iPhone 5 Launching in Second Week of September? iPad 3 Later?

I find it hard to believe that Apple would release another iPad this year, considering the amount of people who bought the second one. These are expensive, premium devices. It's not a good idea to alienate your customers by making their purchase obsolete immediately. I can't really think of any another time where Apple has released a product and then released an entirely new version of it so quickly.

iMac G5 update was released 3 months before Intel-based iMac came out.

This is business and frankly has nothing to do with your rose colored glasses view.

There's zero chance they'll release the iPad 3 this year.
I have no idea what Apple is up to but there are many sound reasons for an iPad update along with the rest of the iOS line up.
Reason 1) At the iPad 2 keynote, Schiller said something to the extent of 2011 being the year of the iPad 2.
And he was right! This has very much been the year of the iPad 2, it has been an extreme success. However nothing about that statement says there won't be new IOS devices in 2011.

Every time I see a posting like this I have to wonder about the persons command of English. It is like people are either ignorant or predisposed to twist the words of others to satisfy their own insecurity.
Reason 2) They are still selling a massive amount of iPad 2's. There is absolutely no need for them to release another so soon. It doesn't make financial sense.
Considering that Apple has a history of letting markets slip away from them it actually might make investors feel a bit better when they see Apple being aggressive.
And for all those iPad HD rumors, how long did it take for Apple to segment the iPod line? If I remember right, the iPod mini came out at the same time as the fourth generation iPod. They still haven't segmented the iPhone line (not counting selling the year-old models along with the new models). Why would they segment the iPad line after the second generation device? It doesn't make any sense.

Why are you obsessed with segments? Honestly I can see potential for and good reason for Apple to aggressively upgrade the entire iOS product lineup. By upgrade I mean revise old models and ADD NEW FORM FACTORS. Apple has had tremendous success with iOS and can have even more success filling holes in the lineup.

I hope they release a new iPad this fall, just so I can see my cousin froth at the mouth for one. He told me he doesn't care what new features the new models have, he just wants one to have one which I think is ******* but hey, that's the kind of customer Apple likes best and seems to cater to the most.

Obviously you don't get it, frankly you don't understand English.

I'm really getting very tired of this stupidity, Jobs said this was the year if iPad2, he did not say nor imply that other iPads would not come out this year. The statement was more a prediction of iPads great success, it said nothing about marketing plans for other iOS devices.
With every iPad 2 made being sold, what reason is there for another iPad this year?
That is like asking Ford why they come out with a new truck every year.

Beyond that you have heard of competition haven't you.
I just don't understand it. If people say the "retina display", why wouldn't they use that as the headlining feature in the iPad the next year?
1. Maybe they have other features for that machine such as 4G.
2. More likely they want to sync up iPad releases with the rest of the iOS devices. This is possibly a big component here as it eliminates special iOS releases.
There seems no reason to piss people off with a new iPad when it could just as well come next year. Steve was also pretty clear when he said "This is the year of iPad 2"

I just don't get it

Obviously you don't get it. I suggest re-reading steves statement until you do. It might pay for you to buy a dictionary and go through the statement word by word. After doing that tell us how you managed to twist the statement "This is the year of iPad2" into a statement that implies no new iOS devices this year. In any event "I just don't get it" how is it that you pull this foolish meaning out of a statement that has nothing to do with other iOS devices? By the way no I'm not being mean, I honestly want to know what is up here.

It is no different than somebody saying this is the year of Halley's comet. Maybe it is maybe it isn't but the statement does not imply that other comets won't appear.

I'm willing to bet you voted for Obama.

Which says absolutely nothing about iPad3

Frankly I don't care if iPad3 comes out this year, buying one just isn't in the cards. What I have a big problem with is this foolishness of referencing a Steve Jobs statement that says absolutely nothing about iPad 3 or other iOS devices. It is simply unreasonable to twist the meaning of the statement into an indication that there will be no new iPads this year.

