If the reports are correct that the iPhone 5 has a new form factor, it will not look anything like the iPhone 4. I'm guessing no more steel band and it's probably not glass on the back. May be some sort of uni-body like the MacBooks...

Perhaps if its going to be an aluminum back again that the Apple logo will be where the radio bands escape from, and maybe just maybe it will light up just like on the MacBooks! One can dream..

I don't want a light up Apple killing my battery, thanks.

when can i preorder :D

i have to say this is my favorite mockup. i would just say there probably won't be a front flash but like you said its what you have heard others want. great job!!!!

Very nice mock up, only thing I wasn't sure of, was the flash on the front... What would that be used for? The LED notification I think would be useful, and I think the new iPhone really needs a 4'' screen! The touch screen button would be interesting, but if it works would be Great! Overall nice job!

You did a good job making the design, but I would be very surprised if the final version was like that. Mostly I don't think we will see a 4" screen, I don't think Apple wants to decrease pixel density, and if they change the resolution it would mess up the current apps.

I've been thinking the same thing all along. After pushing Retina Display with the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch, they aren't going to backtrack and make a larger screen that will decrease the DPI. And they aren't going to increase the resolution to keep the same DPI on a larger screen because it would not match the resolution that all their apps have been designed for. While I do want a larger display, I'd rather keep the same DPI on a smaller screen. That was the main reason for me getting an iPhone 4 over an Android phone. None of them (at the time) even came close to the Retina Display.

I really like this mockup. Nice job. I like the slight bezel you left at the sides of the screen. I'll agree with others about the front flash seeming useless, but that's just our opinions. If it is ever so slightly wider than the current iPhone 4 design then I can live with that if the front looks like your mockup. Again, nice job.

Sooner or later others will catch up to retina display and probably with higher resolutions so apple might just change it and get the developers to change the apps.

I like the gesture area around the home button. I hope it is present in the actual model. A very cool concept IMO.

I like it.

2 things;

I don't like a touch home button, for me a physical button is much better.
I also don't need a notification light. My light would basically always be on, and that would be annoying. I always have a VM, text or email.

I like the screen, especially since the phone didn't gain any height and only marginal width. I would want to carry the monster phones currently on the market.

Edit

Oddly enough, I like the front LED. I would actually have an active use for it.

The really does't coincide with the rumors that the new cases are beveled like the old 3G/3GS', but that doesn't mean much. IDK how much I like a 4" screen though....

I would also still like a physical button, just a better quality one! Looks better as well. For the notification light I would love one, I mean I know some people like Mike above don't want one but as long as there's an option to turn it off everyone's happy, right?

Id LOooove to have a Leeeeetle bit bigger screen. Your mock up looks proportionally perfect IMHO.
And Ive always wanted a notification light on the front, but know they wont ever do it. A once every 10 second or so blinking green for mess. or text light would be COOL!

I pray they dont go back to the beveled backing.

I'm not really a huge fan of being blinded by the flash of the front facing camera. :D I also don't like the capacitive home button as well as the notif LED. I also think the front facing camera is too far to the side. I don't wanna have to hold my iPhone to the side for FaceTime.

Otherwise great job on the concept.

It looks great! I think Apple really needs to go to a 4" screen. Too many hi end phones at 4". The app makers will have to catch up eventually anyway. Might as well start now. Consumer Reports had a shot of 6 phones and the iphone was the only 3.5" and it looked dinky next to the droids...not a good selling point.

User selectable led, heck yes. I hate the push and swipe to check if I got a message, email, text or not.
I do prefer a hard home button.

Android guy for 2 years now, since I ditched my iPhone3G, few things will get me back to Apple A.S.A.P. But my new EVO-3D is pretty bad ass, long lasting battery life, Sense 3.0 is amazing, overall Android has come a long way, and the new high end Android phones coming out this Summer/Fall are very good finally. But if the iPhone5 has these new features, I will be very tempted to come back, if not I will happy with the little green robot.

- 4" screen
- LED Notification light
- Notification system ( iOS5 is doing it :) )
- Hoping for but not expecting Widgets

a button with touch capabilities is the worst thing ever, sony ericsson use buttons like that and trust me you really don't wanna have that ever...

I said the same thing about touch screen phones about 5 years ago. Look where we are now.

If Apple decided to use touch sensitive buttons, they would make sure it was flashy and responsive.

Also I am a fan of the dedicated camera button idea. I miss this about my blackberry.

And I always thought it would be sweet if they combined the notification LED with the home button. A home button that could light up a few programable colors when you have a missed text or call. That would be rad.
