I've replaced a few iPhone parts to know that this a dock connector (metal bar with screws either side), microphone (under the square gold bit) and connectors for the speaker. Being for the bottom of the new iPhone not the top. Please compare to the iPhone 4 as it has all the same components in a different configuration.

Looks silly. If the iPhone 5 looks anything like that it's going to flop badly.

Without Steve Jobs the iPhone is doomed. This design looks like a real mess, thanks Tim.

I don't know why people are voting these down--funniest comments I've seen on MR in a while. You down-voters need to get a sense of humor. Sheesh.

Anyone gotten a match on that QR code? (I think that's what it is at least.) I doubt it means anything though...

Congratulations, you've just confirmed the Mini-Dock connector.

Edit: But, a bottom headphone jack? Where did I see that again?

It's an iPod Touch part, with a Mini-Dock connector. A Galaxy Note-sized iPod Touch = The rumored 5" iPad?

Comparison of iPhone 4S and iPhone 5' Headphone Jack and Earpiece Component.
If this is genuine then the new iPhone won't be wider, no 4" screen?

Edit : Actually now I think of it, means nothing since both pictures are most likely not taken from the same distance.

Or This↓↓↓↓

Bet you got tied into a 3-year contract though, would you be dishing the $650 for the next iPhone?

I bought an iPhone 4S on day of launch, due to my dying iPhone 3G. Got to say, it's a giant leap, but i was disappointed as I should have just bought the 4.
However, the next iPhone looks like a major update, so i'll definitely be buying it.

I predict another October release for the next iPhone, and I believe Apple will stick to this release cycle for the next while until they launch another significant and high grossing product.. iTV maybe?

i agree, its a safe bet that OCT will be launch month, june is too soon. theres no way they have started making the new phone for a june/WWDC launch. its too early to see it this side of Q3.
we haven't had a iOS keynote preview, so don't be expecting a iPhone in june or anytime soon.

its too soon to be making remarks about form factor with just three part leaks,
best to save your rants till we get a few more so we can put things together

Whether or not the new iPhone is released in June or October, I'll be getting it as my contract for my iPhone 4 goes up on June 22nd.
(

Same here. Next gen iPhone + iO6 - any competitive products I want = much to look forward to.

Can't wait!

Could hold the camera.

I don't think the release date will change from last year. Tim Cook made his reputation at Apple streamlining the inventory and logistics and the new iPad launch demonstrated that they could just about match demand and supply if they delayed launch when the ipad was ready and booked up all the air freight capacity.

October is a good month to launch as by then all the mac range should have been updated and their transport and logistics demands diminishing. Without the iPod doing as well as it once did, the October period is free for a large launch without compromising supply of other products to the main markets.

So while the new iPhone may already be ramping up production, they won't release until later in the year to allow a decent level of stock to be created. The early models can then be shipped by sea and those manufactured closer to launch shipped by air.

I think that given the "small" changes the iPhone 4 and 4S had it shouldn't take a whole extra year to create and produce a new one, I'm very optimistic and pretty sure the new iPhone will be released by the end of June.

If you're right about that, if the iPhone launch is getting earlier in the year, the iPad launches seem to be getting later, I wonder if Apple are planning to eventually merge the two into a huge iOS event, much like they used to do at WWDC where they would update several product lines at once.

Wasn't the shift in the iPhone launch date done in order to cover off the decline in iPod sales...
Q1 iPad Q2 MBP Q3 iPhone...

Said it more succinctly than I did!

Logistically this would be difficult. One of the problems as you get more successful. The scale of iPhone and iPad sales is such that you'd end up with two constrained launches with both products competing with each other for shipping capacity.

In the unlikely event that Apple start building products in the US again, they might be able to get around logistics constraints to some extent.

The other aspect is their earnings. They like to have a product releasing every quarter so that the earnings are spread over the year. Not to mention the problem that if they launch all products together, they only get a couple of weeeks of attention - multiple launches mean they get pictures of queues at their stores at least twice per year.
