4g lte

wow.. not much optomism for an LTE iphone (5..4g..er). I hope we are all surprised by apple and there is one. The 4g LTE networks are being developed much faster than 3g ever was.

Well now that HSAP+ or whatever is officially "4G" thanks to some political hoopla's, they can call the next iPhone the iPhone 4G and then we'll get a whole new iPhone 6 in 2012. ;)

why are people willing to pay such ridiculous amounts for LTE? my home 15mbps internet service isn't stressed to the point where i need something faster and i stream a lot of netflix and youtube at home on my TV and iPad. why do i need 30mbps and higher speeds on my cell phone that uses less data than my home internet connection?

Lol ... because I can take the uSIM out of the 4G/LTE USB adapter and drop it into my iPhone (if it was 4G/LTE it would be worthwhile). Then, I can have 80Mb/s on phone and at home for less than 35€/mo. Also, the unlocked phone gives me tons of options with prepaid uSIMs.

I know it's too much to hope for a multi-uSIM iPhone ... but that would be nice as well because I travel extensively.

This just makes my decision so much easier, by skipping iPhone 5 and waiting for the next version. Probably it's gonna have A5 chip, just like the ipad2. I am still waiting for my iPhone to make my cappuccino every morning when I wake up, are you listening Apple? :D

Well well, European standards to make a difference! I think if you look at the 2nd picture, (to me) a 30-pin dock connector is present and that little grove? Looks like microUSB to comply with European charging standards. Only time will tell I guess...

where did you pull that from?? I only see pictures of the antenna with a sim card slot

What do they mean by 3Q of 2011? it means it wont come put in june-july??:(

I think Q3-4 probably has been the plan the whole time since the Verizon phone screwed up the cycle, but now they can place partial blame on Japan and it's all roses. ;) The sooner they can get ATT and Verizon on the same hardware and release schedule the better. Mo $$$$$!

July is a part of Q3. So they could release it the first week of July, and it would still be considered Q3. I mean Q3 means they could technically also release it in September, but my point is that don't get scared at the Q3 statement...that could be early July, which would be fine.

Nothing good from a screen size increase

No real evidence. A few claims of a 4" screen here and there from Chinese sources.

arn

There's also no mention of the implications a bigger screen has on resolution. There are two options: 1) Lose the retina display, or 2) Increase the pixel count yet again.

Neither option is good for the end user or for the developer. With #1, you'll lose one of the big selling points of iPhone 4. Yes, the screen would still look pretty good at it's current pixel count, but the screen won't look as crisp as the iPhone 4's. With #2 you force the developers to make yet another version of their apps (i.e. Retina display #2).

And that it will be delivered to you by a topless Megan Fox riding a pink unicorn, right?

Oh, and it has a Blu-ray player built-in. At a contract-free price of $49 - two hundred and twenty dollars less than COGS because Apple thinks MacRumors commentors should get a break.

If they go to a 4" screen, what is going to happen to the retina display? To maintain the 326 ppi, they would have to bump the resolution to 1080x720.

Apple never said that a Retina Display must be 326 ppi. It's just their marketing department saying "higher resolution screen." That's all.

They could keep the pixel count the same, let the resolution drop to about 300 ppi, but they could still call it a Retina Display. Heck, maybe they'll call it Retina Display 2, now even brighter!

Isn't July-September Apple's 4Q? And April - June is their 3Q, which would make this release on schedule with all of their previous releases.

Are you saying that Apple has a September 30th fiscal year end? Even if that is the case, I am pretty sure you are misunderstanding, and this was a general market comment, and the market follows a calendar year, meaning a 3rd quarter of July - September. iPhones have been released in July before if I remember correctly. So no real news there, right?

Actually, there is a solution to this problem: LCD Bezel. You can make it appear to be there when its not, except for movies, if you have the LED backlights performing perfectly. And your precious legacy apps can get scaled down to the original iphone resolution and size without losing a pixel.

Apple's fiscal year ends on the last Saturday of September. All their quarters are thirteen weeks, except in the rare occasion when a quarter is extended to fourteen weeks because of the additional days in the calendar add up.

She's the girl in terminator right? She can't act.

Some better ideas:
AT&T bought T-mobile. Get Catherine Zeta Jones back on contract.

Have Robin Quivers be the new spokesperson: "Four inches is fine"

How can they change the screen size without screwing up the presentation of all the Apps? They don't want to make life harder for the developers. And looking at my iPhone, they can't make the screen wider without making the phone bigger. They aren't going to make the phone bigger. Especially not right after a major form factor change in iPhone 4.

So can we just stop with the screen size predictions? It isn't happening. If you want a bigger screen, get an iPad 2. Alternatively, wait for either the iPad X nano or maybe in a couple of years, different sized iPhones. For now, Apple makes one size fits all and then sells every single one it can make.

I'd like to see iPhone on Sprint. Any reason that can't happen with iPhone 5?

It's exciting to see Apple address their faults. Reading about a metal back is great.

Even better is that they are finally going to use the new engineers they hired to sort out the antenna mess. I read they will include a better antenna in iPhone 5. What a relief that is.

Now we just need some good improvements to bring iOS up to date and the result will be a good iPhone. Very exciting.

I am saying that Apple's fiscal year ends in September. But, I was really responding to this. I was saying that the poster was talking about Apple's fiscal year when saying April-June is 3Q.

Yuuhooo~~ Asia is waiting ;)

This is what I think. That frame is for an RUIM enabled CDMA iPhone 4.

Although I'm not saying the iPhone 5 won't have the same form factor as the 4.

And I don't think it's physically possible to fit a 4" screen in the same dimensions (for those that seems to be assuming that will be the case.)

I like the look of the phones right now and hope they don't do anything to drastic like putting the same shaped back of the iPad2 on this thing. Or all metal. That would look hideous. I also hope the improvements merit the desire for an upgrade. The bigger screen really doesn't wow me. Using the iPad 1 and 2 now, I am almost non-dependent on the iPhone for my media.
