REALLY! Wow, sign me up for an iPhone sized Phone with a 36" screen! Woot.

Your hyperbole does not defeat my argument. You can have a bigger screen in the iPhone's casing by reducing the bezel around it.

I'd be in favor of a larger screen and wider/thinner form factor.

When the Droids with the massive screens first came out, I thought they looked ridiculous. But, the iPhone has had a 3.5" screen for four years now. I think it's finally time for a change. I can't even play games on my iPhone anymore, especially after using an iPad. Angry Birds is near impossible. I think that 4"-4.5" would be absolutely perfect.

In case you aren't aware, the world changes and people's hype in electronics changes with what they demand the most. I'm sure apple is aware that things change, and you can't base what a company like this will do based on what they've always done. They know how to change things believe me

Very true. But you also know the expression: never change a winning team. A company like Apple won't change dramatically. But again, never say never.

Gadget-freaks like us (?) likes to see lots of changes. But normal consumers don't, and that's even scientifically proven.

I hope you're right and I very wrong! But again, look at the design of other Apple-products, and you will see they never change the design dramatically every year.

Apple takes the extra time for iOS5 and iCloud, testing the new hardware with the new iOS5 and beyond.

Agreed, but the mobile phone market is rapidly changing, and Apple would lose if they kept the same design for their iPhone for 3-4 years or even longer, as they've done with the Mac line. Phones should be refreshed to stay in line with carrier contracts, where as there are no contracts in the desktop/laptop area.

The whole "retina" branding was dumb to begin with anyhow. It confused so many people who don't understand the concept.

Sure, "retina" display is a pretty dumb branding. Especially since it's not technically correct. But apart from that I think that it would look just ridiculous if Apple doesn't change the resolution and we end up with an oversized iPhone UI. Ah well, Android smartphone users got accustomed to an ever changing UI in terms of size (and other things) so maybe iPhone user should just get used to it. Personally I would like my icons to have the same dimensions on the iPhone 5 as they did for the past 4 years, I just wanna see more of them at the same time :)

I've never had an iPhone but they feel kind of bricky compared to our touch and iPad. I can deal with the current screen size if it means I can better battery life and a thinner profile.

Of course that's just me and I'm going to eat whatever Apple puts on my plate!

I remember when the cool phone was the smallest one :D

so funny going back at Cell Phones of yesteryears

seeing those made me remember how wild west those years were.

be nice if Apple mixed up the iPhone 5 though. it's getting boring.

There is 0% change that Apple will change the resolution.
There is 100% change that Apple will increase the screen size.

The iPhone 4 look silly next to the Samsung Galaxy S2. It's thick, heavy and has a small screen with too much bezel. Currently, the iPhone 4 is fine, because the SGS2 is unique. In October 2012 however, the current design will look outdated.

Just sum up the facts and you know I'm speaking truth.

agreed

If it was one, why make it so awkward to use in a landscape orientation? There's not a lot of games that use a portrait display.

Not just games as I text in landscape because of my big fat fingers. It would feel different but maybe if it's wider, I might be able to text in portrait easier?

I want a 'tad' bigger screen ... and since I'm still using a 2G, I'm due for an upgrade as stuck on iOS 3.13 has it's limitations!

Just release it so I don't have to read more rumours!

There is a reason why :apple: is moving towards wireless activation and syncing, as they are trying to eliminate the dock connector for some mag safe connector that is smaller and looks cleaner. :apple: will also have a greater deal of flexibility on designing form factors. Tapered or wedged batteries are not a concern, as this is why they decided to bring R&D in-house. Here is the only guarantees, A5 chip, BlueTooth 4.0, and more GPU Memory. Everything else is speculation at this point. :D

I think that iPhone 5 will have a 4in screen with 1024x768 resolution to match the iPad. This way they still get to keep the retina display label while avoiding fragmentation with multiple screen resolutions. It would actually be even better for the consumer since all apps can then be universal.

I really can't believe that you just said that. FCPX, MacBook Air with no optical drive, iMac with no floppy drive? The list goes on.

Apple calls their computer displays Cinema, but they aren't anywhere near a real "cinema".

Nobody gets all wound up about Cinema. It is interesting that Retina has been such a lightning rod for pedantry.

whats with all folks that think there will be no lower end iPhone as well as its flagship iPhone5?

The biggest emerging market are the pre-paid, low-tier smartphones that are being sold.

Right now Apple needs to compete against the cheaper Android phones out there. The iPhone 4S would be a perfect fitting for this demographic, and the iPhone 5 would remain their flagship product.

Jobs (Apple) has a past history of taking risks of cannibalizing his own products for the sake of a better one. Case in point the iPod touch and the then upcoming iPhone.

Anything wider than the iPhone4 sucks to hold onto. Wider phones get hard to fit in pockets. Need a bigger screen than the iphone4? .... Buy an iPad.

I know android people love their near tablet sized phones but I'm not a fan of a larger screen. I want to keep the device small. not a cumbersome zack morris style phone.

Exaggeration is the tool of a weak argument. We're talking 4" and a miniscule change in the phone's width. Stop comparing this to a 10" tablet, you just look stupid.

The UI would not change at all. Again, bigger pixels does not make a bigger UI. It just means you zoom in less (which would be great, I'm feeling cramped on the 3GS as it is.
