A gesture area, the gestures all involve multiple fingers there would be no room on the bevel for that unless it is just a swipe onto the screen like you can do with activator already

My favorite iPhone design was the first one. Bring back the aluminum and rounded sides. It's not comfortable to hold this iPhone 4 brick!

Oh you mean the aluminum back that was ruined by a huge piece of black plastic for the antennas? What an aesthetic wonder that was!

And ROTFL at all the solemn pronouncements(as usual)stating what Apple will and won't do with utmost certainty. From the same people that a year ago were saying that the "found"iP4 absolutely positively was not an Apple creation and anyone who thought otherwise was a moron.

Just ridiculous.
And no I have no opinion on the accuracy of this rumor. We'll see soon enough.

If true, there are going to be HUGE lines for this.

How about this, give me the iPhone 4S, double the memory 1GB:), up the video speed:), and battery:cool:, dual core;), and take out the button and make that part the swipe area that should do it for me for at least the next 5 years:D. No more need to upgrade with a nice fast responsive phone. :D

And Apple if your listening, I want more Glass not less. More is good, and next time more glass on the iPad 3, lots of lovely GLASS.

Now you can make this phone and give it to the masses of "Me Too" Android Fanboy. That what this phone reminds me of.

And when has Apple followed good engineering design. They rather look pretty than listen to their engineers and tell them to deal with it. I believe their are multiple reports of Apple own engineers speaking out saying they told them that the design of the iPhone 4 Antenna was bad idea but instead they were told to deal with it and do it. Nothing the engineers could do about it. Apple choose to make their phones look pretty instead of function. Apple is a Form over function company.

Ironically, the "pretty"-over-proper engineering design you're referring to in this particular case happens to be quite ugly... Meaning Apple would be choosing ugly over proper engineering design this time lol

Don't get me wrong, it's reasonable to say that Apple does value aesthetics very much, but that approach doesn't seem to apply to this hypothetical mockup.

Meh. It's an Apple. Really getting bored of the Apple look and iOS. To me they just look really cheap now. Already made my decision to get the Galaxy S2. Sorry but if Apple sticks with the 3.7inch screen, they're only gonna fall further back. Let's be honest, the iPhone isn't that great as a phone. It never was. Transmission, reception, and voice quality are poor to average. There's a reason why the iPhone 5 is being delayed. Apple took one look at the current competition and went back to the drawing bored. And that's fine. Any good company should do just that. I've never been a full on blind fanboy, hence my move to the GS2. At the same time, I don't want Apple turning into the next RIM.

I love tech that's on the bleeding edge. Right now for me, that's hardware. The tangible undisputed specs. And Samsung's high end GS2 oozes bleeding edge tech. The camera and 1080P video is ridiculously amazing. I'm not the emotional type that gets all caught up with the brainless "it just works" crowd. You know what?, they all "just work." If you don't know how to adapt to any OS, then maybe you just shouldn't even use any device at all. Seriously, they're all easy to use and get used to. Don't get me wrong, Apple to me is still a great brand, but for me the honeymoon is over so to speak.

Nice to know Android Fanboy are on the Forum ROFL.

But how would Retina be retained?

If the iPhone 5 were to gain a larger screen, how would Apple keep Retina without changing the screen resolution. If the resolution were to change, that means that all of the apps written for iPhone 4 would appear blurry, right?

I really hope this is true, it is consistent with earlier rumours but not with these more recent ones of very little change from the iP4. Of course, these could be iPhone 6 rumours.

Obviously the mockup isn't what we'd want to see hit the market, but I'm sure Apple will be able to do a good job of it, they usually do.

I'll probably be buying the iPhone 5 regardless of what it is, I need to upgrade.

Meh. I choose Apple because they have better marketing. Technology sucks.

Unless you take into consideration that not a single one of those phones sell even remotely as well as the iPhone.

not a valid argument there. Here it is look at the sells of screen sizes.
3.5 of the iPhone is on the small size. Larger screen sizes are what the people really went.
Look at all the people saying they would love a 4 in iPhone.

4in is the sweet spot for me.

For anyone that hasn't read each page, here's the summary-

iPhone 4 owners- There is no way they will re-design it too look like this. A step back from my iPhone 4. The new iPhone will look like the iPhone 4 with upgraded internals and be called iPhone 4s

Everyone else- Sign me up, love the new design.

Par for the course I suppose..

I agree with him, I think the first gen iPhone was the best looking. Try not to hurt yourself "ROTFL".

I couldn't agree more, I strongly believe Apple is at the drawing board scratching their heads trying to come up with something compelling. My 3GS will be replaced by an Android as soon as my contract is over with Robbers (Rogers)

I'm the minority, I'm an iPhone 4 owner and will upgrade to iPhone 5 no matter what it looks like. As long as it has that A5 chip.

The resolution wouldn't change. Each pixel would just be that much bigger. It would still be finer than the 300 dpi Steve Jobs talked about at the keynote as being the dot pitch that the eye couldn't resolve 12" away. It would go from 326 dpi (it comes out to 330 with the kind of arithmetic we use here on Earth, but whatever) to 308.

Ugly!

Keep the thickness and double the battery life (more important in my opinion). That looks like it might be too thin to hold comfortably especially with the weight distribution.

I don't want to have that thing in my back pocket when I sit down. CRACK!

is it just me or do all of these mockups where the screen is edge to edge look ridiculously ugly?

Inductive charging via the Touchstone base.

Inductance charging is a good idea especially when you have multi devices, and I'm surprised that someone (Apple, Samsung, HTC) hasn't copied it yet. More so, I'm surprised that Palm/HP hasn't improved their product... the first iteration was great, but it requires the user to disassemble the device and place a special back cover on the device, something I can't see Apple doing... It has to be improved upon.

P.

I hope it's not drastically thinner and lighter. The 4 at the minute is just right, nice to hold feels right.

Maybe It's just my man handling sausage fingers but I wouldn't like to see it similar to the iPod touch.

Boy, did I read that bold part wrong. Maybe a well placed comma could allievate any misinterpretations... ;)

I agree completely.

3.5" Might be smaller but it's still the greatest selling smartphone in the world.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments about the thinness, or alleged thinness, that is. As it's been said before (with many things besides the iPhone I'm sure), there's point where things maybe get too thin, too small, etc, and it just doesn't feel right to hold or strong enough to withstand some wear. I don't think the thinness of the mockup is all that realistic, because the thinness trend will probably have to switch gears a little before progressing like it has been lately, so I'm not too concerned with the speculation of Apple doing something like this because I doubt they would

And for the record (responding to destroyboredom's post), I'm looking to be getting an iPhone soon, and if they hypothetically were to offer this mockup's form factor and the current iPhone 4's, the current iPhone 4's form factor looks a lot better to me. I wouldn't be surprised if many non-iPhone 4 owners felt this way

No me gusta...

I think the mock-up is hideous! I love the iPhone 4, and it was the design that finally made me break down and get an iPhone, at long last. Me thinks it is the best one yet. So I, for one, hope Apple sticks with that form factor for the time being....it's brilliant AND sexy!
