So why would these guys spend time to fake something like this?

First off, they aren't showing the expensive stuff. No LCD, no motherboard, no new chips.

Second, what they are showing appears to be an aluminum frame--something that could be punched out by a non-OEM phone parts maker rather easily (one would assume).

Third, the design closely follows fan and fan-site mockups.

But regardless, this took some amount of time and effort, why do it? Is it a sort of proof of concept hoping to land a big time phone contract in the future?

What doesn't make much sense is that they would risk blowing their Apple contract NDA's or, someone with an NDA risked their contract to show the real deal to the knock-off parts maker.

I don't buy it.

views and clicks on their site = $$$$$$$
also perfect free viral marketing, they didnt show their brand name in the back of the video for no reason

same reason those 3rd party repair stores always post "drop test" videos on youtube etc

Under the iPhone lettering on every iPhone has the "designed by apple in california" and the other icons and text etc...

Why wouldn't this even if it is a prototype the iPhone 4 prototype found in a bar had them.

Because iPhones like other electronics go through the FCC, and have other regulatory writing on the back. This one more than likely hasn't visited the FCC yet.

Of course it doesn't show LCD or any silicon - that only tends towards evidence that it IS fake.
Of course it's going to follow fan site mock ups, what better way to get people believing such bull?
You're right, it doesn't make sense someone would blow their NDA - because there wasn't one. Apple don't persue fake designs.

To counter all the people who say they like the headphone jack at the top, I'm glad the headphone jack may be at the bottom now. Why?.........maybe because it'll finally be outt the way now!

I like the overall design- especially the dark aluminum. It being longer and the two tone back doesn't bother me either. The iPhone headphone jack is obviously going the same route as the iPod, which makes sense.

I'm really not looking forward to that new connector port, though. This will instantly break compatibility with billions of dollars in accessories and peripherals. My mate and I have two Bose sound docks, one for at home and one for my office. So unless I stick with my iPhone 4 (and he stays with his 4S), we'll have to buy new stereos? New everything? It's not the same as a port positioning issue, which the iPods went through repeatedly over numerous revisions and models. I can't see all these 3rd party vendors issuing dongles.

Also remember that Apple has used the same port connector for years. If this is changing with the iPhone, you can bet that all iPods will be released this fall with the new connector as well. There is going to be mountains of e-waste from this simple change.

Frustrating to say the least.

Lets not forget the fundamental purpose or a cell/mobile phone is.... to be a phone

Errrrr.......not amongst most of the people I know. I make or receive an old fashioned "phone call" maybe once a week at the very most? It's a nasty intrusive habit for older people and will die out. Phones are now all about email, text, Facebook, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram and so on. Not sure I can even remember my own ringtone.

People keep griping about hating the possible taller screen but the world got it's knickers in a major twist when the 4 to 4S was a non-existent visual upgrade. Apple need to make a serious visual change to the iPhone 5. The most obvious is a larger screen.

They know the punters want their friends to immediately realise they have the "NEW" model. Something has to change - it cannot simply be a 4S that runs quicker etc this time.

So screen could be bigger or smaller (nobody wants a smaller screen). If they make it both taller AND wider it is gonna start turning into a brick.

This seems very logical to me. Will be great for films in the new 16:9 format and you get a bit more space for other stuff. Pain in the arse for developers but that is their problem.....at first we will just get black bands on the older APPS.

Having a different finish front and rear makes sense to me. Always fiddly trying to orientate your phone from the pocket. Is it upside down or back to front? We have glossy now - so let's go matte.....your friends will be able to see the difference!!

I also think this is legit myself - but we shall see.

I've just been on the website

http://www.etradesupply.com, the company that has the parts.

I downloaded one of the images and has anyone noticed what looks like the word "FAKE" printed on it. It actually doesn't say FAKE, but a quick glance.

