I figured this may get lost in the other thread but I've made a new image to test your screen with. Turn brightness all the way up and open the attached photo. No need to save/set as wallpaper etc anymore.

I encourage anyone that doesn't see this problem in normal use to not let it bother you if your screen flickers while viewing this image. This is only to confirm your suspicions about the scan lines if you can already see them and they're causing distress.

My 5S with a yellow tinted screen does not flicker at all. My replacement I got via applecare (with a non yellow tint) flickers insane. What would you do?

If it doesn't show during normal usage, it's probably best to keep it, unless it's a particularly bad one. Mine has the interlacing lines but I barely notice it unless I'm explicitly looking for it. Some screens are worse than others.

Looks like you've officially entered the iPhone display lottery.

Well my original 5S which I have now has a whitish yellowish tint. No flicker.

The replacement 5S in front of me has a more whitish tint, but flickers INSANE with that image. Also if i look closely I see little lines in the blue icons of apps.

Barely noticeable flicker (F2 serial with november manufacture date). In fact I only realized what this thread might be about when I cranked it up to max brightness and put it next to my iPod touch 5G (which has no flicker at all). Funny that an older cheaper model (iPod) would (seemingly) have a better quality display...

What is the serial# correlation for the 5S? Are there any DN serial AT&T out there? Every single one I've ever seen has been F1 or F2. And at the Apple store, all the Verizon phones are DN.

same thing here. i barely notice the flicker, even at full brightness on my DN 5S.

I don't have any flicker on my verizon DN. My friends verizon DN flickers a lot. My dad's AT&T F2 flickers a lot.

We are returning all these phones. My dad who is 53 years old with glasses noticed the crappy screen and this was his first ever smartphone.

No flickering here when I set it as a background (without parallax). But does flicker when using parallax-effect.

What does this say?

Got mine today, but feel like an idiot. Because zo see te vertical lines but my friends don't.

If it doesn't flicker when you open it in safari or image app you don't have screen interlacing. I had a f2 and it was an strobe light with that image. I don't think it flickers on any iPhone 5 with iOs 7 as background. Try pulling up control center see what happens

I recently went through 5 different 5Ss (64GB) here in Spain.

1st and 2nd ones didn't have any flicker or lines (they had other unrelated issues) S/N: F2LL*

3rd, 4th and 5th all had warmer displays with lines and flicker using that image. S/N: F2LL*

I ended up asking for a refund. I hope the next batch comes better.

Just checked.

Mijn flickers shortly (secs) when opening the image. After that, the image looks to be ok. But there are scan lines in the background.

I'm going for a replacement also. Maybe it's a little bit OCD-like ;-p but Apple asks premium money, so I demand premium devices.

What is premium money? Last time I checked, all money is the same.

I saw flickering on my DN (Sprint) model when I set the image as my background. Flickering doesn't occur while doing anything else though.

Just got a device with this interlacing problem from swap in apple store, brandnew boxed unit. c3 serial.

It is a horrible expierence! I can clearly see it in all situations, not only in the ofcourse flickering test picture...

BUT, dear friends, the worst annoying thing is that 3D Games and scenes looking worst on this faulty screens! It somehow deactivates or disables the anti aliasing effect and make games look awfull compared to nice screens! YES it really affects this premium graphics feature and make it look ****** and edge flickering on 3D polygons!

Please check this out!

My DN 5s flickers with the image but it's VERY faint. I don't see lines in normal usage. Should I be concerned? Now I'm not sure if when I see pixels it's really the vertical lines :(

I also got affected by the interlacing problem. This is what happened:

My first iPhone 5S had a serial number that started with C39 and had a perfect screen, no interlacing and flickering at all (I knew where to look at since I had a iPhone 5 with interlaced screen before). After some weeks the glue on the display glass was bad, so the glass moved and I had to go for a repair. Since they can't repair any display defects on the iPhone 5S (thanks to TouchID) they offered me a replacement. The replacement I received had a serial number that started with DNP and had the worst display I have seen in the last few years. The lines were visible everywhere and all the time, which caused me headache and dizziness if I looked at the display for some minutes. I tried the test image and it flickered like hell. So I went back to the Apple Store for a new replacement. Luckily the Genius saw the lines as well and agreed instantly that this should not be. So he switched the iPhone again and my new model had a serial number that started with F2L. It had a slightly better screen than the DNP model but the lines were still visible to me and the test image still flickered. The genius offered me again to replace the iPhone as he still agreed that the display isn't as it should be. I insisted to get a replacement that starts with C again, since my first iPhone was the only one with a good screen. The genius then brought me a replacement with a serial that starts with C39 and tataaaa I finally got an iPhone with a perfect screen again (no visible interlacing lines and no flickering with the test image)!

I checked almost every iPhone 5S and also 5C in my local Apple Store (I tried like 20 phones and also 2 personal phones of 2 geniuses) and ALL of them had the interlaced lines and flickering! Also interesting was that all of these phones had serial numbers that started with F or D, there was no one with a C serial number.

The genius was really surprised that almost every screen got this issue and he agreed that there must be a serious quality issue with the new iPhone screens. He promised me he will report this internally to Apple/his bosses but couldn't tell me what/if Apple will do about this in the future.

So far I'm happy I got a good screen again and I was really happy with the genius since he took my problem with the iPhone seriously since the beginning and tried everything to find a solution. But on the other hand I'm really disappointed with Apple. I payed a lot for this phone (I bought it without contract) and for that price I expect a far better quality.

Flickers on my 5S, but I can't see scan lines on my display. What does this mean ?

Mine flickers on this image........my solution is to not look at this image :)

Being serious though, I don't notice a flicker on other stuff only images of this kind and shade.

Intense flicker on my 5.

Never noticed anything odd until I did this test though. I blame you.

I like thread like this on MR forum ...
A lot of people without problem in real usage who is desperately looking for a problem in a test that nothing has to do with normal usage.
