Am I the only one who noticed that the parts are different colors?

Maybe the new one is liquid metal.

Everyone keeps on saying the battery life will not last as long but i feel as though apple is going to come out with a retina+super oled display for the new iphone. The iphone can use a 4 inch screen if they would just widen it a bit, like my inspire 4g being wider the phone feels better in the hand. Often you see worse battery life with bigger screen devices because the quality of the screen(super LCD) and android is a battery hog(bloatware, widgets, and sim multitasking).

Apple's made it very clear that they want no part of an OLED screen on the iPhone. It's far worse in bright light and at different angles.

I'd be more than happy just for the dual core A5 (which i think is pretty much a given) Whatever they release it will be a worthy upgrade from my 8gb 3G, it used to be a joy to use but is soooo slow now I hardly ever use it for any other purpose then to make calls and send texts.

What I would like to see is mirroring on the next iPhone and with iOS, a way to back up your app data via iTunes so if I accidentally/purposely delete an app then I can get the data back. I'm allowed to dream...right??

Thats why i said retina+oled, which would be an awesome combination. The contrast of a oled and brightness and pixles of the retina which will help with sun light.

Apparently the plus is a fix to that issue.

Disagree...
1. The CPU/GPU is a non-factor. The iPhone 4 is fast as it is.
2. Metal back - who cares. The only improvement would be the elimination of the fragile glass.
3. Same form factor. Phones are getting released monthly now that are STRONGLY competing w/ the iPhone.
4. Bigger screen. Yes that would be an improvement, but if only to 3.8 VERY small improvement.
5. NFC - ????. Where/how would I use this now or in 6-12 months? This is a very new market and I tend to buy most good online now anyway. Restaurants or grocery stores would be the only choices for me really...
6. IOS 5, what does that have to do w/ a new iPhone 5?

The killer addition will be 4G, and if they don't add it will be a bummer. Or a killer redesign, not an incremental design change outlined above....

Sorry, but from that post it looks like someone likes his iPhone 4 and is undermining the iPhone 5 because it'll be much better.

1. The CPU/GPU is a non factor? Are you kidding me, that's the biggest upgrade. Try saying the CPU and GPU are non factors to iPhone 3G owners who can't run iOS 4 properly due to the massive lag.
Remember, the iPhone 3G was once fast in it's own time as well. When the iPhone 3GS was released people said "who cares if it's 2x faster? The iPhone 3G is fast as it is"

2. Metal back? You just mentioned it, nobody likes an easily breakable phone and it's great to know that your iPhone will survive an accidental drop.

3. Same form factor is nice, as long as the antenna issue is fixed

4. 3.8 is a very small improvement? Go hold an iPhone 4 and a phone with a 3.8" screen and then make a conclusion. With the added real estate Apple can integrate iOS 5's possible notification system making it less intrusive.

5. NFC, it's popular in Asian countries and maybe Apple will push NFC in America due to the iPhone 5, it's a great addition as it'll come with security and i wouldn't like to carry a bunch of cards in my wallet all the time

6. iOS 5 will be optimized to be used with iPhone 5, just how the iPhone 4 is optimized for iOS 4. When Apple puts the powerful Dual Core CPU and GPU to use for iOS 5, we can expect great things especially UI-wise and it will start lagging in the previous generations. The iPhone 5 will probably have the greatest longevity (so far) until they start integrating Quad Cores on phones.

This will probably be the first iPhone that I will purchase since the original 3G.

When the original iPhone came out, I skipped it, because of the No 3rd Party Apps thing, so I waited for the much more mature product which was the 3G. The 3GS struck me as an incremental upgrade, so I passed.

When I started hearing details about the 4, and saw the info about the infamous Gizmodo prototype, I somehow suspected there would be antenna problems (chalk it up to 30+ years as a ham radio operator), so I waited some more, hoping the Verizon rumors would finally come true (I had been a long time user of Pocket PC/Window Mobile phones on Verizon for years before that 3G came into my life--and I definitely thought Verizon's phone service was better than AT&T).

When the 4 finally came out on Verizon, I found myself unable to get excited about buying an eight-month old phone, so I skipped again.

If this rumor is true though, with simultaneous release of iPhone 5 on both carriers (or one model with both radios), I'll have the Holy Grail: I'll have unlimited data on my iPad (grandfathered:D), and a VZW CDMA iPhone (with whatever the lowest level data plan is--don't need more, because iPad goes everywhere with me--so inability to do voice and data simultaneously is a non-issue for me).

Sometimes the best strategy is iWait.....:)

So the phone will be wider for the 4 inch display? Or will the display just be taller.

If taller, then maybe they are adding something to the iOS interface for the added space. Changing the resolution and ratio would require developers to re-design every app.

Probably taller and edge to edge screen.

IMO, that is the frame for the iPhone 4G. I bet it will work with AT&T and Verizon. No iPhone 5 for at least a year boys and girls.

