I would say that may be the reason why Apple has been so careful about its next iPhone this time around; and also the delay in releasing the iPhone. If Apple needs a separate event to reveal its new iPhone, then the new iPhone must have a pretty substantial upgrade, such as a 4" screen.

Chances of features:

8MP Camera: 100% (Apple known to increase camera MP every upgrade)
New Design: 50% (if 4" screen, then yes; maybe iPad 2 design.)
4" Screen: 65% (Resolution = Three Times 480x320 = 1440x960; Keeping Developers Happy; Resolution Independence.)
RAM Increase: 75% (1GB)
Dual Core Processor: 80% (1.2GHz - 1.4GHz)

I'm hoping for a 5" screen, to go with "iPhone 5" ;)

Okay maybe I don't have too much hope for that, but it'd make my dreams come true.

4 inch screen would be perfect. As we do more with "phones," I think the extra real estate is merited ... if there is minimal impact on the overall phone dimensions. With other possible new features like LTE or NFC, we'll just have to wait and see. There are always tradeoffs for features.

How about 5G speeds and a 5 inch screen to be truly the iphone 5?

I say there's a 0% chance that Apple upgrades the iPhone screen size. Apple just change the resolution of the iPhone 4. Developers had to increase the resolution of their app I don't see them changing the screen two years in a row.

I really wonder where you're getting all these percentage figures from.

8MP and a Dual Core A5 chip is obvious. Everything else is speculation, but yes it is expected that if Apple has taken such a long time to make the iPhone 5, that it will be a substantial upgrade.

I'm hoping for a bigger screen, but still under the magic retina display number of 300. So i believe a 3.8" screen is ideal. I'll take any screen upgrade at this point, as long as it only goes up to 4".

My guess an improved camera, A5 chip and more ram. nothing major but a good evolutionary update.

I played with a Samsung that had a 4" screen today while I was in AT&T. The clarity of the screen was amazing. I would love to have an iPhone with a 4" screen. Apple, you had better wake up!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_8 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E401 Safari/6533.18.5)

Dude- no 5G, no buy!

I don't understand the desire for a bigger screen. The iPhone is pretty large as it is. My current smart phone (Palm Pre) has a 3 inch screen, and I think it's just the right size. The phone is small enough to fit nicely in my pocket/hand, but large enough to still be useful. I'm not a small guy either (6'1", 250 pounds) so it's not like I have tiny hands and pockets.

I'm switching to an iPhone in the near future, but would be very unhappy if the screen were any bigger than the current 3.5 inches. I already don't like keeping my girlfriend's iPhone in my pocket; it's just too big to be comfortable.

What if the form factor was he same but the screen was larger?

I hope the form factory wont change but the screen gets bigger (to the edges)

I just wish if we knew a little bit more on iPhone 5. If it is going to be a iphone 4s i wont buy it :)

Clarity had nothing to do with the size. It's because Samsung phones use Super AMOLED+ screens.

I like the way you think. This makes sense.

Apple will not increase the screen size. If they do so, resolution should change to maintain the pixel density. Apple increased the screen resolution to 960X640 last year and they won't change it in the next revision.
