Ok, lets hope Apple releases the next iPhone in the next couple of weeks with iOS 4.3.5 just to make the shareholders and investors happy, and then at the end of September or early October when iOS 5 is ready and stable enough to be out of Beta, then lets update the phone and release iCloud and OS X Lion 10.7.2 all out of order, just to make the shareholders happy now and divert attention from what is currently going on.

Yup, this makes perfect sense.

Remember ios 4? They released first then the iphone 4! So we will see ios5 first then come the iphone5

While I understand the logic in looking for patterns and especially understand wanting this to be true, I have to point out that subscribing to this school of thought also dictates that we all already have our new 5th Gen. iPhone and iOS 5 because they would have been released in June as was the case last year. Being that for whatever reasons that is not the case tends to point to a flaw in the whole "because that is how it happened previously." line of reasoning.
In all seriousness obviously whatever unfolds could turn out to support your theory; nevertheless, to present it in such a factual manner presents glaring contradictions in your grasp of cause and effect. :p

Nah, iPhone 5 is still going to be on track for late September/early October launch, with the event date the same as it was. I want to agree with Gizmodo's post about this: Steve Jobs's resignation letter was more about strategy than any worsening of his health (which is a relief, if you ask me). They just made it official what Apple has been working on for months now: Cook's training as CEO and Steve Jobs's gradual pull out from Apple. Stock prices will fluctuate now, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that Apple has $70 billion+ in cash. It also doesn't change the fact that many investors know that many consumers are eagerly awaiting the iPhone 5. So I suspect that tomorrow, it will be a "buy" day. At least it will be for me. As for Apple, the stock prices could hardly matter what the more important matters at hand.

Well said. I really hope it's not due to Steve's health. But, health is the main factor behind this of course.

I just hope he's decided to ease the incredible weight on his shoulders and now sit back a little and watch his amazing products and company grow .... spend some time with his family, travel, play with his own MacBook Air or iPad or whatever his favorite toys are, and I hope most of all he lives a good long life.

The heck with shares right now, Steve's the point shares aren't ... They have 70 Billion in the bank, no doubt a plan of incredible products to come out in the next years and MANY smart people work there now, hand picked by Steve. The plan is in motion now, with loads of cash and good people to execute it.

Something I want to know is; why is the iPhone 5 and iOS5 announcement so late compared to usual? Providing it does come out in september, that's 3 months later than usual...

That's the million dollar question; Why?
Although, technically we don't know that the iPhone 5 will be released in September (since Apple hasn't said anything officially), but the rumours are strong enough to support it being this way.

probably to bring it in line with the iPods, makes sense to have them at the same time as the iPod touch.

True, but again, why? Were there manufacturing problems? Are they adding a feature to the iPhone 5 to wow people that takes a lot of testing? (I'm hoping this, since from the rumours, there isn't much they will be adding bar a bigger screen and a spec bump.) LTE would be awesome....

And from years past, there would also be a 5.1 update to come along with the event, guess that won't happen this time? I dunno

Either way, can't wait to upgrade my 3GS. I'm also hoping for 3G FaceTime in iOS5 as has been rumoured :)

bearing in mind we've known since around the beginning of the year about the late release, i doubt it's manufacturing problems. Like i said, it's probably just to bring the release in line with the iPod Touch, means a more unified release, the new Touch will have generally the same feature as the new iPhone, saves them repeating themselves a few months apart. they always have to test new tech for the device, this is no difference. i doubt there's any technical reason for the delay, just a marketing one.

of course a 5.1 won't happen at the event as it will be the launch of 5.0. there probably will be a 5.1, just later.

We all know that the Iphone 5 is going to be a good product but apple rushing into an early release is not the best idea(if it is a possibility). I think apple know better than releasing a product to early and not having it as good as they would have originally wanted it because they rushed it.... so if u ask me apple should (and probably will) keep the current release date of late september/early october. :apple::apple:

If they company is doing so well and if not for your health, why would you step down now?

Because people know he will have to resign eventually. The longer he waits, the more people [investors] will freak the hell out when something drastic happens. Instead of letting the time bomb continue ticking, he just let it out now. Then again, it could be what you said. We'll find out in his biography.

exactly.

My thoughts are that he resigned now, as it gives time for the stock to recover from the hit it took from this, in time for it to then get a huge bump with the new iPhone being released along with new iPods, etc, as apple's stock always gets a nice bump when that happens, if he did it nearer to release, then it wouldn't get as much of a bump.

Yes I thought that too, but then I remembered that September is when Apple releases all their new iPod product line, this will build hype, and they wont necessarily have to update the iPhone then.

Its still possible, but the big release doesn't necessarily have to be the iPhone.

My guess is that they were trying to finalize the deals with Sprint and T-Mobile.
Having the phone available on all carriers at release has a much bigger impact than having the carriers come on board later mid-cycle.
Hopefully they learned that lesson with Verizon.
All those articles telling Verizon users not to buy the iPhone 4 because the 5 was just around the corner didn't do any favors for either Verizon or Apple.

My guess is that they are really packing a great amount of stuff in the iPhone 5... and to do so, they have had to take longer than expected. For some reason, I want to think that they didn't want to delay it this long, but had to. Why did they have to delay it? My guess here would be problems with manufacturing. I'd imagine it's harder to build edge to edge screens, or pack an A5 into an even thinner and lighter iPhone.... Just not sure. Hopefully we can find out in September though!

Apple is not going to release a phone just because their stock went down a bit. They are not a reactionary company.

There is no way iPhone 5 will launch ahead of the final, stable release of iOS5. Looking at the state of iOS5 now, I'd say it'll be a while.

Sounds Good and looks very promising to launch in Oct, however, until the iPhone 5 is officially announced by Apple it's all rumor and speculation to me from here on out. Me personally, I'm counting the days till I can order it. ;)

Media event most likely announced in next 2 weeks. Keep in mind event would have to be after Labor day. Most likely, building up inventory is key to exactly when IPHONE5 will be released. In any case the hall must be booked already, I'm surprised nobody has confirmed this yet.

I highly doubt we'll be seeing the iPhone 5 announcement until early October, so i say, give it just about 1 month from now. And we should be getting invites to the iPhone, iPod, iCloud and iOS 5 event.
