It's much better to have the 'business' end of the phone all on one side: the on-off switch, earplug and volume controls near the top or bottom.

With the earphone jack on the bottom it's split up. Not good for those that like flip cases. Nor slip pouches like the Sena ultraslim

This is the only thing I dislike about the design of the iPhone 5. Absolutely hate having the jack on the bottom. For one, my bicycle mount most likely won't work anymore. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I hope like hell they go back to the top after this iteration.

Firstly, I'd like to say that in the two years I had my iPhone 4, I plugged into the headphone jack once: the day I got it. I never used the headphones. It hangs awkwardly from the top if you've got them in your ears and you're trying to text/whatever from your phone and the cord gets in the way.

I prefer it on the bottom for pocket use and so the cord isn't in the way if I'm using my phone while headphones plugged in.

I'm going to wait to pass judgement on where the headphone jack should be. As it stands right now, it seems to make better sense to have it at the top. Reason being is that when you sit the phone down in situations like I do when i'm on the treadmill, i'll now have to have the phone upside down, this doesn't make very much sense to me from a usability standpoint.

But like I said i'll wait to pass judgement. there is one thing Apple could do that would render my point above invalid, and that would be to make it so that when you turn the phone upside down, the screen rotates to the proper orientation while on the home screen. The iPad does this, so why not the iPhone? If they have done this, then I don't see the headphone jack being on the bottom much of an issue, if the screen doesn't rotate while on the home screen, then for me it's an issue and I consider it a design flaw.