I've high lighted it

Pulled another Steve

Maybe Apple has decided to pull another late Steve Revenge. Remember the iPhone 5 that didn't show up as the leaked design would have Suggested. I bet that Steve had a last laugh at the successful STING that they pulled on part of there Suppliers which don't follow NDA's. A number of the Case builders are no longer in the market because they followed a false lead and went bankrupt. Send the leak a probable design and see if they leak. Then you know who is not going to be part of your Supply chain.
The best way not to be part of Apples Success if you can't hold your trap.
:D:D:D

I am so sure this leaked video is not a fake that I am changing my avatar to reflect what I believe is the NEW iPhone.

(I hope i don't look foolish when it really comes out)......

Exactly what I was going to post. I don't remember iPhone part leaks this large happening 4 months before prior iPhone releases. This type of leak in the past has been weeks/month before a release.

Didn't the 4S' frame leak in February 2011?

There was leak exactly like this for the 4S, months before it was released.

If they're going to release this iPhone earlier, they're probably going to do it in September, they need to give iOS 6 beta testers some time.

It is very plausible to me that a phone that was targeted for release in Oct 2011, and one that has full parts starting to appear on the web, and a new OS made for it ready for release in one week, just MIGHT be out in the coming weeks/months. Certainly before October.
[/I][/B]

Well, assuming these parts are production and not prototype, not fake, sure it's possible. I don't agree this phone was targeted for Oct '11, but that is beside the point because the real question is not whether the phone is ready for an announcement next week, but whether such release fits Apple's schedule.

Apple releases products fairly evenly though out the year to keep sales growth from precipitously dropping. So I only see Apple announcing the actual hardware, not just iOS 6 next week if it has something else really big to announce in the 4th Quarter or early 1st. Historically, Apple has previewed a new iOS separately from the next iPhone. They are usually two exclusive events.

There is SO much going on Monday: iOS 6, OS X 10.8, new Macs, presumably a whole lot of 'em, and a key note can only go on for so long. Also I don't see Apple blowing it's entire product-line wad in one shot mid-way into the year. The iPhone is Apple's biggest money maker. It's going to want to give it it's own party.

I'm sure Apple will allow backwards compatibility with all the old port connector devices..... for the small fee of $39 for the new adaptor!

Don't like the headphone jack on the bottom, is fine on the top imo. Otherwise I have to have my phone upside down in my pocket if I have the headphones/earphones coming out.

Yes, but think about it
If the phone is in a pocket around your wait then your hand is naturally facing down, fingers towards the ground, as you go to grasp a phone, or anything.

As you raise your hand up to head height your hand is now also rotated, fingers toward the sky, and the phone is the right way up.

Its a more natural way to grasp something and bring it up to your face/ear to use.

think about a knife.

The blade points down, your hand is pointing down ad you grasp the handle.
You then stand facing something in front of you with the knife in your hand and the blade is now pointing upwards.

It makes perfect sense the new way round.

Liking the refinements so far. I can't quite tell if there is a slight bevel or not on the edges. Hopefully there is. The sharp angles o. The 4/4S make the iPhone a bit uncomfortable to hold without a case.

With the new iPhone looking even better I really don't want to put a case on it.

+1

A different design is my #1 desire for the New iPhone. Although the 4/4S looks great sitting on a table, it isn't as comfortable to hold as the 3G.

Oh don't get me wrong, all those things at great. Buy couldn't they have kept one solid material or color on the back?
Couldn't they have made the iPhone 4/4S metal frame without gaps? No, because the gaps are needed to keep the different antennas separate. Same thing here, the different materials at the back have a functional role of keeping antennas separate.

I don't understand why everyone is jumping the gun and automatically assuming these parts have leaked and are part of the official iPhone 5.

This seems like a fake

I think that the dock connector port is TOO small, it just looks wrong too me, but the major thing that makes me doubt this is the lack of a noise cancelling mic.
I guess it could be along the bottom there but it's pretty cramped along there, this is just too convenient.

Steve will introduce the iPhone 5 in surprise "One More Thing"

Long shot I know, but anyone think Steve recorded a video to introduce the iPhone 5 (or another pet project i.e. Apple's solution to the TV problem)?

If I knew my time was short, and my baby project was in production- I'd record a "final keynote" and have it revealed by Tim as a "ONE MORE THING"

Talk about getting press- and this would be so up his alley, I'd think.
