How the heck are you supposed to hold that up to your ear for any length of time?

No thanks.

I guess they were thinking of people using their hands... Its proven quite popular on every other phone.. though i suppose you could try wrapping tape round your head.

I hope they keep the button. I like Ilene single buttons simplicity. My friends have android phones with touch home buttons and they tell me they always accidentally pressing them.

That mockup is hideous, but I imagine that the rumor is in line with what you could expect. A thinner iPhone with slightly upgraded internals , e.g. 64GB of storage, A5, 1080p/8MP rear camera, FaceTime HD front camera, larger (3.7-4") screen, and presumably the same or better battery life are almost expected at this point.

I could see the gestures and a tapered design. I think they're going to ditch the ice cream sandwich design for sure.

The iphone 4 has an amazing design. the metal band is epic. the consistent thickness from top to bottom is ideal. it's incredible. the only thing i want improved is a larger screen—i was hoping for 4", but i'll take 3.7. i really don't see why they would do a design after 1 gen, especially one that seems to step backward into the ipod touch again. in fact, i would believe it more likely tha the next ipod touch would look more like the iphone 4.

Transparent aluminum er Liquid Metal

Not sure if anyone said this earlier but what about a liquid metal enclosure. That ought to keep dents and scratches away and allow for a thinner design.

Edit: If it is gonna be Liquid Metal then this might be the iPhone 6 not the iPhone 5. Then in a similar way Joshua Topolsky was wrong about the iPad 2 with retina - he was getting rumors for a device that is further down the pike.

Oh god...

That thing is ugly! I hope the next iPhone doesn't look like that or I'm going to puke. I'd rather have an iPhone 4... anyways it doesn't look like something Apple would make, so I doubt that's the iPhone 5.

I'm sure in years to come, something like an iPhone will be that thin, or even thinner, but I don't believe that by 2012 we'll have the tech to actually do it.

Not till they can pack virtually all the circuity onto a few thin chips on one circuit board, and also switch away from a thick IPS screen which has a backlight and many layers to something like a Super AMOLED screen which is much thinner.

Mate! Have you ever taken apart an iphone 4? No, well let me tell you the LCD and backlight all in 1 is as thin as a hair!! Also all the chips, tech is on one extremely small circuit board! The only this that adds bulk to the iphone is the thick metal cage!!! I hope they get rid of it! I always thought the iphone should look like the touch. It needs to be larger at the top too, as the camera module is the thickest component! ;) Im loving this design MORE & MORE :)

Whatever the design, it will look and feel beautiful when held in one's hand. Thinner is just about guaranteed. A dual core A5 is a near certainty. A metal back is likely. Somewhat larger display is probable. A rock'n iOS 5 is a lock.

Heh, the mockup looks terrible...no way Apple will make something like that...specially after making a work of art like the iPhone 4.

3.7"?!

This makes the new iPhone similar to an entry-level Android.

Apple needs to bump this to 4" or 4.1".

I have a gen 4 iPT and an iPhone 4.

I highly doubt this thin form for the next iPhone.

This rumor is BS

Edit: When iPhone 4 leaked early I thought that design was spot on and would in fact be the new design while the peeps resistant to change balked. This new design is poor and a step back. I love change, but not change that sucks.

Josh creating BS because he wants some attention, nothing more.

I can believe they will make a small gesture button but i dont think the phone will look like that, its hideous.

My guess is they are going to do minor change, basically make a 4s. Will be faster slightly larger screen, thays about it. To me, they have pretty much created the perfect phone already

Meh. It's an Apple. Really getting bored of the Apple look and iOS. To me they just look really cheap now. Already made my decision to get the Galaxy S2. Sorry but if Apple sticks with the 3.7inch screen, they're only gonna fall further back. Let's be honest, the iPhone isn't that great as a phone. It never was. Transmission, reception, and voice quality are poor to average. There's a reason why the iPhone 5 is being delayed. Apple took one look at the current competition and went back to the drawing bored. And that's fine. Any good company should do just that. I've never been a full on blind fanboy, hence my move to the GS2. At the same time, I don't want Apple turning into the next RIM.

I love tech that's on the bleeding edge. Right now for me, that's hardware. The tangible undisputed specs. And Samsung's high end GS2 oozes bleeding edge tech. The camera and 1080P video is ridiculously amazing. I'm not the emotional type that gets all caught up with the brainless "it just works" crowd. You know what?, they all "just work." If you don't know how to adapt to any OS, then maybe you just shouldn't even use any device at all. Seriously, they're all easy to use and get used to. Don't get me wrong, Apple to me is still a great brand, but for me the honeymoon is over so to speak.
