I just activated my iPhone5 that was ordered through Apple and delivered earlier today. I started the activation on the phone itself and told it to restore from my iTunes back up. I plugged it in and started the backup. iTunes made me enter my billing zipcode and last 4 of my ssn (even though I had done that on the phone) and it said it couldn't activate. So I unplugged and replugged it in and iTunes asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new phone or restore so I restored. When the phone booted back up, it showed "AT&T M-Cell 4G" up top. I made a call and verified that it works

I also put in in airplane mode for a minute and took it off. Signal said searching for about 5 seconds and then immediately said M-Cell again up top

Going to Settings -> General -> About , it shows AT&T MicroCell for Network

just picked up new sim on way home and iphone 4 is working fine. would also love to see pics of the cut down version so my my 5 will work with microcell.

This is such a joke. They should have been fully prepared for this. And that's BS that their microcell service is down or that they were updating it and something went wrong. My 4S was running ios6 w/ it this morning just fine. They know it's 5-specific, they just don't want to look so stupid.

It sounds like they prepared about as much as our government would.

Word on other forums is the fix is rolling out now.

Try Airplane mode, then back.

Personally it's not working for me yet (SoCal) but it seems to be getting fixed for some.

I tried the Airplane Mode fix... no luck.

I also tried to toggle LTE... no luck.

Not working in San Diego.

Why not blame Apple? They were the ones that designed a new nano sim specification. They do have a record of breaking compatibility with older devices.

Personally I'm not really 'blaming' anyone but I was to choose I'd blame AT&T. They've obviously had these nano sims for awhile and should have prepared for the rollout.

Okay I think I figured it out my 5 did not show M Cell. My sons 5 came in and his did. Go figure so looking at network his said AT&T M cell. Mine just said AT&T . Now I went in and reset my network connections once before it did not work so I did it again and bingo it came up with M-cell. So you may have to do it twice. You will have to log in again on your wifi since it gets wiped each time.

I tried resetting the Network Settings 10 times and still nothing.

No Microcell-But Phone Does Not Show 4G icon on Wifi

I don't have a Microcell. However, one thing I've noticed at home is the the 4G logo at the top of the screen only shows when I'm out of range of my home wifi. Is it possible my phone is using my Airport Extreme like a Microcell? Please don't fit me for an aluminum tin foil hat yet.

I'm not trying to jack the thread. I'm just wondering if this is related to the OP's problem somehow.

Definitely not but thx.

I had the same problem. Tried resetting network settings, no go! After I did this I went into the MicroCell configuration and removed and re-added by mobile number, power cycled by iPhone 5 and when it reconnected I had MCell service. It must have something to do with re-registering the phone. Good luck!

Did you power cycle your MCell as well?

Didn't work for me although I was not able to remove the main line/# associated with my account. The other 3 lines I deleted and then added back in, rebooted....no MCell.

I no longer have problems with connecting..

I went to the AT&T Micro Cell management page (https://www.att.com/3gmicrocell/unauth/login.do?target=FOAMM) and disconnected my Micro Cell. Once it was disconnected, I logged out of the management page and re-logged back in, but this time it took me to an activation screen. I then went through the steps of entering my Micro Cell serial and other misc. info, and activated. The whole process took about 15-20 minutes. Once the Signal symbol was solid and the status page said the Micro Cell was successfully reactivated, I powered on my iPhone 5 and it now gets the Micro Cell notification at the top. That seemed to have done the trick!

Apparently the issue is in the North East USA.

I live in the North East USA, and can verify that I did have problems this morning. But now I'm good (see above)

I guess you don't need LTE if you're on a microcell since you're probably connected through WIFI anyway. I guess I shouldn't care as much if they come out with an LTE Microcell.

FINALLY!

I think they're pushing out a fix because more people are having luck (myself now included).

I unplugged the MCell for 1 minute or so. Turned on Airplane mode during this time.

Turned the MCell back on. Waited until it was fully up and running. Turned off Airplane mode. At first, no luck. Waited ~2 minutes and BAM.. MCell on iPhone5.

Good luck!

****fix here***

I been all day messing with my stupid Microcell. So pissed off at AT&T right now.
The fix is so simple i should of tried it first!!!

The Goods: iPhone 5, pre-ordered from Apple with Stock Nano card.

Tried the following:
- Rebooted Microcell
- Rebooted iPhone
- Turned off LTE on iPhone
- Reset all Network settings on iPhone
- Deleted and Reinstalled completely setup again microcell as recommended above.
- Stood on my head
- Did the Gangnam Style dance
........STILL NOTHING

***Fix that worked for me***
1) while the phone screen is on....
2) eject the SIM card (using a staple or extraction tool).
3) When the pop-up says "no SIM inserted" (or something), dismiss the popup.
4) wait 1-2 minutes, reinsert SIM
5) VOILA, M-CELL appeared.

Whole day wasted with a simple last minute of desperation, thinking it "couldn't" be that.

Moral of the story:
AT&T continues to live up to their terrible customer service reputation.

Hope this helps someone (or everyone)...please let me know

If anyone wants a screenshot, i can post one.
