Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had this issue or knows how I can resolve this..

My iPhone 5, for no apparent reason, just went completely black. There's nothing on the screen, but the phone is still on. When I try to use Siri, etc, I can hear it, but I can't see anything.

When I press the power button, I can see the backlight turn on, but everything still black.

Any suggestions?

yup this is happening to me as well, i don't know what working or not cause i cant see anything on screen. whats happening?

----------

Have you tried resetting it? Hold the power button + home button until it reboots. Once you see the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

See if that helps.

tried that but i don't see the apple logo

Does iTunes recognize your phone when plugging in to your computer? If so, maybe you'll need to restore the phone.

A guy at work had this issue and that was exactly it. We backed up his phone in iTunes but also pulled his photos off by hand in case we needed to do a clean install. And then put it into DFU mode and restored it. Came back right away.

Hopefully that's all this situation would require as well.

What makes you think it's happening to a lot of people?

Probably just some random software glitch. These things happen.

saw a video on youtube about it, i think its something to do with ios 6.0 and later

A YouTube video doesn't mean lots of people are effected. This thread is the first I've heard about it. Pretty sure it's far from a common issue. Software glitches are unfortunate.

anyone got a fix for this?

Many odd occurrences are remedied by doing a Reset (hold Power & Home buttons simultaneously, releasing both when you see the apple on the black screen.) How often is it happening to you? Some glitches are sporadic and some are non-repeaters. Either situation would be a PITA but not necessarily a sign of impending disaster.

Additionally, YouTube videos are no indication of how widespread any situation is. They frequently exaggerate the overall impact and seek to enhance their own importance; they should be taken with a grain of salt.

bringing up the old post but my phone has been doing the exact same thing.. the screen will go black and nothing i do turns it on... I know the phone is still on because I can hear siri and it vibrates when it rings..

I would love to do a hard reset but my problem is my power/lock button doesnt work... now what do I do??

my iPhone 5 screen went black, then grey! Please help

Hello,
If someone can please help, I would appreciate it.

My iPhone 5 screen went black suddenly, my husband said he heard a couple clicks or beeps (I wasn't in the room).
When I pushed the round button, I could hear Siri beeps. My husband called my number and it rang, but no screen activity (all black).

I did a sync on iTunes and downloaded all my photos and erased them. (Earlier that morning I was taking videos and my iphone said the memory was full... I wondered if this contributed to the problem?)

I disconnected it from the laptop and then pushed the top (wake/sleep?) button and round button at the same time and the apple showed up. After that, all I saw was a grey rectangle where the screen is. It didn't reboot!

I tried that a couple more times and all I get is the apple and then a black screen, but no Siri noises. Still no reboot.

I connected it back to my computer to try to reboot from itunes and now, itunes does not recognize it!

As I am writing this post, my iPhone is connected to the computer and shows the apple for a few seconds, and then grey screen for another few secs, back and forth without me pushing any buttons.

What can I do?

Thanks,
iPhone 5 user in Bolivia

Try plugging the iPhone into the wall charger and then hold down the Power and Home buttons at the same time until the apple appears on the screen and then release both buttons at the same time. My son's iPhone 4 appeared to be absolutely dead after a drop to the floor and doing this brought it back to life. Good luck to you.

Same black screen for me

Hi,
Yesterday, around 7p.m. my iPhone also went black. I could hear Siri and receive phone calls but had a black screen. I am not able to turn off my iPhone either. It was not dropped. It just went black. I can't restore because "Find my iPhone is still on it". Is this suddenly happening to a lot of people?

Iphone 5 screen gone blank but still working

Hi,

My Iphone 5 screen had gone blank all of a sudden and was working just fine calls, siri etc. I just pressed the home and power button together for 10 seconds and the phone got rebooted and the problem was resolved. Hope it is helpful. Thanks:)

I have only had this phone for a week and this issue is happening to me a few times a day. The only way I can resolve it is by 'rebooting' it every time, I haven't found a permanent fix yet. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

iphone 5 black scree

Hi guys,

my iPhone 5 screen went black. I tried the reset buttons but nothing works. when I restart it all i see is a tiny light throughout the screen. The phone works, as i receive call, the alarm goes off, etc. I've been trying to back it up but because i have a passcode on it, it does not allow me to do so. I cannot retrieve any photos or video as it simply does not show when I connect it to my desktop. iTunes does recognise it but as i said because of the passcode it does not allow me to back it up.

Does anyone know who to fix this black screen problem and is there anyway to back it up even with the presence of a passcode?

Thnaks
