Just bought my iPhone 5 in Barcelona, on launch day.

If I'm fair, it's not a flawless phone. It's got a super tiny (0,1mm?) kind of hairline scratch on the bezel. No discoloration, no scuffs, no dents, no nothing tbh.

But, I'm gonna say it's a flawless phone. I found this hairline tiny scratch because I was looking for it after reading this thread for 1 week. Otherwise I wouldn't have found it.

Good luck to all those who are still waiting for their phones and replacements!!

P.S: It feels awesome!

EDIT: Well, not on the bezel. On the diamond polished part of it.

LOL! I can pick up the phone, I'm not a total moron. I'm just saying it's not as fluid of a motion to pick up the phone off a flat surface as the 4/4S is. The only reason I'm pointing it out is because Steve Jobs had insisted that with the first iPhone it had to be an easy/fluid motion to pick up the phone off a flat surface.

Yea.... and that design left with the 3GS while Jobs was still here.

Anything else of non-noteworthiness to bitch about?

Get a case. Problem(s) solved - you won't see it and it won't get worse.

FIRST thing I do when I get a new phone is install a screen protector.

SECOND thing I do when I get a new phone is put it in a case.

"get it a case"

wont solve it its still there!

u paid alot, request a replacement AND a case

I'm wonderin' how iPhone5 users will piss in Turkey. There's no official Apple Operation here yet. (They just hired GM and workin' to enter Turkish market officially)

Here in Turkey you can only buy iPhone's from Carriers and Tech Markets all are unlocked (yes this is good for us) After sale services given by 3rd parties (there are only 3 operators and 3 after sale services workin' with all devices BlackBerry, iPhone, Samsung whatever they are for 80million population) And there is still no (and won't be) replacement policy like UK/US and any other country. (here you have contact after sale services for such problems. You can ask for a refund from where you buy your device, they'll place you refund if they don't see scuffs like you did because they can call it user-fault and will direct you to after sale services anyways) [There are better ways to get your money back but most of the users are not aware w/ their right -glad I'm- and when I had such problems I directly contact to management team of the company (by usin' my companys name) not customer representatives since they are just workin' like secretaries and readin' what supervisors gave them.]

All they can do is sendin' your device to aftersale services and since old devices (any brand) still makin' good money here (we have to pay about $1500 to $2000 for iPhones) no one keepin' their old devices.

After sale services make ppl wait up to 20 work days (about 25days) "legally" and with such problems scuffs etc. iPhone 5 users have to wait 20days w/out their devices and will get reply "user fault" I'm sure on that since I had such problems and still hearin' many problems about such situations w/ any brand smartphone.

You can check number of complaints about aftersale services here: KVK, Teleservice and Genpa

Most of the damn ppl here are not rich @ all. %50+ percent makin' $350/400 monthly but they still use $1500 BlackBerry's, iPhone's, Samsungs etc. just to say I have this! (Fuuu credit system, they pay up to 36months w/ small amounts)

Some clever guys bring iPhone5 16gigs from USA and sellin' for $2500 and there won't be damn nano-sim till january here o_O (what a moron buyin' device and waiting 2months to use it?)

Anyways with such customer services here, Apple will kill itself in Turkey. They better watch and work for these and bring "good produced" iPhone5's here not "factory-scratched" ones. If ppl have such problems w/ $1500-2000 devices here they never gonna buy any iPhones again...

I'm buyin' my iPhones from UK and currently using iPhone 4S as a second (I've BlackBerry Bold 9900) and I skipped iPhone5 due these problems since I won't find anyone to support me if such things happens.

I think I'll wait for iPhone 5S and can check new full touch BlackBerry (BB10) if it comes ready that day (It should)

As an iPhone 4S user (which I really like it) I disappointed with iPhone 5. Looks like a downgrade comparing to iPhone 4S (talkin' design and quality based)

And no official response? That's where #iFail happens. This is even more disappointing than cosmetic issues. They should do the best and release official statement as they did w/ antennagate...

(sorry for possible grammer mistakes)

Simple answer to scratches and chips.

Image

You better give that advise to Apple HQ not ppl buyin' devices, they'll (should) get replacements. Maybe you can paint faulty devices for Apple for free? You got the job! Now you can tell everybody that you're workin for Apple but not get paid...

I wasn't going to call to get my iPhone 5 replaced because I just had a small nick by the headphone jack but now I noticed the speaker grill is chipping and that theres a light scratch on the front glass by the camera - and I always keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else in it. My iPhone 4S never had a scratch.

That and the wifi keeps cutting in and out between LTE.

So now I'm getting this one replaced.

ok so mine was flawless out of the box
but after just 1 day, i found 2 tiny tiny chips on the edge
is there any potential fix for it? I remember some of you recommend using some kind of sharpie? Is that plausible?

thanks all...

