Aaaaarrrggh shoulda listened to my gut instinct.....THERE IS NUTHN WRONG IN PICKING A GIRLY COLOR

But there is something wrong with your grammar...

With all this talk about white being a girly color, does that mean all white people are girly?

I Buy the phone b.c of the way it looks...not to put a retard case on it. If it does fall "insurance" gives you peace of mind....just like insurance in any other form in the world. Should I drive w/o insurance too....

question I am having is what will Apple consider normal wear and not replaceable?

that is the worst justification I have ever seen. That is like your TV being blurry and you saying....well as you age your eyes do.

Haha...exactly. If my phone has slate that chips off (and i baby the **** out of my phones) im going to be pissed.

The black model is the best looking phone to date, however the moment you forget and put it in your pocket with your keys or coins the metal (al) back is done. Its surely one phone thats going to look beat real fast like....

Do you mean for free? If you use applecare+ you can say whatever you want and they will give you a new one (deductible of course)....and honestly, I do not think they are going to just replace these phones for free b.c the chipping. I think they will in fact call it normal wear and tear, or else they would be replacing a **** ton of phones.

well i just saw the orange nano at the apple store, and scratches are everywhere! unlike the iphone 4s sitting next to it which has minimal scratches.

if black iphone5= nano 6th then ill go with white

I would not base my concerns about scuffing/scratching based on what you see at the Apple store. Have you ever been to the Fifth Ave. Apple store? At any given moment there are 30 kids in there with their grubby hands all over devices, tossing them around without care.

And I agree with others about the Pocket Lint review. That thing looks like it was dropped or banged against something. Also take a look at Engadget's video review. There are splotches of stuff all over the front glass of that guy's review unit. Take care of your stuff people.

if you page through Pocket Lint's photos. It somehow looks like they dragged it on its corner on a sidewalk... If that is the wear, I would fail to see how they would achieve that naturally.

I LOL'd at this statement. But in all seriousness, that phone was definitely dropped to get a scuff like that.

It's pretty clear that if dropped or scratched, the phone will show raw aluminum coloring. It's a pretty simple concept, if the aluminum isn't black ALL the way through, a scratch will take the color off. I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up like this is some sort of magical anomaly that no one could have seen coming?!

Maybe I don't care as much since I always use BodyGuardz on the entire phone.

In before wet sanding and polishing the bezel becomes the new "cool" thing to do to the black iPhone 5's? Mark my words... I think I'm on to something here...

I bought the black i5 because of the black bezel....it was different. If I put a bumper around it, I'm hiding the main reason I bought it. Therefore, if scuff gate is in fact legit, I will be going to Apple store just after the release hype is over and returning for a white one. Seeing silver in the black on a daily basis would drive me stone cold nutz.!!

Thank you... I think you put in words why it annoys me so much people keep insisting on putting -gate after every apple "controversy" (I just couldn't quite put my finger on exactly why it peeves me so much). And I agree, it got old a lot longer than this, I just decided not to say it (I did and then erased it in my first reply).

Aren't you being a bit of a suffix Nazi... Wait a minute!

lmao. so you're saying you'd take your car back and trade it in for a completely refurbished car because you went and put a ding in the side of your car? Okay.

A ding "I" created is different. The reviewer said it basically just happened....as in normal use with no drops. If my car's paint started just chipping away, you bet your ass I would.

I would actually not even use the phone, that way nothing bad happens to it. Wear NFL receiver gloves to hang on to it if need be.

Only one reviewer has mentioned this?

Yes and I am almost positive everyone in the building has held the phone and it's been dropped or placed in a pocket with keys, etc. Although he said two diff phones they saw it on, so that puzzles me.

Instead of bumpers this time around Apple's gonna hand out Zagg shields. "You're using your phone wrong, everyone should have their phone is plastic wrap".

No... Slashgear reported it in their review too.

Even though I like the black version this time around, I pre-ordered the white version because I was worried about this issue. I doubt Apple will do anything about this if it is common though. It doesn't affect performance of the phone.

first time i saw this new design, with the metal back, it looked like it would scratch like a bitch.

the 4/4s was a much better design, the glass is nearly scratch proof.

I think you're absolutely right...folks will be polishing for that cool distressed look, and vendors will sell the backplates in all colors by the boat loads, which will be super easy to make since there will be no need to drill holes for the camera lense..

Come on now... they didn't color it with a magic marker that is just going to rub off by just touching it. If you look at his pictures you can clearly see in a couple of them that the phone was scratched by something. Just like any phone, it will eventually show signs of wear but if you take good care of it the finish is not going to rub off

Yeah. Apple isn't new to this process, I have my doubts about this claim.
