And what exactly do you plan to run on that extra horsepower? What effect does it have on battery power.

Congratulations on being caught up with the sheep in the new CPU clock speed race.

WHAT? Can't I send texts twice as fast? Check my Facebook page more often with a dual core?

 :D

Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.

and... and... 4G.

and... widgets.

Well, the fake 4G carriers are using is faster than the 3G Apple supports, so that's an ok argument.

Apple is pretty evil, but all multibillion dollar corporations are. You don't get rich by being nice. Steve jobs also seems like a jerk in all of those little e-mails he sends out to various people.

Widgets are cool, the iPhone needs an option for them!

You forgot the "Android is open and iOS is closed!!" fanboy argument :(, that's the only one that doesn't really make much sense.

iPhone 4 is at least one year ahead of the competition, and several years ahead when comparing HW quality / build quality. Even with dual core processors the Android UI speed compares unfavorably to pre-3GS iPhone. The Android UI itself is garbage compared to IOS 4.

It's perfectly fine to hold off a release of iPhone 4 for a few months. The competition is not catching up, not even close. The ONLY problem with delay is that there is some perception that iPhone 4 is an "old phone" even though it's the best on the market. If you find some guy who's been in a coma for the past year and ask him to choose between iPhone 4 and the latest and greatest Android spin there's no doubt which he'd choose. But ask someone who had a pulse and they know iPhone 4 was released almost a year ago. Even though it is clearly the best phone on the market, the perception is that it's old.

Hmmm. I was fully convinced that dethmaShine was being totally sarcastic with his posts. Seemed obvious to me.

But I see that 5 other posters don't think so. Those are some pretty big odds...5/1...am I really right?

Yeah, I still think I am. :p

Edit: 7 now!

I've read the post over again and if that was sarcasm, he's bad at it and should stop. Sarcasm on forums is bad form to begin with, the medium does not convey the emphasis appropriately.

Regardless, there are people that believe EXACTLY what he was extolling and they're sadly the sheep that marketting of the Android manufacturers have captured.

Remember Back to the Mac. Let's gear up some Lion, iMac revision and other Maccentric rumors. Page 2 it or get a new 'iOS Nothing new to see here folks' tab.

Maybe I'll start a blog and call it Risky SuperNova. Then I can predict nonsense and get quoted every other week on MR.

Sounds plausible. I don't know what else Apple can add to its existing iPod line besides small improvements... a few of their recent "revolutions" (buttonless Shuffle, touch-screen nano) have actually been steps backward, imo.

uhhh hellooo????
How about a Mega-Classic which I have been waiting for quite some time now. My 160 G classic has 2 gigs left :( Im running out of space fast--please please, can we throw in one of those nice shiny Toshiba 1.8 drives and bring the Classic up to 220 at the least, and 360 at best?

Enjoy the version of Android that comes on that thing out of the box. With all the HTC bloatware and Android fragmentation you'll be lucky to ever see a software update.

HTC phones get updates & always have done. What is this HTC bloatware you are talking about? If you mean HTC Sense I'll laugh at you a lot. It's a brilliant add-on to Android. In fact, I couldn't imagine Android without it.

September would be a nice time-frame. Since iPhones are mostly unlocked/PAG over here, they'd make a nice gift for Christmas. They could benefit from this particular release (closer to Christmas) by expecting greater sales; thus, they may lower pricing.

unrevoked3 + ROM Manager = Cyanogen CM7 in less than 5 minutes with little to no tech skills.

Aren't we quickly getting to the point where it's all about the software?

Ok, so we know iPhone 5 will get dual core A5....big deal. It'll be nice to have the extra power, but the iPhone 4 now is no slouch.

Added RAM.....yeah, that would be nice....but not going to suddenly sell more phones because it has more RAM :p

Display won't get any better resolution-wise. Doubt they'd go with a larger screen either.

Better cameras....ok.....still, the iPhone 4 cameras are no slouch, and it's not like it will reach the quality of a nice DSLR with those tiny sensors.

