iPhone 5 has been scheduled to be released by the end of August. The decision was made when Verizon iPhone went into mass production last year.

Sneaky post there. Going to be a little longer due to parts constraints. A 4 week delay from 8-24-11 could be seen as a "Fall" launch. ;)

Don't know. Don't care. I have an iPhone 4.

Aww damn it...
That means since you don't care, no one else can or will either.

(My point... for those too dense to understand... is that no one cares if any single one of you don't care... MacRumors puts the information out there for those who do!)

My sources told me that they are not continuing the iPhone and that Apple are instead moving into the medical field and are going to bring to market the iPacemaker.
It's revolutionary in that it's made to last a lifetime and has a fruit with a bite out of it stamped into the side. Steve Jobs has been heard as calling it 'Gorgeous'

For the 3G owners....There is Hope

I was in the same boat with my 3G... needed an upgrade and my contract was up in Feb. I was waiting for the 5 release this summer. Well my 3G had other ideas...it died 2 weeks ago. But there is HOPE:

I got my hands on "loaner" 3G (brothers old 16GB 3G). I charged the phone, and after finding out from AT&T (on-line representative chat) I took the "loaner" phone (16 GB 3G) and the they activated for free. Of course, I tried on my on before and it said I had to activate a new line...

My suggestion: Try to get your hands on a 3GS or even 3G that somebody isn't using... Take it in to AT&T and ask them to activate under your number with your SIM (because your phone is dead)... that is, if you "Really" want to wait for the newest version coming out this SummerFallWinterNextYearSomeDay. My "newer" 3G is fine and works great after restore, and new software update.

This is my Hope...sorry to disappoint- This won't help everybody (those who have no access to these phones) but for those like me, it will make another couple months much more bearable before the "newest" iPhone comes out.

word from their sources that the iPhone 5 will not launch in June.Previous reports have suggested a Fall or even later product release.

Rumors in some quarters are very certain it will launch June 2012 :)

They could have a 4.5" 1280 x 720 screen without changing the dimensions if they went all the way to the edge (widthwise). I guess they won't—that's not double the current resolution, and apparently phones can't adjust like every computer does?
Your eyes can easily adjust to different text (or icon) sizes, as can your mouse or trackpad movement translater (moving your mouse x mm causes the cursor to move y mm). Which is what is needed if you use a display with a different dpi.
Adjusting the size of your fingers when the display dpi changes is a bit more difficult. Naturally, all applications could adjust their touch target sizes with changing dpi, but no application has been written so far with this so far theoretical change in mind. And the OS does not offer a built-in way to link your touch target size to the dpi.
And on top of that, most of the artwork/chrome (icons, borders, hairlines) is currently created as pixel-defined artwork. If you create a hairline that is one pixel thin and then increase the dpi by a non-scalar factor, eg, 1.5x, the developer has the choice to stay at one pixel, increase to two pixels or one pixel plus one semi-transparent, and neither of these solutions will look the same as the original.

perhaps MR should be posting the "rumor record" for each of these random apple blogs. sure, i can trust macrumors, tuaw or macworld, but The Loop?

what is their iPhone release date rumor record?

Why don't they make some kind of chart and put everything they know about the iPhone 5 on it, linking to various sources, and let us make our own mind up? It's less crazy than putting up random page 1 articles saying "iPhone 5 expected to come out [insert time of year]!!"

haha

Apple better make sure they have the iPhone 5 made correctly to be in current competition due to the fact that LG has a glasses free 3D phone.

3D is a barely developing technology. and I WILL NOT carry around glasses to look at 3D movies on my phone. notice brand new 3D tv's come out everyday that are better than yesterdays?? Apple won't jump on the 3D train until it is PERFECTED. :D

AT&T were able to activate your 'loaner' iPhone-without questions? How long have you've been with AT&T? I'm interested as my 3G s died a few days ago. If that is the case I'm tempted of buying a used iPhone 4.

I'm pissed because I'm on Verizon without an iPhone waiting for 5 to come out a few months after 4. Now I have to wait till the damn fall to get it?

Perhaps MR should be a bit more selective on what rumours it reports.

I own an iPhone 3G as well, and i plan on waiting this one out until the iPhone 5. No point getting an iPhone 4 now, but if i had gotten one 6 months ago then it would've been a different question.
Let' wait for WWDC, if not then the latest we'll see an iPhone is during the September Media Event, because Apple can't launch the new iPod Touch without launching the iPhone 5 before it.

It would make sense to launch the iphone 5 in september along with the new ipod range and possible an ipad 2.5/3 that way they would have all the iOS devices coming out at them same time. So they could make 1 specific to the lastest hardware all at once.

doubt they would do this, it would make more sense, from a marketing point to stagnate hardware release, so the fan boys (like me :D) can buy for e.g IP5, then ipad 3, etc

if all the hardware is released simultaneously, ppl will be less inclined to buy multiple hardware, firstly due to outright cost, and secondly time and energy required to set-up and optimise idevice

You really think that Verizon will release an iPhone 5 four months after they released the iPhone 4? That'll never happen!

Tough crowd here.

"Apple sucks. It's iPhone and iPod 24/7. Mac gets now Love. Blah, blah blah."

"What! No iPhone Summer '11. An Apple organized developers conference focusing on Mac OS X. I'm pissed."

There are the iPhone/iPad folks here that don't own Macs, However I for one would love some LION on my new MacBook Pro!

I was in the same position as you. I just bought the 4, didn't feel like waiting another 6 months  The 5 is most likely going to be a minor upgrade from the 4. I couldn't be happier.
