Oh I must disagree with most the comments on here, if that is indeed how the next iPhone is going to be I am sold! I really like the dark metal ban and think the two tone back looks quite sleek. It wil make a nice change to my 2 year old iP4 when it does come along.

Fingers crosses these rumours are true!

I've been holding out for an iPhone 5. I skipped 4 and 4S because they didn't seem to offer much more than my aged 3G. I'm hoping that this will be something special otherwise I think the Samsung Galaxy Note looks very tempting.

Sure?

I'm laughing at people who run around and phone with their galaxy note... It looks like a big board they're trying to push towards their whole face... Actually you can't figure out if it's somebody you know or not. :):):) It's pretty funny.

Note (not galaxy note:)):
If you're still on the 3G, which is a nice phone, just try a 4S for 2 days. You'll never give it back...

First, did no one else notice the "motherboard-esq" lines all over the metallic portion of the back plate as seen from the inside? I remember noticing them on some of the original leaked photos and thinking they were lines left over from the machining process, but after seeing them on this video, I'm convinced they're some sort of internal wiring laid inside the plate to accommodate the transmission of power and/or data. Is the back plate a big antenna? Or less likely, touch sensitive?

Secondly, what's with the complete and utter silence from Apple? If this part is legitimate, it's almost as revealing as the stolen iPhone 4 prototype from 2010. While it's not a working phone, it's more than enough to expose virtually every single change to the 6th gen iPhone, including what it's going to look like. While sending out take down requests all but confirms the legitimacy of a leak, it's never stopped them in the past. At very least, you'd expect to hear about Apple going after those who sold, and purchased, this "leaked" back plate, but as days go by and various blogs continue posting increasingly detailed photos and videos, we have yet to read or hear anything from the guys in Cupertino. Very strange.

Please see my post above.

Consider, all tech companies sign NDA's (non-disclosure agreements) protecting trade secrets. When you sign one with Apple you do it because you're making a boat load of cash after winning a supply contract.

You also know that Apple is famous for enforcing NDA's, with what must an entire portion of its in-house legal counsel (all with NDA's in their contracts, FYI) looking over the web for any leaks. I could link to prove this, but I think if you're on this board you probably have seen this often enough.

What happens when real leaks happen? They are immediately pulled from the web, or Apple sends a swat team (seriously...remember Gizmodo-gate).

These are very likely fakes. Either that, or Apple has completely changed how they handle leaks.

Considering Apple is going to be changing the aspect ratio of the screen (rumored), you are expecting developers to only be given 2 weeks to test out iOS 6 beta before it is certified GM the following week for mass distribution?

Not including the first iPhone, every iPhone since has been released 2-3 months after iOS has completed its beta testing, that takes time.

Prior to last year, every iPhone has been released in the June/July. With that being said, this design is starting to grow on me. I've been due for an upgrade since February, and the sleep wake button on my iPhone 4 is broken, so the sooner this comes the better! Plus after seeing this video, this design is starting to grow on me.

I'm ready with my credit card!

Bought iPhone1 imported as soon as I could find one, skipped the 3G and bought the 3Gs on launch day and skipped 4 and also 4s since 4s didnt really offer that much compared to 4. Really looking forward to getting the 5, my 3Gs battery sucks and is getting very slow and my friends pictures from their phones just look so much better. :apple:

With all these leaks flying about i think the new iPhone will be announced at WWDC.

fake ? NO

early prototype ? MAYBE

Even if it were a prototype, why would such a supplier risk losing their Apple contract to build such things?

Apple doesn't comment on fakes. They do take action against leaks. ...At least historically. Unless there has been a radical change in how things are done, they're fake.

That two tone back... Still undecided about it. Especially if Apple will still offer white! Yuck, ugly! Will have to see it in person. Still images and even this video still don't do it (foe me at least). Again, have to se it in person.

We haven't seen many leaks this cycle (so far). WWDC is for iOS 6, if the next iPhone were about to be released they'd have been in full production for weeks if not months by now.

When they go into production expect the usually blurry-cam shots hastily taken by low paid factory workers looking to make a pay day. And the shots will be of full-assembled phones.

Just going by what I've seen before.

If the Samsung S3 was just a stretched version of the S2 and slightly slimmer, we'll all be here laughing are asses off at the lack of innovation in the new design...

but as it's Apple, we can forgive them, even though its taken them two years to get here

Queue the down rates for speaking the truth.

