I don't see Apple changing the iconic round home button. No other phone has it.

By that logic we'd still have translucent plastic powerbooks and iMac's...

The home button is neither practical nor pretty. I already hoped they'd get rid of it after iPhone 3.

I also hoped they'd increase the display size. Gave them a last chance when getting the iPhone 4. If this fall there will be no bigger display, I'll make the move to Android. I guess there are worse things in the world given the upcoming Nexus Prime, etc.

I'd suggest against it, developers adding this to any application makes it almost painful to use in certain situations.

Without it active, I can lay on my side, and comfortably use an application in the landscape position. If you allow the application to turn completely upside down, relative to the device, I'm suddenly looking at an application that's 90 degrees to my view.

The rotation lock is not a solution to this, it's too cumbersome to be effective. If you don't believe me, jump in bed and give it a go.

Why isn't locking rotation a solution? It stops auto-rotation.

...and I just tested things out with the GameSalad Creator... the supported orientations of a scene can be changed dynamically. That means an option screen could be created, allowing the user to enable and disable auto-rotation. But with the orientation lock, that doesn't seem necessary.
  • Double-tap home button
  • swish to the left
  • click lock
  • spinning stops

I think it's better to have the option of Auto-Rotation than not having it at all.

People really think this looks good?

Everyone said the EXACT same thing when the iPhone 4 was leaked ahead of schedule. Notice however those same people started backpedaling when they found out that, that was the device.

Am I the only one thinking the new "4S" model will really be the iPhone 5, this case leaked model will be an iPad Mini and that's it? No more iPod Touch.

I think this because of iPod going away in iOS 5 for the "Music" icon, it seems apple would be dropping the iPod touch name and replace it with the iPad Mini. Touch is now a given, not necessary to have in the name.

Line-up:
-----------
1) I phone 5 that looks identical to the 4 but with A5 chip and GSM/CDMA support in one device. Available on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint

2) iPad Mini with larger screen than the discontinued iPod Touch with A5 processor

3) iPad 3 (coming early next year with A6 processor?)

4) Current low end black iPhone 4 model will be sold as-is for $99 on contract at AT&T and Verizon only

Any thoughts?

hopefully the iphone 5's battery is equal if not better than the iphone 4's. considering that its now thinner and powering a larger screen.

I think there is no chance in hell that iPhone 5 is gonna look the same as iPhone 4

You are assuming that the alleged "iPhone" case is indeed that and, if so, of the dimensions of an actual production unit, not a rejected prototype, and the knock-off guys stole the wrong product dimension spec sheet.

I'm not sold this case fits the next iPhone, but it won't be too long now before we find out the truth.

I think there is no chance in hell that iPhone 5 is gonna look the same as iPhone 4

Why? Because the iPhone 3G looked nothing like the original iPhone or because the iPhone 3G looked nothing like the 3GS? Sure, Apple has no history of just tweaking designs from model year to model year.

When the iPhone becomes 4" do I expect that all the 4" haters will stick to their guns and say it's too big and refuse to buy it. Or will a magical switch flip in their brains and all of a sudden it's a magical size, perfect and yet again Apple have created the ideal device ;)

So I was at my hair dresser in San Francisco the other day and snapped this pic of some guy claiming he found an iPhone prototype at some bar that had great shrimp at affordable rates. I couldn't tell for sure but I think it had at least a 4" screen. Either that or they widened the bezel a little.

that's funny xD

BIGGER? NOOOO I want that iPhone nano they had rumors about a while ago! You know, remove the physical storage and just make it an iCloudPhone or something like that. I have 100 gigs of music anyway so an iPhone would be useless for me at this point. And it would be cheaper and could serve as an entry device at 70$ ish. Most of the cost is in the SSD and the screen anyway.

Finally, I've been waiting for Apple to jump on a bigger screen size, I remember when I had an iPod touch my biggest complaint while gaming was the screen size, it was far too small to give an enjoyable experience.. 4" sounds like a reasonable improvement, I wouldn't mind seeing something larger either.. As long it doesn't compromise portability and use..

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

This is the best year for iPhone rumors since before the original. It's like it was back in the PPC days, when speculation was wild and rampant and Apple was completely closed-lipped about everything.

A larger size iPhone would be better for the computing experience of the phone, not the phone experience. It makes sense, since the iPhone is a trimmed iPad with phone function; most people use the phone more for computing than for phoning (though the two sometimes coincide).

I'm shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, that people find a tapered design to be ugly or "bad". A bit of asymmetry is a design boon for visual and tactile reasons. Not sure if this rumor has legs, but it's a good rumor to get everyone talking.

This case confuses me

It doesn't make any sense. Seems to be too wide and too big to be an iPhone, and too small to be an 'iPad mini' like someone suggested. If Apple is to add a big brother to the iPod Touch or a young brother to the iPad, I would assume they would aim for 5 - 7 inches. No?

...also this cases have round corners like iPhone 3, that sucks.

The new iphone or the new iPod touch... that is the question.

What question?

It's nice to see from the line drawings that the speakers are further apart - I'm sure resulting in better stereo separation and a bigger sound-stage!!!!!

Ya know.....

I don't think this is even an iPhone part. Remember last year when we started seeing parts from the Chinese, and it turned out to be for an android phone? It's like people are just grabbing anything they can that looks like a product not currently on the market, and shoving it out there as though it's some kind of exclusive.

This is compounded when there's money involved.

Could it possibly be for something else?

Nup. No competitor could possibly be making something so stupidly big... at all...

Don't get me wrong, that actually looks like a nice device, but you would look absolutely hideous holding that up to your face while talking.
