4 inch is too small. We need atleast the .3 inch more to compete with HTC and others.

What comes to iPhone 4 screensize, it is straight from 2007... :( Would be wonderful if Apple could introduce iPhone "nano" and iPhone "pro".

lol we dont have to compete with anyone....have you ever heard an iPhone sayin it was going to be the next XXXX killer....nope....thats what all other smartphones come out trying to do, but as you hopefully know, it has never happened. 4 in screen would work out perfectly. not too big, and a nice bump from previous gens

I don't think it's physically possible to fit a 4" screen in the same dimensions (for those that seems to be assuming that will be the case.)
I tend to agree. Especially since an edge to edge screen wouldn't leave room for the overlapping edges of a case.

I have confidence that Apple will do the right things to bring the iPhone up to the present standards of other 2011 models.

The current models not bad, just small & dated.

I'd like to see a larger display, proper notification system, and return the antenna to the inside of the phone so it works as well as my 3GS did. It's especially weaker on my iPhone 4.

Apple never said that a Retina Display must be 326 ppi. It's just their marketing department saying "higher resolution screen." That's all.

They could keep the pixel count the same, let the resolution drop to about 300 ppi, but they could still call it a Retina Display. Heck, maybe they'll call it Retina Display 2, now even brighter!

Keeping the resolution the same and increasing the screen to 4" would drop it to 288 ppi which drops below that "magical" 300 ppi limit.

The phone will be fine. The real questions have to do with the mergers, the transmitting technologies reliably available in the real world and the cost of actually using the phone.

How can they change the screen size without screwing up the presentation of all the Apps? They don't want to make life harder for the developers. And looking at my iPhone, they can't make the screen wider without making the phone bigger. They aren't going to make the phone bigger. Especially not right after a major form factor change in iPhone 4.

So can we just stop with the screen size predictions? It isn't happening. If you want a bigger screen, get an iPad 2. Alternatively, wait for either the iPad X nano or maybe in a couple of years, different sized iPhones. For now, Apple makes one size fits all and then sells every single one it can make.

I'd like to see iPhone on Sprint. Any reason that can't happen with iPhone 5?

people aren't waiting for apple, they are just getting android phones if they want a bigger screen

exactly why I don't think we will see a screen size update for this phone. Let the retina display have its time, and then overhaul it to support brighter colors for the iPhone 6. No bigger screen just yet.

Wow, so we're looking at:

-A5 Dual Core CPU
-More powerful GPU
-Metal back
-Same form factor
-Bigger screen (3.8" - 4")
-NFC capabilities
-iOS 5

If iOS 5 delivers with a proper notification system, then this iPhone will actually be perfect, minus LTE speed.
This won't be just an incremental upgrade, this will be a big upgrade.

It boggles my mind how some people think the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS upgrade was "minor".
What comes after iPhone 4 guys? iPhone 5.

Disagree...
1. The CPU/GPU is a non-factor. The iPhone 4 is fast as it is.
2. Metal back - who cares. The only improvement would be the elimination of the fragile glass.
3. Same form factor. Phones are getting released monthly now that are STRONGLY competing w/ the iPhone.
4. Bigger screen. Yes that would be an improvement, but if only to 3.8 VERY small improvement.
5. NFC - ????. Where/how would I use this now or in 6-12 months? This is a very new market and I tend to buy most good online now anyway. Restaurants or grocery stores would be the only choices for me really...
6. IOS 5, what does that have to do w/ a new iPhone 5?

The killer addition will be 4G, and if they don't add it will be a bummer. Or a killer redesign, not an incremental design change outlined above....

Interesting...I am hoping the 5 will be a nice step up from the 4, not just a 3gs style upgrade.

Will it ever stop?

In terms of performance the 3GS was probably the biggest step up yet. In terms of style the iPhone 4 [arguably] wins hands down.

If they're putting in the dual-core processor and keeping an iPhone 4 look - then I'm buying. A bigger screen in a similar form factor is just a bonus at that point.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

Verizon iPhone already uses dual chip? Could this possibly mean that the Verizon iPhone could work in Europe?

I personally hope the screen remains the same size. I think it's perfect as is.

Why would you be against a bigger sscreen in the same size phone? Anyhow, I wonder if they keep the glass back. I have never had any issues with it, but an aluminum version would probably be just as good.

No way a bigger screen

There is no way Apple will put a larger screen on the iPhone 5. It's simply because Apple favours standard and they won't ask developers to redo their apps to fit a larger retina screen after they have just done it for the retina iPhone 4 screen. They won't make it bigger, just accept that fact. They didn't make it smaller on the iPad 2 like many people suggested initially. Apple will stick to it's popular screen size, because a larger one can't be built into a unit the same size without changing the aspect ratio. And apple will surely not do that.

I predict iPhone 5 will have:

- up to 64gb memory
- 512 of ram
- Apple A5 chip
- 8 Mp rear cam (or less)
- Same display as iPhone 4
- Similar design; improved antenna while an aluminium back seems unlikely to me.
- GSM/CDMA support

the rest will be the same like on the iPhone 4. Don't get your hopes to high, people, because you will be disappointed... Apple strategically makes their devices only a little bit better at the time, so they always can speak about the next model with great words. Seriously, they won't make the iPhone 5 a lot better than the 4, so they have more to offer on the iPhone 6. E.g. on the iPad one I think a little space between glass and screen was intentionally left there to be able to make the iPad 2 look so much thinner...

Nothing against Apple, I really like them, but this is the way they work...

Everyone keeps on saying the battery life will not last as long but i feel as though apple is going to come out with a retina+super oled display for the new iphone. The iphone can use a 4 inch screen if they would just widen it a bit, like my inspire 4g being wider the phone feels better in the hand. Often you see worse battery life with bigger screen devices because the quality of the screen(super LCD) and android is a battery hog(bloatware, widgets, and sim multitasking).

Another thing if you guys are worried about battery life compare the ipad 2 to the iphone touch. It actually has better battery life because of the more room for the battery. Apples not like most of cell brands to release a phone that only last half of a day, so if its not possible yet then apple won't do it yet but it will have at least a 4" screen one day to keep up with the competition.

So the upgrade will only be A5 and more storage?

That will be a bummer, as Android phones are getting better in huge leaps - including a few really good handsets that will be available this summer on Verizon LTE...
