Just imagine how much higher than number would be if AT&T had actually shipped ALL their pre-orders! Unless they count an order as a sale...

Ordered Saturday by phone...still waiting...:(

Only 25 million upgraded to iOS 5? In the scheme of things is that a small number (compared to the number of eligeble iOS devices)?

i'm not surprised, i know people that r still on 4.0 with 56 updates waiting on their appstore and dont even know what the word "update" mean. i call them the "toolbar generation". my sister is one of them ...

I think they are counting them. Think of this like announcing that a music concert has sold out even though the show hasn't happened yet. If the ticket's been paid for, it's sold.

And lest you think that's unfair of Apple, it sure beats the methods of some other companies who count devices as 'sold' just because they've been put on a Best Buy shelf, no matter if a customer actually buys it or not. Apple may count the phone you bought but haven't gotten, but they don't count the phone that's on the shelf at the Apple store or the Verizon store.

In addition to record sales, the Apple store I walked by Sunday still had phones for sale in the late afternoon. I remember the 3G and 3GS days where they'd sell out by 10 AM each morning.

Apple has apparently ramped up their production massively over the last few years.

(Or, heck, perhaps they really did start making the 4S back in May and have just been using the extra months to stockpile, rather than spending it on extra design time.)

Could not release it before Siri was a stable enough Beta. :apple:

iOS 5 on my original ipad was a BAD move... The thing is slower than all get out now... I'll bet it works great with the faster CPU but it dogs down the older stuff...

IMO

My original iPad is better than ever with iOS5 on it, but I do miss the multi-touch gestures.

that sucks.. hopefully you will get yours soon.

I was lucky Friday i walked into Best Buy and snagged the last 4S without preordering.

I think Apple is cranking them out this year so hopefully the supplies will meet demand

Hmm 20m iCloud users now. Each get 5gb free. Wonder how many hard drives they racking up for it in their sparkly new data center.

i feel greatly disappointed in t-mobile for not trying to get the iPhone 4s, honestly they messed up by trying to compete with it. Now they have no other choice but to sell themselves over to AT&T or Sprint.:apple:

Man, I'll bet they would have sold more with an iPhone 5, man. :apple:
With record sales with each new iPhone, I'm sure that when the iPhone 5 comes out, they will sell even more.

The 4s more than doubled that of the iPhone 4 in initial sales. Can we expect 8 million with the iPhone 5 when it comes out?

I disagree. Mine feels snappier and the new features are very nice. I especially enjoy the tabbed browsing as opposed to the old system.

if T-Mobile had paid Apple a lot of money to get the iPhone to support their frequencies T-Mobile would have had to make their contracts more expensive. That then defies the point of choosing T-Mobile over ATT.

You would be amazed at how many people never bother to update their phones, which isn't surprising for non-tech people. If it works well out of the box, why tinker with it? My wife's iPhone and MacBook would never get upgraded or backed up if I didn't do it myself.

Overbooking. You think they have 5 GB per user handily available ? ;)

They must have quite a bit though. I think we're reaching close to a petabyte in ours and we're a small scale enterprise compared to a user facing one like Apple.

What makes you think they didn't try for it ?

I went into Best Buy yesterday and had my invisible shield installed on my new white 4s and the iphone accessory shelves were empty. The guy there said it had been crazy!!

Uh, no.

Physical products need to ship. If they don't and you claim it as a sale, the SEC starts getting very curious about your books. It literally needs to leave the loading dock; someone else (e.g., a common carrier like FedEx or the customer) needs to take possession of the item in question.

For something like a concert, the money would be held in escrow until the performance has concluded. Assuming the group performed to all the stipulations in the contract, they would then get paid. If the performance cancels, the money is refunded to the ticket holders (or their tickets are honored for a future date); the group doesn't get paid because they reneged on their contractual obligations.

4 million!

Unbelievable... As far I remember, the reason why Iphone 4 was not sold that much was the capacity constraints, right?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I wonder how many more iCloud users there would be if it was compatible with Snow Leopard. I know I personally won't move from MobileMe to iCloud until it is.

Just asked Siri...

What is 4,000,000 times $500?

The quickly supplied answer: $2.0 billion.

Yes, assuming they gross a minimum of $500 per phone sold, they just took in $2.0 billion in one weekend.

Sorry, should have been more clear I was specifically referring to the guy who had posted about having bought one and waiting for it while it was somewhere in mid-transit. The analogy was just meant to refer to that particular situation.
