep hearing stories of people being able to reserve one at 5 to 9 (8:55). I wish I were so lucky to get into and somehow manage to reserve one at the time!!

If you want it unlocked you will probably have to pay the full price.

They will either make you pay full price for an unlocked phone, or they will make you pay what the carrier makes you pay before your eligible for an upgrade and your phone will be locked.

Logged in at around 8:52, everything said unavailable
Logged in at around 8:54, they had a few models but not everything.
No black AT&T 32GB, but they had white. I really do not want white :p
They had AT&T 64GB black, but no white.
While I wanted 32GB, I just decided to get a 64.
So I have my reserve for tomorrow!!!

For those of you who have not been able to reserve yet... All you need to know is your apple ID & PW once you click a model you want (as long as it is available) then confirm the day and time.

If you want white, the icon is WHITE so look carefully on the screen. You have to be fast, the models get reserved within minutes!

Australia

Anybody in Australia been trying this reserving system....With any joy ?!

I've looked at the website, as well as the Apple Store App – at various times (both East and West coast) and various stores, just out of interest – the past couple of evenings and there hasn't been anything showing as available...??!

Perhaps it simply means Australia has NO iPhones...!?

Asked in-store at the one store in WA, and they simply said everything goes on the website in the evening, as and when they get them in......

No, Apple probably has to give each carrier a minimum of phones. When the iPhone 4 came out in Canada they had stock for the other two less popular carriers but you couldn't buy for the biggest carrier because they sold out of their allocated stock. Yes, it was irritating.