Really? Really? It will be the 5th iPhone released, who gives a crap what the name is? Why are you making stupid posts about semantics? I can only hope you are trying to be a troll and even that is way overplayed.

I still call BS on the 4" screen rumors, Apple will not be able to call it the 'retina' display really if they did. But I do think the screen will increase to 3.7 or 3.8.
And looking at those pictures, it looks like the frame is thinner which is great and it is the same height. The only thing we cannot see is the width which I hope will be the same as the iPhone 4.

4" screen ain't gona cut it. I switched from IP4 to HTC Inspire and now even 4.3" screen seems smallish.

Nah, not this time. Although I think 2012 will bring us our first 64Gb iDevices.

And what do you base that on? In the past we knew the memory modules were too expensive (and brand new). Surely that's no longer an limitation (I haven't checked how the prices compare to July's prices though...and the tragedy in Japan may have changed that as well).

I want a 4.75 inch screen.

But I'll settle for 4.5

4 inch ....Whats the point? Not much difference.

Why not just go 10"?

Just buy an iPad and use Skype. Maybe that will make you happy.

4" is too big for a phone.

I actually use a 3G and just bought a iPhone 4 Verizon for the girlfriend...I am waiting to upgrade, and am starting to consider Android handsets...

Maybe I am getting old, but I do not play games on my phone. I want to make calls (which in the San Francisco Bay Area is difficult w/ an AT&T iPhone), not be breakable/fragile (which is difficult w/ the iPhone 4), use data and voice at the same time (which is difficult with a verizon iPhone 4). Thats it.

Going to an A5 processor benefits me very little.
64GB of storage benefits me very little.
NFC benefits me very little.
Increasing the screen size by 3/10s of an inch benefits me very little.

I suspect I am not in the minority, except for perhaps these forums, where game playing &/or ipod like functionality is importnant.

people aren't waiting for apple, they are just getting android phones if they want a bigger screen

This really doesn't say much. If other smart phones (other than Apple) are all moving to a bigger screen size, then of course the market share will go up because that's what's being offered. Ie...the consumer doesn't have much of a choice when buying an iPhone alternative because they are all coming with larger screen sizes.

I agree, 64GB will be introduced and maybe the 32GB will become the bottom model. Well I can hope.

And I UTTERLY 100000% agree with the screen size comments. People are just stupid and have been taken in by all these massive screen sizes, and YES they are MASSIVE when you consider it's a bloody phone.

Look at tablet, aiming for 7" as the smallest yet some idiot company has already announced a 5" phone, yeah, go on, hold a phone with a 5" screen to your face a look like a total idiot, put it in your pocket and watch that screen crack cause the phones frame is so massive, may as well carry a cover of a hardback book in your pocket!!

I want a 4.75" screen!!

Seriously man, just buy a tablet as suggested, you don't want a mobile phone..

Non-game apps will take advantage of processor speed and memory, so being too old for "games" isn't really a complaint, but more a put down of those that do enjoy games on their mobile devices.

Really? Really? It will be the 5th iPhone released, who gives a crap what the name is?

About a thousand reporters that follow Apple and approximately $10 million of salaried employees at Apple.

Why are you making stupid posts about semantics? I can only hope you are trying to be a troll and even that is way overplayed.

Be happy I'm not charging you a consulting fee. This is like a bar for me. I try new lines and moves here to see if they work. What works is used where it matters.

I'll say it again. "iPhone 4G, a better 4G"

All those people that want a smaller sized screen and think it's just a phone then go buy the htc aria or some phone thats just a phone and not a smartphone. Us smartphone users buy smart phones to look at websites, check email, download new apps, and sometimes play games on them. Now why would you not want at least a 4" screen for doing that stuff? afraid you won't have to scroll as much or maybe be able to have more room to play games on your phone with out your fingers taking up the hole screen? If apple wants to stay in the game then this is what there going to do in the future and if they do it then go buy a razr or aria and use it just for a phone. Now stop complaining about a smartphone getting .5 inches bigger nor is it going to look like a tablet. I love apple products but what ruins apple the most is the fan boys.

An increase to 4" is meh. I've upgraded every summer but I may pass this time around if there aren't huge specs and battery life bumps.

at this point they better put some icecreme on that cake ...
I like the iPhone4 and unless there is some drastic inprovment I will not run out and get it perhaps decide if Santa should bring it but really an gaming 3D screen like the new 3DS would be awesome I think and of course faster and longer battery life OH and unbreakable screen and I need voicecontrol for text while driving so I speak it and they text it and they read the text back to me LOL yeah I need bunch of gadgets and improvments Oh and while at the subject I really would love that thing about paying with your phone what ever it is called

Production

I passed on the iPhone 4 as well. I had the original, passed on the 3G and bought a 3GS. Just didn't see enough compelling reasons to upgrade to 4 from the 3GS at the time but the new wireless hotspot feature would have been enough had it been available. Now that it's here there's no point in making the jump knowing 5 is just around the corner.
