A6 doesn't tell us anything, it's just an Apple marketing term.

I'd be surprised if they called it that and it wasn't quad core, though.

Take my money

:apple:

Darn, I'm stuck in a meeting during the announcement and won't be out until an hour afterward. I hope for my sake that there are still some left by then.

I think it will be A6 just so they can claim it is new. I don't think it will be quad core, it will just be a higher clocked dual core A5 on the 32nm process with an improved GPU.

My theory is they cant say it uses the A5 because then everyone will claim it's the same as 4S. But they cant use 5X because that would be overpowered on the GPU front, hence it will be named A6.

I'm hoping it's an ARM Cortex A15 based SoC.

And what will you do with it once you have it. ;)

No seriously, what is going to be the advantage in the phone sized device? Personally I'd rather see more RAM smushed in then double the cores.

It's not a deal-breaker for me, but it's just pushing the envelope further. Maybe a quad-core will unlock new app possibilities and pave the way for a radically more powerful iOS 7?

I too would like to see them double down (see what I did there?) on RAM rather than on cores.

Tim Cook - get control over your supply chain. The amount and quality of the leaks is just unfuc**** real

I'm sure he has control of it.

The thing is with Tim, is that he ramped up the production of the last iPad massively over previous years with Steve. He'll have done the same with the iPhone.

Significantly more parts mean significantly increased chances of there being leaks. But why would he care? The amount they're producing just lines Apple's pockets with gold to a far greater extent.

Lawd...why...just why...are you doing this to us...I want the iPhone 5 on FRIDAY...not next Friday.:apple: Its going to be the longest 9 days ever.
