Comparison

Eat that Google.

But Apple is catching up. Isn't this a catchup? An unreleased iPhone model is faster than previously-released Android-based phones. The iPhone 4S was slower than those Android models. Apple is catching up here. They won't be ahead for long on this.

Galaxy S3, a 2012 phone, and iPhone 5, also a 2012 phone.

I think it's a fairer comparison than the 4S vs S3 comparisons people have been doing the past few months.

its then one **** of a processor...the point here is that iphone 5 is indeed a better phone then s3 as opposed to what all samsung lovers are crying.

It's insignificant. Pretty soon, Samsung will counter with an even faster phone. It keeps going.

Sadly, not impressive:

Iphone 5 (1601 points):

Galaxy S3 4-core, 1GB (Non-US version) (1847 points):

Galaxy S3 2-core, 2GB (US version) (1683 points):

The S3 scores (just like the iPhone 4S scores and no doubt the upcoming iPhone 5 scores when lots of people start running the test) is all over the place, a lot of people obviously run this tests with lots of stuff going on in the background that impacts the result.

We are talking about dual core vs quad core/ 1gb ram vs 2gb ram. The A6 is pretty impressive buddy.

That's a helluva upgrade in processing power. I am going to have to keep my ass out of the Apple store. Bigger screen, faster processor... I know if I hold one I'll want one.

"dual core A6 beats quadcore Exynos 4412"

looks like most people on macrumors dont know the difference between Cortex A15 and Cortex A9. LOL!

Better phone? Even if it's faster (although there is proof that it might not be faster) it still may not make it better. Since their performance is comparable, what makes a phone better here is personal preference.

not again.... most of these iphone vs android phones debates end with these two words -" personal preference ".

Holy Cow, that'll be quicker than a dual core G5 1,8 GHz - and that thing weighs almost 40 pounds and needs it's own powerplant to run. I expected something around 1000-1200 but 1600 would be seriously impressive.

...

Just wait until they compare the GPUs I am sure the A6 will be even more favourable in that test

That's not how phones operate in the real world.

Apple's "fake" multitasking is a feature for me, not a lack of a feature. I like that it intelligently allocates resources automatically.

Why should I need to close a bunch of programs to get my phone to work? I just want it to work.

Your post reminds me of using a PC, where you have to constantly monitor background tasks and bloatware. I don't want to do that. That's why I have a Mac. I don't want to constantly monitor what's going on in my phone. I want to unlock it, have it work for a minute, and then put it back in my pocket.

I don't ever want to think about background tasks. That's just an extra level of stress. THIS IS A PHONE, not a car or desktop computer.

You think every android user monitors whats happening with their OS because true multitasking exists? LMAO!

My dad whos 52 years old has had his first and only smartphone (Samsung Nexus S) for about 9 months and his experience with it has been nothing short of amazing. Your argument is moot. Even I as a power user (unlocked, rooted and flashed MyTouch 4G) dont bother your so called 'constant monitoring'

so sick of people pathetically going on and on about android on these forums, you can't go 3 posts without getting some smart mouth guy who joined the forums last week starting a petty argument, clearly only here to try and annoy the hell out of people.

This site used to be about having reasonable discussions, and mostly had people asking for help with their apple devices, as well as speculation from people who've followed apple for a long time, and care about the company.

It's sad to see these forums become something that they shouldn't be :(

iPhone5,2 GeekBench score with a sample set of 1. FRONT PAGE NEWS!!! Let's get a larger sample set before we call the presses!

This.

In a few weeks when we will have hundreds of samples from the iPhone 5 we will have a more real world impression. Unlike this one test - that is run strictly by the book by the creators of the test - a lot of the tests run by regular users are run under less than favorable conditions.

Just look at all the different results for the Galaxy S3 or iPhone 4s. They have a wide span of results even though they theoretically should be as good as identical within each device if the tests had been run under identical conditions.

Its not hard for iPhone to score nicely when iOS is such a primitive mobile OS. Add the fact that it doesnt have multitasking and theres no reason for it to score low.

Disable all your background tasks, remove all widgets getting on the iPhones level and then post your results.

That was with all widgets disabled and I made sure nothing was running in the background.

i have a MBP an iPad and 5 iPhones and now im on Android and this makes me an Android Troll? HAHA

No it just makes me far more experienced and balanced than 90% on this forum.

Experienced and balanced? Dual core and 1gb of ram is almost equal to quad core and 2gb ram? Buddy just give credit where credit is do.