Better graphics processing.....sure.....but it's not like it has to drive a 9.7" screen like the iPad.

I'd say Apple is smartly switching into software mode. Kick ass with iOS5, revamp notifications, make some much needed overhauls to the system, and optimize performance for todays devices (iPhone 4, iPad & iPad 2).

Apple is going to stay ahead with software. That's the way Apple is and always has been.

I agree fully. Other than incremental spec bumps that keep up with the industry and dropping component prices and moving into newer and newer radio technologies, what else is there to cram into the hardware? Sure in the future there will be some new “must include” hardware technology, but it doesn’t exist today.

Apple’s competitive edge (with Mac & iDevices) is in the OSes and apps. The only thing I’m clamoring for in iOS 5 is liberating iDevices from iTunes on a PC/Mac. Sure, people can still use iTunes, but it shouldn’t be the only way. iPads especially should be fully independent devices as they’ll increasingly be the only computer for a large demographic…like my mom.

I think that's the case with a lot of phones in the UK, regarding updates. However, State side that's not true. HTC is the best at keeping most their phones up to date, but the carriers really put a strong hold on what one, and when. There are still some phones/carriers running 2.1, with no sign of 2.2 any time soon. Yet 2.3 is out.

I agree; of all the add ons for phones, sense is the best. Moto-Blur and Samsung [not sure what they call theirs?] are no where near as clean or responsive.

These really are the worst rumors and don't belong on the front page.

"iPhone 5 in the works. Will be announced someday." Just put that up as a permalink somewhere.

Just buy what you like, but being all anal about specs is lame. Having the currently superior specs isn't gonna make anyone's penis any bigger, despite what you may think.

Ok, I'm convinced.

Also, comparing a product that hasn't been released yet to a product that hasn't been announced yet is a rather weak argument and makes zero sense.

And what exactly do you plan to run on that extra horsepower? What effect does it have on battery power.

Uh... oh!

I thought people here could understand sarcasm better. I think, it was pretty clear. Never mind.

:(

Yes, can't really comment on non-US stuff. I'm sure overseas that the carriers are better, regarding updates, etc. At least that's what I hear...

No they aren't. Better? Yes, but its the same story altogether. The system and the base is flawed; the carriers just exploited it to the core.

Well, I apologize then. I was just trying to portray (as you said), a typical android fanboy.
The sarcasm was quite clear, but may be not to some. Apologies here.

Well he did have the spec whore thing down and was a pretty convincing Android Fanboy as well.

:D

Yes and why not. A 1.2GHz dual core will be much better than 1GHz dual core. A phone?tablet?PC?calculator?microcontroller? whatever, it will just be better. Nuff said now.

[Never quoted so many people in one post on MR, ever]

The 2 things that convinced me:

1) The use of 'and...and...and' a lot. Stammering: A hallmark of sarcasm.

2) He then responded to one of my comments with a very thoughtful post. Hardly the type of thing and actual Android-Troll would write.

I was pretty sure based on #1 (do people really not know the stammering thing? I guess not!), but #2 was enough to make me certain.

unrevoked3 + ROM Manager = Cyanogen CM7 in less than 5 minutes with little to no tech skills.

My argument, as well as others, is that you shouldn't have to do that. That's the complaint. They should give an option for a "Vanilla" install, and leave it at that. This is the same issue with Windows. You buy a new PC from DELL, HP, or whoever, and it's filled with all this extra stuff. Sure, I can reformat it, and do all that, but why? It's BRAND NEW. I shouldn't have to do anything, except install the apps I want/need, and files.

What a bunch on whining individuals you are.

"this belongs on page 2"

"enough of this, page 2"

Yeah, yeah, all we know now is that it's becoming increasingly clear that the next generation iPhone is scheduled for a September release, end of story

stop whining geez

Apple releases products in predictable time frames. iPhone 5 will be released in June.

Apple has changed their predictability in the past. They're not going to handcuff them self to past release schedules or what talking heads expect. It’s in their (and our) interest for them to release new hardware when it’s ready.