It's not a DESIGN flaw, it's about the material they used. You can anodized aluminum till kingdon come, and guess what, it'll will still scratch because at the end of the day it's still aluminum. I deal with anodized aluminum products everyday; they bend, ding, scratch and scuff. It's the product that Apple has offered at this time and they're more than willing to exchange for another or give you back a complete refund. But they're not going to make a special iPhone with a harder casing for the people who scream "flawed design." Don't buy this generations iPhone is my suggestion to you, cause we're all stuck with it for two years.

And It has nothing to do with foregoing your rights as a consumer, I know my rights, and I exercised that right when I returned my scuffed iPhone.

May be you did not look at the youtube video I posted. There were aluminium phones made before. None of them chipped or scuffed or dented like the iPhone 5. Haven't you been reading the forum? Replacements are not helping. Iphone 5 is a flawed device, hardware and software wise. Ofcourse I am not buying iphone 5. Anybody who is ok with a scuffed phone is selling himself short.

Get a refund. Skip this years model and wait for a new one or atleast wait till things settle down and more information come out. Newer batches may be good.

I attempted this and had so-so success. What I would recommend is to have a microfiber and a screen cleaning solution ready and follow these steps.

1. Touch up stop very lightly.
2. Spray screen cleaner on spot
3. Clean off with microfiber
4. Repeat a few times if necessary.

The problem I find with the sharpie is the color doesn't match well. It has a higher shine than the original finish. That is why I made sure to wipe off the excess right away. It should stick to the expose aluminum though. Give it a try if you want. Just make sure to clean the spot after you apply the sharpie.

Was just completely shut down and told that a color change is not possible via Apple.

I'm almost to the point of going to Verizon and paying the $35 to swap the phone.

If they miss a payment does their iPhone get repossessed?

Nope there's nothing w/ apple. apple gets money from bank and if they miss a payment they probably have problem w/ bank. court costs + sequestration & interest

----------

i pay 25 and im quite content with that

i didnt mean that ppl buyin their devices w/ monthly payments are poor. When you check my long reply you'll get the point :) and you pay to your carrier and they offer some data etc w/ it this only device payment and there's no upgrade, early upgrade etc options.

Just got off the phone with Verizon. Shipping me a white 16GB to replace my black and waived the restocking fee.

Continuing their good customer service to me.

for the Canadian folk:

As per Apple, I was to take my damaged phone to the Rogers store in which I purchased it at for a replacement. I went to the store, they had none and said to try back later in the week. I went in today to see if any more had come in and I could get mine replaced. They had none and I was told to call back in the morning to see if more came in again.

I went home with my phone and then the phone rang, it was the manager of the store and he had an email from Roger head office that said they will not be accepting the phones back as DOA doesn't cover cosmetic damages (so basically you can receive a scuffed to hell phone from Rogers and as long as it functions like it should their hands are clean).

Thankfully I opened a case with apple the Monday after launch so I'm gonna be headed to the Apple store tonight and hopefully get this rectified. For 900bux I expect a perfect product when I open the box.

So...Rogers says "screw you, its not our problem we sold you a damaged phone" Apple will be seeing me tonight and I'll have them open as many boxes it takes and save from that I'll return it all and deal with something else.

Mine had to get shipped twice since I'm in a different location than the billing address. Came out fine so far. Going to put on a front screen protector before I set it up, and then hopefully get a case soon. I might leave the back plastic on, and just trim off the little tab. That's what I've usually done in the past until I get a case.

I said I wasn't going to trade in my black, 64GB iPhone 5 for a non scuffed one as damage would happen eventually, but I caved and went into the Apple Store today.

I told the genius it was this way out of the box, and I'd love it if they could replace it with a new one.

I told him I plan to buy AppleCare+ but I don't want to buy it for a phone that came to me with damage already present - he agreed and said he wouldn't want to either.

I bought AppleCare+ and he took down my information. They were out of new, retail units and replacement units, so he told me as soon as more come in he will call me and I'll swing in to swap my phone out. Quick and easy.

Don't demand a new phone - no one likes being TOLD what they will do for you, rather, be polite and ask. No need to get all fussy when all it takes is a little courtesy.

Well my original was scratched, my replacement was scratched and now I have to ship both back to Apple...they would not exchange for a white one. They said I could return back to Apple, wait a week or two for inspection and credit my account then re-purchase a white one, after my eligibility was posted back to AT&T. Wish this process was more customer friendly but I understand if their system cant handle this type of exchange. I guess once I get my eligibility back I will decide if should get a white one or just move on to something else...Ive been with iphone since original back in 2007...so it will suck if I have to get something different.

are you under your limit of usage... i.e. 30 mins?

AppleCare can't do a replacement for a different part number, but the Apple stores can. In fact, most keep stock back just for returns.

2 nicks on mine around the lightining port

im not gonna even bother with a replacement though cuz i have a case on it

im so thrilled to be back with an iphone after having to deal with the s3 that i can look past it
