Or even easier, if you want a larger screen, go buy another phone. Steve has voiced his opinion on this already.

Also voiced that before Android started taking a huge chunk out of the smartphone marketshare. Sooner or later, Apple will have to do more to 'awe' consumers. Better product or not, alot of people still want that 'wow' factor. Screen size isn't just for looks, to me, its huge for the functionality of viewing web pages and maps.

Pretty much. My friend has a Samsung Mesmerize w/ a 4" screen. That phone is still very easily pocketable. BUT if Apple can increase the screen to even 3.8" by keeping the exact overall dimensions, that'd be great. To me and many others I know, the small screen on the iphone is the major turnoff. I'm sure they'd attract more customers by increasing the screen size rather than losing customers due to them increasing it. I'd bank money on that.

Exactly, I think the % of new iPhone5 buyers would be more attracted to a larger screen, that Apple actually losing sales because of a bigger screen. I would bet big money on a screen size increase, but it might just be 3.7" or 3.8", and the very largest we might see is a 4".

I honestly think those wanting a larger screen are just a vocal minority.

I respectfully disagree. I think the sales of some large screen android phones help my opinion. Hell, just tonite my parents are each purchasing 2 new Droid X2s. I tried to sway them towards the iphone, but they want a larger screen. I think screen size matters to alot of people.

Like I said, a larger screen would gain more customers more than they would lose. Hard to argue that.

I've alwasy thought to myself how big the screen could realistically get without making the phone too big as wel, im fine with where it is now but could do away with the black edges in time

Face it. No matter WHAT the screen size is, Apple is still going to sell millions and millions of iPhones. Even if I AM against a bigger screen, I'll probably still update. And those of you that are making a big deal out of a larger screen, you'll also probably upgrade even if if stays the same size.

My prediction:

-Same design as iPhone 4 with coating on antenna
-8MP camera
-dual-core A5 with 1GB ram
-32GB and 64GB of storage

True, however, I don't own an iphone yet. If it had a larger screen, I was 100% going to purchase it. But with the same design, I'm at 50% sure now. The other phone I'm gonna look at is the S2. Apple will retain virtually all their customers, however, I'd like to see them do more to gain new ones and sway us away from android, because as an android user, i recognize iOS as being superior OS. Its give or take with apple vs android. Depends if u weigh more towards software (apple) or hardware (android).

Nope, I didn't forget; I'm basing the tripling of resolution off the original resolution (480x320). iPhone 4's resolution is doubled that, so triple that would be 1440x960.

Increasing the screen size would not require an increase in resolution.

If the screen size is increased, the resolution will remain exactly the same. There is more then enough resolution for a size increse. The GPU that outputs has no idea what physical size screen it is outputting to. The screen could be 12ft by 8ft for all it cares.

And to those who keep quoting the "magic" figure as 300ppi for retina, you usually forget one thing. The 300ppi number was based on holding a 3.5 inch screen at 12inches from your face. The number could easily be redefined as 260-280ppi with a 4inch screen held 14-15" from the face. So the retina moniker remains.

I have a large penis.

The current iPhone is as tight fitting in my pocket as is...a larger (even by 0.1 inch) iPhone would not be suitable for one such as myself....

IMO Apple will not punish those with bigger penises by making a huge phone that necessitates a man purse to carry.

I beg to inquire how some members on macrumors are claiming they can fit a 5",7" phone, iPad, netbooks, Macbook pro, iMac, etc...in their pant's pocket and be comfortable?

Guess some people just have plenty of room to spare in their pants.

You have a large.....imagination.

I bet if the iPhone originally launched with a 4" screen back in '07, nobody would be saying, gee I wish it was smaller like 3.5" instead.

This honestly makes no sense to me.

I can't fathom saying, I know that the OS and software is better on anything, but buying something else because the screen is bigger. The software and OS experience make the whole package up to me.

I guess having been raised by a software developer, who was imagining just last night what it would have been like to write telemetry back in the 70's with an iPhone strapped to satellite (instead of being excited when they gave him the upper 4k), has rubbed off on me.

The best part is - everyone can pick what works for them!!!!

But, having just put my Seidio convert/rugged case on my iP4, I can't imagine a bigger phone in the thing. And, anything i got would be in a case that big - I have kids, my activities warrant the protection.... So I will still vote, don't make it bigger.

I would say that may be the reason why Apple has been so careful about its next iPhone this time around; and also the delay in releasing the iPhone. If Apple needs a separate event to reveal its new iPhone, then the new iPhone must have a pretty substantial upgrade, such as a 4" screen.

Chances of features:

8MP Camera: 100% (Apple known to increase camera MP every upgrade)
New Design: 50% (if 4" screen, then yes; maybe iPad 2 design.)
4" Screen: 65% (Resolution = Three Times 480x320 = 1440x960; Keeping Developers Happy; Resolution Independence.)
RAM Increase: 75% (1GB)
Dual Core Processor: 80% (1.2GHz - 1.4GHz)

If they put in all of the listed features I would be thrilled even if it was another 100:apple:
