SCREEN SIZE - Im on a Note 2

Fair enough if you want/need that size, but I couldn't IMAGINE carrying something that massive around. I'm not even sure it'd fit in my jeans pocket - and damn sure it wouldn't fit comfortably.

Is that a Galaxy Note in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?

Looks like it's time for a major iOS rewrite to snap the iOS line out of it's doldrums and also to add more value in the iPhone. Axe the 16GB, for one. Apple needs to put some sizzle back in the OS or its marketshare is going to continue to notch down. It looks like its resting on its laurels with all this incrementalism. Isn't that was cost them the PC market back in the the 80s.

The release of iPhone 4S partly helped Samsung achieve that tremendous growth. Think about it, in late 2011, you'd had your iPhone 4 for 18 months already, if you don't understand what does dual core etc. mean, would you want to buy a phone that looks exactly the same and hold it for another 12 months or more?

Many people bought the S2 then S3 just because of this. They couldn't care less about "Android" or "Open", they just wanted a phone that's .. different.

If some people think that Apple's early release of the iPad 4 is a strategic mistake, I think the iPhone 4S is a much bigger one.

I think that the iPhone 5 will gain back some momentum against Samsung but well Samsung has a lot of hardcore religious fans now.

I am a long time apple user but recently went to Samsung for my phone exactly for that reason because it s different. The fact that ios hasn't changed much was the reason after having an iphone for many years. Im loving the larger screen now tho. I mean for basic Functions all top smartphones can do the same. ....... even windows lol. Ios Def is easier for non techies and has less bugs but I don't think that's enough.

Nothing will take me away from osx for my laptop tho

Apple doesn't care so much about # of units. They make such huge profits from a share of the $$$ contracts with the carriers. I'm not sure if Samsung has similar arrangements but they don't have nearly the leverage that Apple does.

Their market share is dropping because the NUMBER (not necessarily, but arguably the quality too) of competitors is going through the roof.

Android smartphones of massively varying qualities (and prices) are flooding the market, so obviously a company who essentially make ONE (premium priced) phone each year's market share is going to drop.

As long as each iPhone Apple release continues to be the fastest selling phone in history, i don't think they'll mind too much about M/S which really is a problem that's tough to deal with, in this sort of market.

I'd love to see UK sales figures, but we only ever seem to see either US or worldwide here at MacRumors.

I say this because (in a totally unscientific just "looking around" sort of way, I'm convinced there are WAY more iPhones than Samsungs over here.

True, it definitely seems like about three or four to one on the morning commute into London.

I have to agree with most of the other posts. Apple makes a really good looking product but iOS is dated. It has looked the same since day one and is just dated!

I agree that iOS doesn't do everything I need it to do!

Yes I agree. Love the hardware of my white iPhone5 but iOS is a disappointment after my Galaxy Nexus. Today I tried to email a PDF (not a link, but the file itself) from dropbox... How complicated can it be? Had to open/download the file in Dropbox, open it in another app: Docstogo, email from docstogo. A proper file system or a folder in which to save temporary files would be so much easier.
Another one: Android has the possibility to share pictures, files, text (or whatever) with basically all other apps on the phone. Every app has a 'share' button. I really miss this on iOS.

Maybe we're just more discerning on this side of the pond. Haha.

In all seriousness though, on a day to day basis, I'd agree with your assessment that it's about 3-4:1... maybe even more, now that I think about it.

I'm on a note 2 right now after having 3.5 inch iphone for a long time and this was my biggest worry but it's not that big, really. You don't notice it in your pocket. Now I pick up my wife's 4s and can't believe how small it seems. But I guess every one is different. Get whatever phone suits your needs.

This exactly.

Samsung sells more phones. That's nice and all but Apple makes way more profits per phone. I'd rather sell less product but make way more total profits and profits per phone any way of the week.

Exactly. I think this is also why they decided to just release the iPad 4. Apple couldn't afford to wait an 18 month span between iPad models if they wanted to change to a Holiday release schedule (like they did with the iPhone 4S). Apple lost a lot of smartphone ground waiting to release the iPhone 4S. I think they realized this and decided to just wait 7 months between the iPad 3 and iPad 4.

it's the OS that makes the iPhone not as good. Look at the physical side of the phones and the iPhone rips the samsung to shreds. Apple's iOS needs a complete revamp. They change the designs in all their products physically, why never update the design of iOS? It is extinct.

Exactly this.

I am tired of BMW's. They still have four wheels. My car in 2002 had four wheels. And steering wheels; don't get me started on steering wheels.

Depends which city you live in mate. Judging by your name I presume that you are an Everton fan and live in Liverpool?

In Birmingham, there seems to be more android phones around, (Samsung and HTC) - this is a general observation

All info on homescreen.

Folders for every kind of documents you need and want.

Right but the Android OS has a higher marketshare than iOS. Apple does care about that b/c it affects what platform devs develop for first. Also a lot of the new iPhone sales are people upgrading old iPhones. Its not new customers. That's also a problem. Plus Apple wants the bragging rights, I'm sure.

Simples. What you need is a bike!
