iPhone 5 Knockoffs Showing Up in China Already

The design of this looks fairly good. The problem is it looks cheap, but that's expected. Wouldn't mind the next iPhone looking like this as of course it'll look far superior.

You should try traveling outside the borders of the US sometime. I'm in Bangkok all week and every electronics stall has fake iPads, fake iPods, iPhone 5, iPhone 5 cases, fake everything. There's no "loophole" it's just not something that is enforced outside of the US. Americans are the most litigious society in the world, and outside the US it's common to see street vendors and even shops all over the mall selling counterfeit merchandise.

I played with their "iPhone 5" knockoff, and for the most part it's crap, just like every other china-model iPhone has been to date... they're laggy and run a simulated java version of iOS. They do have an antennae that pulls out the bottom tho, so u can watch TV on it, hahaha... the only cool thing is it uses a full size SIM, not a crappy-ass microsim... but again if you don't travel outside the US you won't appreciate that as a benefit either.

If Apple wanted to stop it they could. They simply have to bribe the right official in the Chinese communist party. I guarantee you that if the right official is paid off these knock offs will stop in under a day as swarms of PLA soldiers shut down shop after shop and factory.
 
As I posted some time before: all over Asia you can find fake iPhones and copied software, openly displayed in the shops. But where are Apple's lawyers now? Where are the high profile court cases? Because there's where the real hurt lies.

What do you mean comfortable to hold!? Its a phone! Not a pair of shoes.. Every one of them can fit in your palm!

Oh this blasted iphone 4 i cant bare to hold it in my hands any longer, not with its cornered edges that knife into my hand and cause agonizing pain!

Obviously this knock-off crap isn't going to have the posh, expensive screen and the overal quality of finish, but the general implications I think make for quite a nice looking (and ergonomic!) phone.

And then I can finally retire my 3GS to being the kitchen iPod full time ;)

Based on most of the other comments (and voting), it looks like those of us who value ergonomics over cutting edge aesthetics are in the minority my friend. I guess the iPhone is a fashion accessory more than a phone for a lot of people.

on a related note i distinctly remember people on here calling the leaked macbook air design a 'doorwedge that apple would never go for'

then of course when it came out and looked exactly like the 'doorwedge' mockup those same people turned their carts right around and fell over each other in praising 'another great apple design'

I like it! I think it looks fresh and clean and neat. Everyone is saying that they want it to look like the iPhone 4...Well, duh! it does! They are also had a rumors a while ago that the iPhone 4 design has turned soar for Jobs and the upper management. So not so sure that you are going to get one like the iPhone 4.

Have you ever held a current model iPod Touch in one hand like you would hold a phone? Oh yes, it fits in your palm. Is it comfortable? Not unless your idea of 'comfortable' is holding a spatula by the blade, rather than the handle.

And just for the record, I was probably using Apple products while you were still in nappies, so I'm no troll. I just happen to hold Apple to a high standard when it comes to placing function over form. Evidently you are content with whatever happens to fit within your palm.
 
Cool, 64GB for about $100. I wish Apple would offer that for their $749 price tag.

Hard to read but it says in the back "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in USA".

Funny how they only changed China -> USA :)

Are you really sure those were actually the same people? You comment sounds a lot less clever when you figure that maybe it was actually different sets of people making the comments.

Answer: People working in shocking condition for very little money, running home to tell there friends what they've seen at work, who also work in sheds for very little money, who, in turn, get together with other people in little workshops that make very little money, make the gadget to sell for very little money to the biggest population on the planet, whilst the real stuff they make goes out to sell to people with more debt than anywhere else on the planet... Oh they also pay off the authorities/police, who also earn very little money

PS But the phones they make are crap... ;-)

PPS We in the west have nothing to remark upon about 'getting away with it' when we allow our leaders to 'get away' with brazen corruption on a daily basis... At least poverty and horrendous working conditions are better excuses than greed and apathy :eek::mad:
 
I expect it to be more like an iPad 2 design, but I guess without the aluminum back.

Those images are pretty ugly though, I know Apple's product will look much better.
 
Knock-offs before the real one's out... LOL...

Apple probably doesn't even care at this point - hey, free advertising about the new one - whatever it takes to get people to wait and not upgrade to something else earlier... :D

Exactly, it looks like the 5 will have rounded edges like the 3GS. The hard corners of the 4 were not exactly comfortable, it was like holding a Nintendo NES controller...square.

I'm pretty sure my genuine iPhone was put together in China.