Is it possible that the backplate new iPhone is similar to the PS Vita. I've always dreamed using a back touch screen for a mobile OS. It would instantly kill all other mobile gaming platforms like 3ds vita or any smartphone. Think about it we need bigger screens because our thumb cover half the screen, if you use a touch back panel, we would not obstruct our view.

I am not sure if you actually used the Vita yet. But the back touch screen is horribly inaccurate. Simply because you can't see your fingers to ensure you are touching the right spot.

For everyone who says it "has to be real because no one can make parts like that"

This guy made a pretty good part...

Plus eTrade Supply is a parts manufacturer... I think they could pull off a fake.
Also... why would they make this video if it was real? They would lose their Apple contract be sued for 5 lifetimes. And if it's not theirs... how did they get it?
And why isn't Apple taking down their site which SELLS the "iPhone 5" parts.
Also it's a two toned back. That should scream fake or prototype right there.

These guys are just trying to reproduce Apple designs (maybe off of actual schematics) in order to get publicity and a Samsung contract.

.

I'm thinking inductive charging.

I'd like to direct your attention to the iPod Touch... and also the first 5 generations of the iPod Nano.

Yes... headphone jack on the bottom.

:D It is exceptionally difficult to turn these things upside down, isn't it? Having run with my touch a number of times with Nike+ before swapping to an Android and Runkeeper, it's really no inconvenience at all -- and it's not as if a runner's inconvenience would make Apple change design. That concept is also pretty funny.

Looks real to me. As has been said, if that's a fake, it's a great one. Hope Cricket/Virgin Mobile/etc get the 5 on release.

Wow, the syllogistic skillz on the forum boggle sometimes, don't they?

This seems very legitimate to me. Obviously Apple would make the whole phone a single metal unibody if they could, but that would kill radio signals in and out.

This looks like a workable compromise between a unibody design (back plate and sides are a single machined piece) and having external insulated antennas. The top and bottom parts of the band are probably the cell radios and the WiFi and Bluetooth will probably go behind the glass panels in the back.

The current iPhone design has a metal frame inside that the logic board, battery, etc. mount to for strength. With this design everything would mount straight to the unibody back piece. That means more internal room for battery.

It's funny to see people making the same "Apple would never do something like that!" comments that people made when the iPhone 4 design leaked.

So why would these guys spend time to fake something like this?

First off, they aren't showing the expensive stuff. No LCD, no motherboard, no new chips.

Second, what they are showing appears to be an aluminum frame--something that could be punched out by a non-OEM phone parts maker rather easily (one would assume).

Third, the design closely follows fan and fan-site mockups.

But regardless, this took some amount of time and effort, why do it? Is it a sort of proof of concept hoping to land a big time phone contract in the future?

What doesn't make much sense is that they would risk blowing their Apple contract NDA's or, someone with an NDA risked their contract to show the real deal to the knock-off parts maker.

I don't buy it.

Just a wild guess! Just like the ps vita, the two tone may reflect a multi touch back pad! :)

OMG! I love tour theory! It would be sickkk!! I'm sure that's what it is now! There have been patents on this + the back does look like a magic trackpad!

Nice use of the word syllogistic. Too bad you followed that with a pluralization of skill spelt with a z. But... no one is perfect.

Wasn't the point of the band antenna of the iPhone 4/s would be to get rid of the backplate antennas?

Why would they have a band... plus antennas on the top and/or bottom?

If the new iPhone is this far along in production, what does everyone think of a sooner than October launch?

It won't launch until late September or October. Apple's pattern is to announce the new version of iOS around 3 months in advance of it's release, so that developers can write and test apps for the new OS. Since iOS 6 is expected to be announced and released as a developer beta next week, you're looking at mid-September or later before it's release.

New iPhones are always released within a few days of a new iOS version because new iPhones have new features, which require a new iOS version.

Don't like the headphone jack on the bottom, is fine on the top imo. Otherwise I have to have my phone upside down in my pocket if I have the headphones/earphones coming out.

If the new iPhone is this far along in production, what does everyone think of a sooner than October launch?

Exactly what I was going to post. I don't remember iPhone part leaks this large happening 4 months before prior iPhone releases. This type of leak in the past has been weeks/month before a release.

I also don't remember part leaks like this turning out to be fakes.

Finally, it was long rumored that the iPhone 5 was SUPPOSED to be released when the 4S was released, but then it was pulled back as it wasn't quite ready, and they pushed out a 4S. So this phone has been in development for an awfully long time.

It is very plausible to me that a phone that was targeted for release in Oct 2011, and one that has full parts starting to appear on the web, and a new OS made for it ready for release in one week, just MIGHT be out in the coming weeks/months. Certainly before October.
