B.c all two million are on forums. We are talking a dozen people on a forum where a dozen have the phone

There are many more than a dozen people on these forums. But still, people get way too bothered with things like this whenever a new iteration of the iPhone comes out. Plus, it's going to get way worse with age. Get used to it. Anodised aluminium does this. Check out the photo of my Leatherman below.

You're not understanding guys. Jessica(period) is the POLICE of Macrumors and sheriff of the internets. My first encounter with Jessica(period) was when I told a guy he should break up with his gf for getting him an engraved ipad (or something like that) I don't even really remember. I was very very obviously kidding but the policing process was already in motion.

Jessica(period), don't you think your time would be better served screening threads for the misuse of "you're" and "your"? Or "too" and "to"?

DAMN!

About a dozen, yeah, nah. One guy alone opened 8 boxes in Germany with all markings.

It's not about it being a tiny flaw, it's about quality control. Get off your fan boy pedestal.

Correct
And there arent 2 million iphone 5 users in this forum.....

If I just splash out $700 on a top of the range phone, I don't expect it to come with the anodising coming off. If this is happening its Apple who should be replacing them, not giving out covers. My love for Apple wouldn't cloud my judgment unlike many on here.

Oh but you clearly do. I don't recall you, most likely because you, as well as that thread, was forgettable.

What kind of policing is it when someone has a differing view than you? Oh that's right, you live in a world where everyone agrees with everything you say! Perfect. Me likey!

I leave the grammar police job to others; I have to save that energy for my day to day duties at work.

Look up the word policing and get back to me. Chances are it has nothing to do with someone voicing a view that differs from yours. ;) Hugs!

so, shes on her period?

No, not yet. Want me to PM you when I am? It seems important to you and my new friend leonard!

Would you buy a new car that has paint chips all along the edges?

No, but these are issues people can only see under extremely close examination.

I preordered black but didn't get in on the first batch. I'm going to run down to the Verizon store in a few minutes and see if they have any. After all this think I'm going white for the first time. If their are marks out of the box then it's going to be ugly down the road.

People seriously need to stop defending Apple on these forums. I realize that it's an Apple fan forum but I consider myself an Apple fan and this quality control simply isn't acceptable. "Anodised aluminium does this"... If it does, then they shouldn't use it. Simple as that. These are expensive phones, if they look like crap after four hours in a pocket, what are they going to look like after a month?

This is what will likely happen to your iPhone 5 as time goes on

Really??? Is this more important than the map issue???

Yes.

Software can be updated, a black phone that looks like it's been through a meat grinder after a couple of months of "normal" use is going to upset a lot of people.

I'm so glad I did not pre-order a black IP5.

I meant in terms of design and stature. A Mercedes would have been a better example!

No, I don't live in a world where over half the people I know have a Mercedes. Its more like Honda, which I think is a good analogy. Hondas are good cars and I've had a few... they hold their resale value insanely high vs other cars. But they honestly have problems just like every other car and are not inexpensive to have fixed, but for some reason they have a cult like following willing to pay more for them used.

Couple months of wear and it will be silver.

I think they call that patina! You have to pay more for that, don't you know.

I absolutely love some of the comments here; "this is getting serious", "this is a nightmare", etc. So much drama!

Yep, I have to agree with you. I think its fine that people are discussing it and don't see anything wrong if someone wants to ask for a different one from Apple, but seriously... the majority of people are not going to worry about it. The sky is falling drama about this is a little over the top. I buy a phone to use... not to put on display. Its not like a collectible that you need to keep MIB (Mint in Box) in a glass case. I carry it in my pocket, and it gets scratches. This is just an indication that that Apple needs to tighten things up on the assembly line a bit, and I'm confident they will.

When the iPhone 4 first came out on day one, I think there were just about as many posts of people that had dropped it within 5 minutes and the back of the thing shattered. I'd rather have a nick or scuff vs. shattered glass... and I'd rather have glass or anodized metal vs. plastic which most other phones use.

seems no one else is really talking about this. a quick google search came up with nothing but this site. i know there were one or two reviews that mentioned it. i guess it's too early. just figured the story would at least be all over the techy forums already.

This whole scuff-gate has made me go with AppleCare+ now instead of buying a case. When I sell my iPhone 5 in 2 years, I'll just have it replaced before I sell it to get maximum value from it, and also, I'll have drop protection, etc with the AppleCare+ :)
