I got mine fixed last night by doing the following:

1. Turned off iPhone
2. Unplugged Microcell (waited 5 minutes--not 10 seconds)
3. Plugged Microcell back in (waited for all green lights)
4. Put iPhone 5 next to Microcell and turned it back on
5. iPhone connected about 2 to 3 minutes later.

The above worked, but if it didn't, I was going to disconnect/re-register the M-Cell.

It's back; FINALLY. I was able to re-register the MCell via Manage Settings. Rebooted the MCell and now I'm good on all phones. It was definitely on AT&T's registration process end.

There are several people who have tried that and it doesn't work. Please read the thread before responding. It is a known issue with AT&T. They claim they are working on a fix, but we'll see...

Not to be rude, but AT&T reps will say, "its a known issue" as soon as more than 1 person calls on it. Just because a rep says something doesn't make it so. Until AT&T provides a written response to an issue, I'll take what the reps say with a grain of salt.

That is the correct answer.

AT&T pushes software and firmware updates during the night. Sometimes it takes up to a week for all the Microcells to update.

One can force the update by rebooting the Microcell and letting it restart.

You really don't have to have your iPhone next to it but it doesn't hurt.

Also you may need an additional step.

IF the iPhone doesn't connect to the Microcell, reboot the iPhone.

Last night, I rebooted my Microcell.

My phone connected and my wife's phone did not. She rebooted and her's connected.

My microcell & iPhone 5 are now playing together.

I did not:
  • tinker with the sim card
  • modify the network settings on my iPhone 5
  • login to the microcell administration settings online to re-register the device or remove my phone number from the list of approved numbers

Here's what worked for me.
  1. I unplugged my Microcell & powered it back on after 5 seconds
  2. I waited a few minutes for the Microcell to re-boot & confirmed that all of the status lights were back up entirely
  3. I powered down my iPhone 5
  4. I waited a few minutes & turned my iPhone 5 back on.
  5. After my iPhone 5 re-started it did not recognize the Microcell right away but after around 5 minutes it showed M-Cell.

My advice is to follow these steps & be patient. My next mission is to figure out the best shared data plan for my family which includes a 7-year old who won't ride in the car for 2 blocks without wanting to connect to Netflix.

Yesterday afternoon, before i stumbled on this thread, I did something similar as the above and my iPhone 5 has paired with the microcell with no difficulty :)

Simple reset network settings worked for me. Don't know why you'd need to reset a brand new device ...

Tried re-actiavting my micro cell last night. Woke up this morning and its still not activated. No phones are connected to it, so its definitely not working at all now.

MCell is Working

I went to bed last night with no connection between my iP5 and MCell. Woke up this morning and it's connected. I did not do anything, ie no rebooting the MCell, phone, reregistering, no nothing.

Same here. AT&T must have patched something in the middle of the night.

I have the following on my MicroCell with the service noted:
iPhone 3GS - Connected and working on MicroCell
iPhone 4 - Connected and working on MicroCell
iPhone 4S - Connected and working on MicroCell
iPhone 5 - Will not connect to MicroCell
I will continue to monitor and report any changes.

As an update. I gave up waiting for AT&T to push an update or do some other magic. I went ahead and deactivated my MicroCell and re-activated as noted in this thread. After a prolonged activation process I can report that all of the iPhones noted above are on the MicroCell connection.

Mine seems to be working fine as soon as I walked in. Had my phone activated in store.
Did u try removing your phone number on the account page and readding it?

I no longer have problems with connecting..

I went to the AT&T Micro Cell management page (https://www.att.com/3gmicrocell/unauth/login.do?target=FOAMM) and disconnected my Micro Cell. Once it was disconnected, I logged out of the management page and re-logged back in, but this time it took me to an activation screen. I then went through the steps of entering my Micro Cell serial and other misc. info, and activated. The whole process took about 15-20 minutes. Once the Signal symbol was solid and the status page said the Micro Cell was successfully reactivated, I powered on my iPhone 5 and it now gets the Micro Cell notification at the top. That seemed to have done the trick!

I live in the North East USA, and can verify that I did have problems this morning. But now I'm good (see above)

This worked for me and I'm now connected to the Microcell. I previously tried removing the sim card, dismissing the "No sim" message, waiting a couple of minutes and re-inserting, but with no luck.

For what its worth, I've been following this thread since it's creation (I posted on the first page also). I am in the Northeast and have tried every suggestion here EXCEPT for the deactivate/reactivate microcell (restart phone, reset network settings, reboot microcell, just waited overnight for update, airplane mode, cellular on/off, LTE on/off, pull sim, "wait it out" etc.) in just about every combination.

As I initially posted, I am a number on no less than 8 microcells but I "own" and am the primary on only two of them. I really didn't want to deactivate/reactivate because of the extensive number list and again, if this was the only solution, it is going to be a huge process for all the other microcells I am not the primary/owner/manager of.

**Punchline** - I finally gave in and deactivated/reactivated mine just a little bit ago. It took about 15 minutes to deactivate and reactivate and get the txt that says it has been activated. Less than a minute after getting the txt, my phone finally picked up the microcell. I'm not sure if this is because I'm the primary/non-removable number on the account and so deactivate/reactivate was the only option, but it is very much the only option that worked for me, and I really had tried them all. Not saying this is the fix for everyone as evidence from this whole thread, but for me as the primary number on a microcell, deactivating/reactivating gave me almost immediate results when nothing else has.

Good luck to those still waiting for their microcell service.

Deactivated my Microcell and reactivated. It took about twenty minutes, most of which was on the software update step, my iPhone 5 now connects to it and displays it great. Thanks guys.

same here ive tried everything on a side note att still list me as having a 4s and i cant even manually change it to the 5 because they dont list it as an option? maybe this has something to do with it?

Deactivate then re-activate your M-Cell.

Try deactivating and then re-activating again. That process seems to be working for everyone today.

My 4 isn't connecting either....

I know most issues are with the 5, but I have the iPhone 4 (5 on it's way) but I too don't see my micro-cell on the top next to my signal indicator anymore. I checked my connections. My Ethernet line was missing the clip, but I fixed that and rebooted both the micro-cell and my phone. Still not showing micro-cell.....

Not sure if doing the deactivate/reactivate will work or not. Anyone else with a 4 with the same issue?

Edit: Now it's working. Maybe it just took time to connect after plugging it back in.

I don't think it matters which phone you have. The issue is/was with the M-cells. I have an ip5, 2 4s's and 1 ip4. None of them were able to connect to the M-Cell last night.
