I've been carrying my black ip5 since launch day completely naked in my pocket, and I do not have one scuff mark or blemish.

time to take stock folks. no more screaming about the .0025mm nick in your phone. someone somewhere has a 25mm gash on his face because of it.
you are really lucky - my black arrived damaged and got much worse as i waited for replacement, then I rec'd a white and it had a ding by the camera both phones came from DN
called apple and they were super nice
I'll try and take some pics today with close up lens
also having massive problems w/wifi but I assume that can be fixed with next update
I'd be interested to know if there is any pattern between gig sizes. Mine is a 64 and was shipped from China.
So I've been reading this whole thread since the start. My contract has ended and I was on the market for a new phone. The iPhone 5 definitely caught my eye as an option with sgs3 or htcx in the mix aswell.
Reading this thread though and weeding through all the posts made me actually decide to take a look myself what the fuss was all about.
Most people had unpacked loads of iPhones before getting the right one, but the customer service seemed to be on par for a premium product.
So I went to pickup my i5 today and had to unpack three boxes before getting a cosmetically, what seems to be, flawless iphone.
The first one had a chipped chamfer and a scuff on the sideband. The second had a scratch on the sideband and they had to get the manager to ask if I could open a third box. The manager was really nice he said that they didn't tolerate these cosmetic flaws and that I was allowed to open as many boxes as needed.
Quite happy with my i5, but I'm still waiting for my nano sim.

Despite the number of legitimate complaints on this forum regarding both pre-damaged phones and those damaged easily after opening, you still cannot conclude that the iPhone 5 design & manufacturing processes are fatally flawed.
I believe this will turn out to be two problems that may be related. First, a manufacturing or packaging problem on a limited scope resulting in the big dings and scratches seen right out of the box. Second, an anodizing issue resulting in the easy scuffing a few people have experienced.
These problems need to be corrected. However, they don't indicate a total failure of design and the need to give up and skip an entire generation.
I've seen numerous black iP5s now (our two included) being used no differently than their predecessors without a single issue.
Bring back the durable stainless steel band I say!
Hi peeps.
Glad I found this forum and was not alone.
I had to replace my iphone 5 due to it being chipped and power button really loose. Anyway I got my replacement, it's a lot better than first... Few miniscule dots of white around socket edges at bottom of phone but not noticeable. Anyway I then switch it on and find dust under the glass of front screen. I was hoping it was just under screen protector but it wasn't when I took it off.
Question is do I replace again... The dust is small but I keep seeing it and does my head in. O2 are re emailing apple in hope that third time lucky if poss but I dunno what do ya think!????
Answers on a postcard
The core problem is that the aluminium frame scratches/nicks/dings/dents very easily. Either it will happen at the factory or it will happen in your possession. The frame was another bad choice made by apple in recent times.
Yeh I guess... I mean I'm going through O2 at the mo.. Ya get 28 days for any faults usually not matter how many exchanges usually. But then I see your point about just goin the apple store under manufactures warranty. It's a small dot but is a pain.. I mean shouldn't be there either way right.
Thanks for replying
I have been refused a 3rd replacement from apple. They offered a refund but that was it. The 2nd replacement is just about perfect there are a couple of paint flakes which I think I am going to just put up with.
Easy fix. Put a case on it.
