To those saying iOS 7 runs fine on the iPhone 4S are incorrect.
Of course it won't run as well as a 5 or 5S and that's because of it's hardware limitations. I think multitasking is pretty poor on iOS 7. Say I am looking at someone's Instagram profile and then suddenly switch to Twitter to read some tweets and then go back to Instagram it will load up the app as new. Yes that's a memory issue, but I don't recall having that problem in iOS 6.
It's a 3 year old phone, so iOS 8 will be definitely feel laggy in some respects.
Having said that, I've sold my 4S and I am using a 3GS temporarily whilst awaiting the 6 and this is EVEN worse lol. But hey, the new phone will be even better having used the 3GS for a little while.
Just Apple's greediness to make us buy new stuff.
Have a 5 on 6.1.4.
This is smart if your usage scenario involves using your device like a mini computer, keeping the most apps open at once. Keeping the device on the iOS it came with gives you the best UI speed and free RAM to hold the most apps in memory. It also gives your device longevity because it prevents new iOS versions from slowing down your device. This keeps your phone performing at its best throughout its life, without performance degradation.
Not really for the 5, it still works perfectly smooth on iOS 8 and you get all the new features. Not to mention the security issue on iOS 6.
Or not, considering the much larger hardware gap between 4 and 4S.Just afraid that the device will turn as slow as the iphone 4 on ios 7. Even the transition animations lags!
I will update to the GM, and downgrade if it's too slow.
This. As of beta 5, it's okay. It certainly got slower than 7.1.
I plan to upgrade to the GM as soon as I can, but if the performance is worse, downgrade back to iOS 7.
Beta performance can and usually is different than final so comparing against betas doesn't really provide good information.Since iOS 8 beta 5 is certainly slower than 7.1, iOS 8.0 GM will probably still be a bit slower than 7.1. I plan to wait and see how iOS 8 and future updates run on other folks' phones.
It's a three year old phone...I would be amazingly impressed with Apple if it wasn't completely slow.Just Apple's greediness to make us buy new stuff.
iOS 7 definitely works a lot better on a 5s however I've never experienced any lag with iOS 7 on my 4s. It has been a solid OS for me and never gave me any issues. For a phone with specs from 2011, it's still doing a pretty good job.
I don't see why iOS 8 should be any different.
Why iPhone 4S did receive an upgrade of the A5 45nm to 32nm like iPad 2 and iPad mini ?
It would have longer battery life and less heat !! My iPhone 4S battery goes up to more than 35 degrees Celsius when I use Internet. Very hot in my hand... And poor compare to iPhone 4S...
But iPhone 4S will have hand free control of Siri ? And handoff or SMS relay ?
You are saying that mobile tablet hardware that is 2 years newer is great while 2 years older mobile phone hardware is just good and that's some sort of a major issue that is unacceptable? Seriously?Yeah. Sure. NO LAGS. NEVER. Pretty good is far far far away from being what it is supposed to be. iPad Air FLIES compared to my iPhone 4s. It's doing a pretty good job, but that's just about it. 4S saved it's ass only because it was the first dual core iPhone. Also, iTunes match is SUCH A PAIN, although i don't know how the music app as a whole works on 5s.

You will be able to call and sms on your mac with an iPhone 4s. You just need a bluetooth 4.0 Mac.

Clearly it said a pretty good job, as you yourself pointed out, which isn't perfect (otherwise perfect would have been used in place of pretty good job).No. My issue with that statement was that it sounded like it was still perfect, no lags whatsoever, super fast etc etc. which is CLEARLY not the case. it's ACCEPTABLE at best.