I challenge anybody to come up with a reasonable way of decoding that statement into an indicator of no iPad3 this year. You can't because there is nothing inn the statement that can be reasonably interpreted that way.

I assume you mean Thanksgiving 2012 or later. Cause you know what Jobs said. And anyone would be foolish to think otherwise. But I'll repeat it cause we get so many iPad 3 in 2011 rumours. And so many people still think an iPad in 2011 is actually possible. It's not. Cause Jobs said so.

Why would they come out with a new iPad when its still hard to get an iPad 2. Almost all the stores I've been to are out.

cuz they dont like to sit on a heap of techno trash ?

Here in Germany you can have iPad 2 in a 3 days time period, and as much you want. :)

Apple is smart, they never produce more than the market can take and keep the price in their range.

Today I was looking at an iPad 2 (haven't one myself) and the display is ..... just great.
So what more folks could want at the moment.

For the iPhone 5 - count me in if it gets a bigger display.

... consuming while thinking about the kids of somalia a.s.o.

:(

On some counts here you are wrong.

Your missing my point ENTIRELY! Were not talking about developers not catering for the future iPad. Were talking about them not catering for a bizarre SKU resolution iPad that would have a tiny audience due to its price (assuming the iPad 2 Premium thing was true ~ which it is not)
If developers follow Apples guidelines they will have little in the way of problems. You need to remember iOS is resolution independent.
If they released iPad 2 HD in the fall - and it had some bizarre resolution that was above 1024 x 768 but way below Retina 2048 x 1536 = it would be a major pain in the ar5e for developers.
Maybe for some developers but certainly not all of them. There are good reasons to pixel double though. In the case of iPad the screen really isn't that bad, to get a noticeable improvement you might as well pixel double.

In any event I really dont want to hear about developers whining. I'm pretty much convinced that Apple will have future iOS devices with different screen sizes today. You know what, any developer worth his salt will be all over those devices to see how he can best support his software on them. They will grumble all the way to the bank.
Especially if the iPad 3 does bump up to 2048 x 1536 Retina in all it's SKU's. Which all signs seem to point towards.
That seems like the likely rout in the future, possibly this year. However the point remains that developers will have to support devices with other resolutions in the future.
You would have this one overpriced iPad 2 model with a convoluted resolution that is neither here nor there. Developers are hardly likely to mess about developing for one SKU that in only a matter of 12-16 weeks later was totally superseded by the higher Retina display iPad 3 models.
You make a false assumption here that it would be a lot of work for developers. Some would have a lot of work to do but others would have none. The point is what screen Apple eventually goes with has nothing to do with developers.
Why should they spend money and time developing for an SKU that is out of date before they even finish updating their app, only to have to start updating it all over again because the iPad 3 has bumped up to Retina res.

It just defy's logic to think that it's going to happen. If Apple bumps resolution on any of the iPad's it will do so to the same resolution across the board, not some arbitrary resolution simply to make it look like its got a better resolution than some android tablet in time for the holidays.

I suspect that when Apple dies increase the resolution on iPad they will double it. I just don't buy this idea that developers come into the equation.

"iPhone 5 Launching in Second Week of September? iPad 3 Later?"

Well, is it or isn't it?
This is a news discussion section, right? Not a "Well, it might be? Lets speculate on it anyway, and ask our readers, because we don't have the faintest idea either" section.

These news postings do get tiresome.. I mean how would you feel if you went to BBC or CNN and they had "Nuclear bomb goes off in Afghanistan?"
Well DUH! Don't ask us! Did it or didn't it!??

Apple can't even get the damn iPhone 5 out on time and people think they're going to release TWO iPads in the same year. Please.

If there isn't a major re design for the iPhone 5, then i could handle holding onto my 4 for a little while longer (I'm about to convert mine to a white).

As for the iPad, I just bought mine! Again, if no update interests me then I'll be glad to hold onto the iPad 2 I just bought. But since I can be materialistic at times, I could probably just sell it on Craigslist and buy the newer model. Gotta love Apple's resale value!
