This could just be a prototype that they made before the other one. "I like it like this but the two-toneback is nicer"

Now this could be a screen protector making it look like this since it's all dull like an anti glare screen protector looks, but....Look at the first 2 photos of the front screen. If you look in the lower right corner where the screen meets the edge, it looks a little off. Like if you were photoshopping and weren't exact on the 90 degrees for the corner. Even up a little from the corner along the right side is a little uneven. Not trying to burst bubbles, just saying that it looked a little weird...Again, could be a screen protector

Just can't deny the amount of 2 tone iPhone leaks we've had.
This 'leak' just contradicts about 3-4 months worth of leaks.

I don't think it contradicts anything. All over the web page and throughout the video the words prototype are everywhere. I believe it to be a real Apple prototype. The final version may not look like this. Plus, different prototypes are built to test different things. We don't know what the goal of this prototype was? ie. what was it testing?

So basically the same but without the two tone, making it even more similar to the iPhone 4/4S. Why are the same people hoping for a more radical redesign more inclined to believe this leak? And all other leaks are hoaxes just because it lacks the two tone and everything else is the same?

Every time I see more convincing leaks such as this, I get convinced that this may be the next iPhone 5, but I still need to stand ground that it will be different. As many have pointed out, it's merely an elongated 4S.

It's still nice for those willing to upgrade or are up for renewal, but if this is the next iPhone, I may just keep and hold onto my 4S.

I'm excited to see if this is actually showcased at the event. If so, so much for Apple's tight security. I expect it won't be so difficult to find leaks in the future regarding reiterations of any of Apple's products.

FFS, that rumored screen looks ******. I hope Apple would really mind the aspect ratio. It really needs a little bit more width, not skinny look like that.

disappointing if that's the real one, I guess ill just stick to what I have now and why is a headphone jack on the bottom of the phone?:D

Why is the Apple logo and the writing on the back so much darker than the writing on the 4S? It looks almost gold/brown-ish

The phone in these pics looks exactly the same thickness as the 4 - was really hoping for a thinner phone considering they've got the room in the extra height they've added on.

The Gizmodo iPhone 4 prototype had no screws on either side of the 30-pin port just like this one. However this one doesn't have any Xs on the backplate like most other iPhone prototypes do. It seems likely that this iPhone was made by Apple at some point in the development process, whether it ends up being the final version is anyone's guess. The Gizmodo iPhone 4 ended up being almost identical to the final version though.

edit: The Vietnamese iPhone 4 prototype didn't have screws but the Gizmodo iPhone 4 did.

Could just be an early prototype case made to fit the existing iPhone 4 innards. We've seen plenty of leaks indicating that it's thinner.

what doesn't look genuine is that the bottom bezel with the home button is pretty big, as big as the current phone which in other leaks was just big enough to fit the home button.

2nd thing is side by side it looks narrower than the current gen which it apparently isn't.

3rd the bottom bezel and top bezel are not equal.

Yeah - the 'thinner design' iPhone 5 has been seen in too many leaks not to be true now.

However, I also like the two-tone back on the iPhone 5, and if this helps prevent Antennagate 2 then all the better :D

This looks fake as hell to me. I think the two tone backing is what we will see on Sept 12th.

I could see this being the evolution of the two-toned parts we've been seeing, as in the final model that went into production. Either that or it's the other way around. Definitely excited for the keynote!

interestingly its not a 2 tone back like we,ve been seeing.

I was thinking the back was covered by something to disguise it as a 4/4S if used in public.

From 9to5mac:

The lack of visible cuts in the antenna band and especially the full metal back design (without glass caps on the top and bottom) likely point to this “prototype” just being another elaborate hoax.

Don't forget, Steve Jobs and Ive both INSISTED on simplicity and unity. Why do you think all their products have either one finish, unibody... etc. Why would they release a two toned design thats similar to the original iPhone 2G when they have improved on the iPhone model year after year? To me, the information presented above is very plausible to this leak. I can see why they would change the back to alluminum instead of glass. Maybe that's what this is; Alluminum dyed black with a matte finish.

I hope you realize this "prototype" is in fact fake.

Firstly, this still looks like a Unibody design (even more so than the two-tone design we have seen earlier) -- making it very different from the glass back/front iPhone 4 and 4S designs. Honestly, I like this one-tone metal back design a lot better, but the two-tone looks pretty slick also. Or maybe Apple will launch something completely different?

I think you are just hoping this is real because you like it. They can't currently go with a backing that is completely aluminum for reasons related to connectivity to wi-fi and cellular networks. The iPhone needs RF windows and Apple will most likely go with glass in the shape and form of slivers if you will at the top and bottom. Dude, this is fake. The two tone backing that has leaked for months now in various places is what we are getting.

Is it possible all of these "iPhone 5" leaks are all hoaxes and are just early prototypes of the iphone 4? Or early prototypes of the 5? Imagine the new iphone will be wider instead of longer? I just dont understand why they would only make it taller and have a smaller dock connector for a NEW GENERATION iphone. All of these alleged iphone 5 leaks looks just like the iphone 4. It's actually a little dissapointing.

While I agree with you, they will likely convince the masses that an iPhone 4SL is somehow better than a slightly wider screen. Others will claim BS about being able to use the phone one-handed. These people will ignore the obvious fact that because the screen dimension is changing at ALL that it throws that argument out the window. i.e., how does an increase in length allow you to still use the phone one-handed but yet supposedly a slight increase in width would somehow be impossible to use one-handed...?

Sorry, Apple isn't here to please everyone because that's impossible. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If a larger display, HD front camera, better back camera, chassis thinner than the GS3, 4G LTE, and whatever else is new isn't enough for you, get an Android device. I for one wouldn't want a completely redesigned phone every year. If ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's highly likely we'll be seeing exactly what all the leaks are showing in a week. Most people thinking like you will end up seeing the device, loving it, and purchasing one anyway.

A 4-inch device can still be used one-handed with no problem. It's the larger devices past around 4.3 inches where it cannot be used COMFORTABLY one-handed.
